NO BAD NEWS There are many mes when we say, “Tell me what I want to hear, and don’t confuse me with facts.” And we don’t take kindly to someone who might be bold enough to snuff out our expecta ons. The biggest problem with such an a tude is not that we miss out on the truth or the facts, but that we miss out on the new and surprising gi s others can give us. Like the townspeople in today’s Gospel story, we too o en refuse to allow others to display the talents that can be good news for us. Today’s readings call for hospitality and faith and discernment. Hospitality opens the doors of our hearts and minds to the “stranger” among us, no ma er how familiar he or she may seem to be. Faith enables us to accept the gi s of others, no ma er how alarming or “strange” they may seem to be. Discernment helps us discover the prophets in our midst, no ma er how amazing they may seem to be. Hospitality, faith, and discernment—cul vate these. Then, nobody can bring bad news.
NO MALAS NOTICIAS Hay muchas veces cuando decimos: “Dime lo que quiero escuchar, y no me confundas con datos”. Y no vemos con buenos ojos a alguien que podría ser lo suficientemente audaz y acabe con nuestras expecta vas. El mayor problema con esa ac tud no es que nos perdemos la verdad o los hechos, sino que nos perdemos los regalos nuevos y sorprendentes que otros nos pueden dar. Al igual que la gente del pueblo en el relato del Evangelio de hoy, nosotros también a menudo nos negamos a permi r que otros muestren los talentos que pueden ser una buena no cia para nosotros. Las lecturas de hoy piden hospitalidad, fe y discernimiento. La hospitalidad abre las puertas de nuestro corazón y nuestras mentes a los “forasteros” entre nosotros, no importa lo familiar que él o ella puede parecer. La fe nos permite aceptar los dones de los demás, no importa cuán alarmante o “extraños” nos puedan parecer. El discernimiento nos ayuda a descubrir a los profetas entre nosotros, no importa lo increíbles que puedan parecer. Hospitalidad, fe y discernimiento –cul valos. WAITING Our Lord prefers to wait for the sinner for years rather than keep the sinner wai ng one instant. —St. Peter Julian
Little Mysteries Two small rites—or, as one liturgist has called them, “little mysteries”—accompany the preparation of the gifts. The priest or deacon takes a small cruet of water from the server and adds a drop of water to the wine. Then, after the elevation of the chalice (and the incensation, if incense is used), the priest washes his hands. Both of these actions were at first practical, matter-of-fact realities: in the ancient world the wine was usually quite thick, and was generally mixed with water before it was drunk. And in the early church, when the faithful brought forward a great variety of gifts at this time, there was a definite need for the presider to wash his hands! But now these rites serve a purely symbolic function. The mingling of the water and wine is accompanied by a prayer that speaks of the wonderful exchange of the Mass, the mingling of Christ’s divinity and our humanity. And as the priest washes his hands, he prays words of supplication from Psalm 51, acknowledging his own sinfulness in the presence of the assembly before he dares to approach the altar for this most sacred action. —Corinna Laughlin, Copyright © J. El Vino Mientras que el pan nos da la fuerza, el vino nos da la alegría. Su consumo no es tan esencial como el agua, pero al compar rlo hace sacra la vida aún más, refirma la amistad y significa también la vitalidad humana. El vino es la plenitud de la vida, es símbolo de la felicidad y prosperidad. Siendo el nuevo Israel, la Iglesia, es el nuevo vino que en ofrenda se presenta ante el altar. En el An guo Testamento el mismo pueblo de Dios fue compara-do con una viña (Isaías 5:1 – 7). Al presentar el vino con el pan al altar, estamos simbolizando nuestra humanidad total, en sus procesos de cambio y aspiraciones más profundas. Este vino que ofrecemos, nos recuerda lo más ín mo y sagrado de un ser humano: su sangre y con ella la vida en todo sen do. Como cris anos, beberemos este mismo vino, siendo ya Sangre del Señor, porque con esta acción estamos dispuestos a beber su cáliz, a compar r su suerte, a asumir su cruz. Ofrecer pan y vino en el altar es ofrecer nuestra propia vida a hacernos pan para que todos coman; vino para que todos tengan vida en abundancia. —Miguel Arias,

Read Ezekiel 2:2-5, Psalm 123, 2 Corinthians 12:7-10, Mark 6:1-6a My Grace is sufficient for You
St. Paul speaks about laboring for Christ, visions, and revela ons from the Holy Spirit. Then he goes on to explain his weaknesses: to keep me from being inflated, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to humiliate me, to keep me humble. This “thorn” could be a painful physical condi on; an addic on; rejec on from others; tempta ons of immorality; or a combina on of them all!
Resis ng or figh ng the power in these thorny situa ons usually leads to failure and in his humilia on and weakness Paul asks the Lord three mes to remove the thorn. Christ gave him this simple answer, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Jesus’ answer encourages us to discover our weaknesses can become our greatest strength. How is this possible?
First, describe the truth of the thorny situa on. Ask the Lord to help you become willing and ready to surrender it. Come to believe the power of Christ is greater than any weakness and/or failure. Feel the nudge, surrender the ‘thorn’, and admit “when I am powerless,” stop, listen, and hear the Lord respond, “then I AM strong.” Second, in silence discover a simple grace entering your soul bringing contentment to hardships and for tude to overcome tempta ons. This is the priceless secret for daily life.
No ce the “I AM” is the same way God iden fied himself to Moses at the burning bush. What a joy to realize many centuries later our Lord’s grace con nues to turn human weaknesses into a channel of Divine strength. Blessings.

Mi Gracia es suficiente para Ti
San Pablo habla de trabajar por Cristo, visiones y revelaciones del Espíritu Santo. Luego él con núa explicando sus debilidades: Para evitar que me crea mas, me dieron una espina en la carne para humillarme, para mantenerme humilde. ¡Esta “espina” podría ser una condición sica dolorosa; la adicción; rechazo de otros; tentaciones de inmoralidad; o una combinación de todos ellos!
Resis endo o luchando contra el poder en estas situaciones espinosas conduce general-mente al fracaso y en su humillación y debilidad Pablo pide al Señor tres veces para quitar la espina. Cristo le dio esta simple respuesta, “Mi gracia es suficiente para , porque mi poder se hace perfecto en la debilidad”. La respuesta de Jesús nos anima a
descubrir que nuestras debilidades pueden llegar a ser nuestra mayor fortaleza. ¿Cómo es esto posible?
Primero, descubra la situación espinosa. Pídale al Señor que le ayude a estar dispuesto y listo para superarla. Crea que el poder de Cristo es mayor que cualquier debilidad y/o fracaso. Sienta el empujón, suelte la “espina” y admita su debilidad”, deténgase y escuche al Señor responder: “Entonces soy fuerte”. Segundo, en silencio descubra una simple gracia llenando su alma y trayendo alegría a las penurias y fortaleza para rechazar las tentaciones. Este es el secreto ines mable para la vida diaria.
Aviso el “YO SOY” es la misma manera que Dios uso para definirse ante a Moisés en el arbusto ardiente. Qué bueno saber que muchos siglos después la gracia de nuestro Señor con núa haciendo de las debilidades humanas un canal de fuerza Divina. Bendiciones.

Sacrament of Marriage The Pastoral Guidelines for Marriage Preparation are that a minimum of 7 months be set aside for personal preparation for marriage. Couples should refrain from setting a firm date until after they have called the office to discuss marriage plans. Weddings are celebrated Saturdays at 2pm.
