what parable can we use for it? It is like a mustard

plants." - Mk 4:30-32b

Peter Pence
“A little mercy makes the world less cold and more just.”
—Pope Francis, Angelus, March 17, 2013
June 15, 2018
My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
On the weekend of June 24, our diocese will take up
the Peter’s Pence Collection. Our participation
supports the charitable work of Pope Francis as he
reaches out to those who are marginalized and
suffering around the globe. By supporting this
collection, you join the Holy Father in bringing a little
more mercy into the world.
Pope Francis challenges us to look at those around us
with the eyes of mercy. At a Papal Audience he said,
“We encounter so many weary and oppressed people
today . . . And how is our heart? Is it merciful? And our
way of thinking and acting, is it inclusive?” (Jubilee
Audience, Nov. 12, 2016). I invite you to reflect on
how you feel moved to answer the call to mercy.
In Iraq, many people still live a nightmare of war and
violence. This has left many displaced, including
young people in the midst of their studies. Without
an educated population, it will be difficult for the
country to gain stability. Thanks to support from this
collection, the Archdiocese of Erbil, in Iraqi
Kurdistan, has received funding for 10 scholarships for
young displaced persons. With this help, the students
can complete their university education and move
forward with the hope of rebuilding their country.
Let us join with our brothers and sisters in faith from
around the globe to help Pope Francis reach the
marginalized in our world. I ask that you prayerfully
consider how you can best support the collection this
year. For more information about the good works that
result and the response over past years, please visit
the website of the U. S. Conference of Catholic
Bishops at www.usccb.org/peters-pence.

OUTREACH MINISTRY
Members of this ministry primarily bring the
Eucharist to those of our parish who are unable to
attend a Mass on the weekend. Additionally,
members serve as Eucharistic Ministers at Mass as
needed. Contact the rectory to find out more about
this ministry. Or contact the rectory if you know of
someone who would appreciate receiving the
Eucharist at home.
Haitian Sewing Ministry
Our Haitian Sewing Ministry meets every Wednesday
from 9 am to noon downstairs in our church hall.
Volunteers are needed to press fabrics, to gather
sewing items into kits, and for those with portable
sewing machines, to sew up dresses, shorts, small
blankets and pillow cases. It’s a very busy, very happy
place and we’d love to have you join us! Light
refreshments are always served.
Thank you for considering how you can respond to
the call to be a “Witness of Charity” by your prayers,
your spreading the word about this good work, and
by your financial support.
With every prayerful best wish, I remain,
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Robert J. McManus, S.T.D.
