QCA recently closed out the public informationservices for the State Road 434 widening project

in the city of Oviedo, one of the fastest growing com-munities in Central Florida. The project took an over-burdened, two-lane rural road and turned it into a six-lane urban corridor featuring medians for added safety,end-to-end sidewalks, bus bays, landscaping and a newtraffic signal at Palm Valley Drive. This high profileproject saw interest from thousands of residents wholive along the corridor, City of Oviedo and SeminoleCounty officials, the University of Central Florida (the

project started at their Centaurus Drive entrance), studentapartment complexes, hundreds of businesses and morethan 40,000 motorists per day. The project, which beganJune 3, 2002, received final acceptance from theFlorida Department of Transportation on Feb. 18, 2005.The contract time was extended due to unusually wetand severe weather and utility conflicts. Although theconstruction was a challenge for the community, numerous positive comments were received uponcompletion of the improvements. Kudos to MaryBrooks and her staff on a job well done!
