Saint Canera, patroness of Irish Sailors, is sitting in a boat with an oil lamp, the symbol of wisdom and virginity, with a monastery on an island in the background where she sought spiritual rest. She was
refused entrance to the island but was given Eu-charist just before she died. The shamrock speaks to her Irish ancestry.

R E F L E X I Ó N
Estamos invitados a vivir en la casa del Señor por toda la eternidad.
A medida que avanzamos hacia el final de otro año litúrgico, nuestras lecturas comienzan a ha-blarnos sobre el fin de los tiempos. Llenos de es-peranza y ánimo, están destinados a incitarnos a vivir fielmente el Evangelio sin importar lo que nos suceda en esta vida. Entre ellos se encuentra el salmo responsorial de hoy, el Salmo 23, donde el Señor es nuestro pastor que nos guía a verdes pas-tos.
El profeta Isaías habla del gran banquete que el Señor preparará para su pueblo al final de los tiempos. Pablo escribe a los filipenses, asegurán-doles que él sabe cómo vivir en diferentes circuns-tancias y que todo lo puedo en Cristo que me for-talece. En el Evangelio, Jesús cuenta una parábo-la que compara el reino de los cielos con un rey que hace un banquete de bodas para su hijo.

Children's Liturgy
Hi ALL Little People of St Canera. Since we do not have Children’s Liturgy due to Social Distancing, Children’s Liturgy will Zoom Saturday’s at 6 p.m., before the Spanish Mass. It is presented in English so ALL children are invited.

INTERSCHOLASTIC ACTIVITIES on SUNDAYS
In the July 24, 2020 edition of The Mirror, Bish-op Rice asks, "Should we be holding practice or playing games on a Sunday afternoon?" Policy 6820 from the Diocesan School Administrative Manual says, "In scheduling interscholastic ac-tivities, the individual responsible for this duty needs to be sensitive to important days in the year of worship. As far as possible, interscholas-tic activities should not be scheduled on such days (e.g., Holy Days of Obligation, Ash Wednesday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, East-er Vigil, etc.)." Sundays are Holy Days of Obli-gation and activities scheduled then should be the exception. Bishop Rice concludes his col-umn with these words, "Let us reclaim Sunday. Make a commitment to attend Mass as a family. Spend time with one another, making Sunday a day of rest. Share a meal together. I hope these activities can become part of our 'new normal.'"
Exploring the Word of God from the “Other Side” 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Reading 2 Philippians 4:12-14, 19-20
Brothers and sisters: I know how to live in humble circumstances; I know also how to live with abundance. In every circumstance and in all things I have learned the secret of being well fed and of going hungry, of living in abundance and of being in need. I can do all things in him who strengthens me. Still, it was kind of you to share in my distress. My God will fully supply whatever you need, in accord with his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. To our God and Father, glory forever and ever. Amen.
We have all found ourselves where Paul is: realizing that life swings in our favor and against us—perhaps even on the same day! But, notice how Paul writes of this: he does not tell us his SECRET of HOW HE COPES WITH THE REALITY OF BEING “BETWEEN” “humble circumstances and abundance.”
At first, you might be mad that there is no “lesson” for us in this—but the reality is what might be a lesson for me, might not be a les-son for you and vice versa! God has “fine-tuned” our experiences so sharply that they only fit us! There is almost nothing generic about them! And Paul had come to realize that in his years of conversion!
The other day a “new” parishioner asked me why I don’t dress like a nun. I had not heard that question in years, but I tried to answer po-litely! As I reflect further on the question, I realize that I have come to the understanding that God is not a “cookie-cutter” God. God knows each one of us so personally and so in-timately that She only deals with us in our uniqueness! God does not even love us the
same! He is completely personal and totally individualized in how He treats us. So—when we are being “well-fed”, God is loving us; when we are “going hungry” God is also lov-ing us! It is really up to us to discern which is “well-fed” and which is “hunger”! Because in each of those realities, we will find God’s ev-erlasting love!
Daily saying the following prayer might help us “get it”.
Serenity Prayer God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time, accepting hardship as a pathway to peace, taking, as Jesus did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it, trusting that you will make all things right, if I surrender to your will, so that I may be reasonably happy in this life, and supremely happy with you forever in the next. Amen.

HOLY LAND Items
A Christian group from Bethlehem in the Holy Land is visiting our church on Saturday and Sunday October 17 & 18. They come to us to sell olive wood carvings and crafts that are hand made by the Christians in the Holy Land. This is their main source of income. We can support them by buying their beautiful olive wood carvings and crafts so this way we help Christians families to stay in the Holy Land. Pray for the Christians in the Holy Land and thank you all for the support. GOD BLESS.
