What is Respiratory Care? Respiratory Care is a challenging and
rewarding health care specialty that deals with patients who have deficiencies and abnormalities of their cardiac and pulmonary systems.
Under the direction of a physician, respiratory care practitioners manage, treat, evaluate and aid in the diagnosis of patients with cardiopulmonary problems.

Respiratory services include:
Maintenance of natural airways, including endotracheal intubation, and the insertion and care of a variety of airway devices.
Assistance with cardiopulmonary resuscitation

medical gases and administration apparatus, environmental control systems, humidification, aerosols, and
Diagnostic assessments of x-rays, ABGs and Pulmonary Functions.

Bronchopulmonary drainage and breathing exercises
Administration of drugs and medications to the cardio-pulmonary system.
Mechanical ventilatory support including maintenance and weaning.
Program Overview Length of training – 2 years Course starts in August of each year
for beginning students and May of each year for advanced students that are already a CRT
Graduates can transfer to UCF to earn their Bachelor of Science Degree in Cardiopulmonary Science in 32 credits.
Admission Requirements SCC application High school diploma or G.E.D. CPT test (check with a counselor because certain
SAT/ACT scores and degrees may waive you from taking this test)
ENC 1101 - English I BSC 2093C - Anatomy and Physiology I Must possess Intermediate Algebra skill level,
satisfied by completion of MAT1033 or have test scores which place a student into MAC 1105 College Algebra.
