Dear Parents and Guardians,
WE WANT OUR PARENTS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents think of our school. The Parent Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is conducted amongst a sample of randomly selected parents at each school. It is designed to assist our school in gaining an understanding of parents’ perception of school climate, student engagement and relationships with our parent community. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. The survey will be conducted online by ORIMA Research Pty Ltd and only takes 15 minutes to complete. The survey can be accessed via desktop computer, laptop, tablet or mobile at any convenient time within the fieldwork period from Monday 7th August to Sunday 27th August. Approximately 30 per cent of parents will be invited to participate in this year’s survey. All responses to the survey are anonymous. The survey results will be reported back to our school at the end of September.
The online survey is available in English, Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Chin (Hakha) and Hindi.
Survey language guides will be provided in a range of languages including Albanian, Bengali, Burmese, Cantonese, Dari, Filipino, Greek, Gujarati, Indonesian, Japanese, Karen, Khmer, Korean, Macedonian, Malayalam, Pashto, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Serbian, Sinhalese, Somali, Spanish, Tagalog, Tamil, Telugu, Turkish or Urdu.
The survey results will be communicated to parents through annual reporting.

Help RPPS by Collecting Woolworths Earn & Learn Stickers starting July 26th
We are excited again to be taking part in the Woolworths Earn & Learn
program. You can help our school by collecting Woolworths Earn & Learn
stickers when you shop at Woolworths between Wednesday 26th July and
Tuesday 19th September 2017. We will redeem these stickers for awesome
educational resources for our school.
So ask grandparents, friends, neighbours & work colleagues to help us to
collect stickers and fill as many sticker sheets as possible. Sticker sheets are
now available from the library or the office. A box for the completed sheets is
in the foyer near the library door.
We are grateful for your support and look forward to a successful program.
Thankyou
Chris Quayle.
BIG WRITE - The Beach
The beach is so fun, it makes me feel fresh. The water is so fresh to me
when it touches my skin. The weather is so hot and my face turns bright
red when the sun comes out. I build sand castles. All the waves push the
water up and my sandcastle gets wet and breaks. The wet sand sticks to
my skin and I need water to feel fresh again.

In the next three weeks, students will be focusing on “I Can Do It” thinking, which is simply thinking
positively prior to approaching their work tasks.
The theory is that what we think influences the feelings we have, which in turn influences our ability to
act.
When we begin a task with negative thoughts such as “I don’t want to do this” or “This is going to be
hard”, our body responds with negative feelings such as resentment, anger, tiredness or
distress. These feelings in turn can lead to us to:
- only putting in a half effort
- taking longer to complete a task than necessary
- giving up half way
- not beginning the task at all.
It’s important that we encourage our students to think positively about the success they can have with
their tasks. Examples of this include:
- I can do this!
- I’ve been successful with challenges before
- I’m going to do my best
- I have people to support me with challenging tasks.
Such thinking is also very relevant at the moment with the students engaging in a large amount of
assessment/testing. A positive attitude and the feelings they create will free students up to perform as
close to their full potential as possible. So I encourage everyone in the school community to work with
our students on the power of positive thinking and the potential success it can bring. We all can do it!

Suddenly, I saw the humongous Mount Everest. Blue, rocky
with snow as white as paper sprinkled on top. Houses
surrounded it but no people lived in them. Maybe it’s
because the mountain was slowly eddging towards them each
day.
