Hello fellow Rebels.
The winter is starting to set in. The leaves are starting to
fall and a chill is in the air, all signs of the seasons
changing. As fall sets in and the days get shorter, the ‘ol
hot rod gets put away for the year and put in hibernation
till spring time. As we wind down the days into fall we
also bring in the holiday times.
With the holidays just around the corner, please take a
moment to give thanks for all we have as many have
nothing. We gave our annual donations to Food Bank,
The City Mission, Southeast Nebraska Cancer Founda-
tion, The Center for People In Need and Sewing For Ba-
bies. With the money that we earned this year we were
able to continue giving back to the community as we
have in the past. Thanks to everyone that helped out and
the events that allow us to earn money to continue to do
what the Rebels are known to do. Give back and pro-
mote fellowship among people.
We had our club Halloween party this last weekend and
had a great time. Lots of good food and fun was had by
all that attended. Had some great costumes show up to
add to the fun. I would like to thank everyone that
helped put on the Halloween party to make it a success.
Good fun, good food and great people. What more could
you ask for.
This is a slow time of year for the club and activities. If
you would like to host an event or garage scene or just
have an idea for one, please get with Scott or let one of
the board members know so we can try to get it done.
As usual, please be safe and have a happy holiday sea-
son. Give thanks and be thankful for all we have and
will have.
I'll see you on the streets.

THIS MONTH WE HIGHLIGHT OUR REBELS MEMBER ’ S
Bruce & Sheryl Wright
by Jim Jensen

Member at Large
Bruce & Sheryl's 1955 Chevy is Nicknamed "The Shoe Box"
It was on a Tuesday in August of 2002 at Culver's, 14th and Old Cheney. We
noticed the car for sale. So we looked the car over and really liked what we
saw, especially the 350 ZZ4 engine with lots of chrome. We went home and didn't
really talk about it until Sunday and that is when we decided to buy it.
Our first trip in it was to Nebraska City and what a trip that was. When we got to
Nebraska City, we were almost out of gas. We filled up, did our thing at the Car
Show and Apple Jack Festival and then drove back to Lincoln, were we had to fill up
again and that's when we decided we needed to make some changes.
The transmission was first. We replaced the 350 Turbo for a 700R4 and that made big
difference in gas mileage. From there we had a lot of other changes made. The car
was rewired, we down sized the carburetor, put on a chrome intake manifold, disk
brakes on all four wheels, had a gas sending unit installed and front and rear sway
bars, shocks, new roller lifters and many more small items, including new glass for
the door windows. Most of the main work was done by Bill Masters and Dave O'Melia,
the transmission was done by Nebraska Transmission and
some of the brake work was done by Virgil Meints, and
Alan Christman installed our window glass.
We really enjoy cruising in this car and plan to keep it
for a long time.
Big thanks to the Wright’s and Francisco’s for hosting the
Fall Poker Fun Run Sunday! The day was beautiful, it was
fun and we all look forward to when we can do it again!
We left from Culvers at 14th & Old Cheney and headed to
Denton, Sprague, Hallam, and Roca, then finished at
Mulligans in Lincoln to determine high, low and drawing
winners.
Last weekend club members and their families dressed in
a great variety of costumes for the annual Halloween party
hosted by the Rebels with Sandy Francisco and Sheryl
Wright as aficionados. It was great fun!
A huge thank you to all who dared to join in on the fun,
especially those who made the effort to dress up and
make it such a great party! An even bigger thank you
goes out to Sandy and Sheryl who got railroaded into
coordinating the event (they do such a great job!) also to
their volunteers for all the work they did to make it fun by
decorating, cleaning up, working with kids activities, judg-
ing and etc. We really appreciated the yummy soup en-
tries too!
We might have to get soup recipes from Jody White, Mike
Brown, Pat Schwab, Kathy Andrews and Jim McNeil! What
a nice variety we had, thanks again for bringing them. Con-
grats to Jody for winning first place.
Larry Souverin dressed up as Kiss and took home the
Men’s trophy. Speaking of Souverin’s, their grandson,
Ian as a ninja and granddaughter Kara as Princess Leia,
took home the boys and girls awards for their
costumes as well! It wasn’t quite a Souverin
sweep though, Jeri Swanson dressed up as a
cork screw (and her mom was the bottle of
sexy red wine). The innovative costume won
the trophy for best women’s costume.
Gotta say, the party was spooktacular!

In the beginning all automobiles were open cockpit driv-

busses became common place the need for glass in-
creased.
By 1919, 9 out of 10 cars had a t least three items avail-
able. What were they ? Windshield, top & side curtains
By 1929 9 out of 10 cars had what features standard?
Wrap around glass (front, side and back)
When was laminated glass or safety glass invented? It
wasn’t invented.
It was discovered by accident in what year? 1903
By whom? A Frenchman named Edouard Benedictus
How? He dropped a glass flask that broke but did not
shatter .

coated with what? Dried plastic cellulose nitrate
After process refinement the bonding of celluloid film
between two layers of glass was patented in what year?
1909
This product wasn’t immediately adopted by car manu-
facturers, but was very populas during WWI, for what?
Gas mask eye pieces.
When did safety glass for windshields begin to appear?
1929
In 2934 what process allowed new and completely differ-
ent designs for automobiles? Curved glass for whind-
shilds and windows.
In the early 1960’s another design process for glass was
being used for car designs. What was it? Curved side-
windows.
What type of safety glass is used now? Tempered glass.
Our club works
hard during the
year so we can help
in our community.
As this year nears
its end, donations
