1.0 PURPOSE
The purpose of this calculation is to analyze the cover plates that will be installed over various pits in the 241-A
Tank Farm. The cover plate assemblies are H-14-110482-010, H-14-110482-020, H-14-110482-030, and H-14-
110482-040. This analysis will size the hoist rings and analyze the plates in flexure.
2.0 METHODOLOGY
The cover plates H-14-110482-010 (241-A “A” Pits), H-14-110482-020 (241-A-01B, -02B, -04B, -05B, -06B, -
01C, -02C, -03C, -04C, and -06C), H-14-110482-030 (241-A-05C), and H-14-110482-040 (241-A-01H, -02D, -
03D, and -06D) are checked for lifting based on RPP-8360. Since these cover plates are temporary and
considered PC-1M they are not required to resist seismic forces per TFC-ENG-STD-06. The cover plates are
checked in flexure to the requirements of the AISC, Steel Construction Manual. The Actek®1 swivel hoist
rings are checked using the Actek catalog and RPP-8360 requirements.
3.0 DESIGN INPUTS
1. The modulus of elasticity of steel is 29000 ksi. (AISC 14th
Ed., Table B4.1b)
2. The density of steel is 490 pcf. (AISC 14th
Ed., Table 17-12)
3. A 5% weight contingency factor is accounted for per RPP-8360, Section 6.2.1.2.
4. The dynamic lifting force factor is 25% per RPP-8360, Section 6.2.1.3.
5. All other Inputs are listed in Section 8.0, Calculations.
4.0 ASSUMPTIONS
There are no unverified assumptions in this calculation. Engineering judgments are used and justified in the
body of the calculation.
5.0 COMPUTER SOFTWARE
No unverified computer software was used in this analysis. Mathcad®2, Release 15.0.0.436 was used for the
hand calculations. Calculations are checked using a handheld calculator.

6.0 RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS
As determined in Section 8.0 the hoist rings and cover plates are adequate for lifting. The hoist ring capacities
do not need to be reduced because all of the requirements mentioned in VI-50159 are met. The rated capacity is
determined in Section 8.3 and the thickness of the plate versus screw diameter is checked in Section 8.4. The
drawing has a note to make sure the steel plate is at least 58 ksi which is within the requirements of ASTM A36
and provides recommended manufacturing torque ratings.
The Not-to-Exceed Lifting Pull is 21,363 lbs and the Maximum Allowable Rated Capacity is 31,820 lbs for H-
14-110482-010 (Actek AK46802).
The Not-to-Exceed Lifting Pull is 6,300 lbs and the Maximum Allowable Rated Capacity is 12,728 lbs for H-
14-110482-020 (Actek AK46353).
The Not-to-Exceed Lifting Pull is 15,530 lbs and the Maximum Allowable Rated Capacity is 31,820 lbs for H-
14-110482-030 (Actek AK46802).
The Not-to-Exceed Lifting Pull is 5,889 lbs and the Maximum Allowable Rated Capacity is 12,728 lbs for H-
14-110482-040 (Actek AK46353).
