1 These are the commands, decrees andlaws the LORD your God directed me toteach you to observe in the land thatyou are crossing the Jordan to possess,2 so that you, your children and theirchildren after them may fear the LORDyour God as long as you live…
4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, theLORD is one.5 Love the LORD your God with all yourheart and with all your soul and withall your strength.
6These commandments that I give youtoday are to be on your hearts.
7 Impress them on your children. Talkabout them when you sit at home andwhen you walk along the road, whenyou lie down and when you get up.
8 Tie them as symbols on your hands andbind them on your foreheads.
9 Write them on the doorframes of yourhouses and on your gates.
6 Train a child in the way he should go,and when he is old he will not turnfrom it.
9 Honor the Lord with your wealth, withthe first fruits of all your crops;
10 then your barns will be filled tooverflowing, and your vats will brimover with new wine.
20 Walk with the wise and become wise,for a companion of fools suffers harm.
24 Put away perversity from your mouth;keep corrupt talk far from your lips.
6 Go to the ant, you sluggard; considerits ways and be wise!
7 It has no commander, no overseer orruler,
8 yet it stores its provisions in summerand gathers its food at harvest.
7 for he is the kind of person who isalways thinking about the cost. “Eat anddrink,” He says to you, but his heart isnot with you.
23 Carefully guard your thoughtsbecause they are the source of true life.
25 A generous person will prosper;whoever refreshes others will berefreshed.
7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning ofknowledge, but fools despise wisdomand discipline.
