Catechetical Institute Day All are welcome and encouraged to join us for the Catechetical Institute Day that is being held on Saturday, February 22nd at St. Joseph's in Grand Rapids. Through a generous CREED grant we are able to bring Bill Keimig in to the diocese for this day of formation to learn more about how we can better utilize the Catechetical Institute in our parishes! Last year we became a partnering diocese with the CI, which allows us access to fantastic formation in the areas of catechesis, evangelization, youth ministry, RCIA, and more throughout the entire year. This day will be fruitful for those who are both working/volunteering in parishes, as well as those who are simply interested in learning more about their faith! There is no cost for participants, but we ask that you register at www.dioceseduluth.org/Catec-leaders. This event is sponsored by the diocesan Office of Catechesis.

Saint Vincent de Paul Poor Boxes are now installed in both churches.

Please consider a donation of change or use an envelope for a recorded donation.

Thank you for your donation.

Do you have a family member or friend serving in the Military?

You can request a Saint Michael Medal to be sent to them from our State Chaplain. There is no cost to you or the military service person. The military does not need to be a man, a Knight of Columbus or a Catholic.

Send the name of the person in the military, their rank, branch of service and address to Chaplain Fr. Gabriel Walz, and he will send the medal (and a prayer book if requested) directly to the serviceman/woman.

Please email your requests to: [email protected]

Prayers from our Minnesota Knights’ families are very important to our military men and women. Continue to pray for them and their safety.

WHY DO WE DO THAT? CATHOLIC LIFE EXPLAINED

Why do priests wear vestments? Do they have a special meaning?

Answer: Vestments are clothes worn for a specific purpose.

Priests will joke that they cover a thousand flaws. But our own manner of dress often corresponds to what we do. We dress up for special occasions, and for

special guests. We wear certain clothes for golf, for outdoor activities, and years ago, we even had our “Sunday best” clothes we wore just for Church.

Vestments are much the same, and each one has a meaning. The alb is a reminder of the baptismal

garment. The stole is a symbol of ordained ministry and authority within the Church. The chasuble reminds us that we are on a pilgrimage of faith,

passing through this life towards heaven. Priests wear vestments for two basic reasons. First, they draw attention to the importance and solemnity

of the act of worship. The color of the vestments indicates the season of the year or the feast being celebrated. Secondly, vestments draw attention to what the priest does, rather than who he is. In the

celebration of the Mass, the focus is on what we do together, on our common unity, and on the mystery

and person of Christ.

WOMEN'S CONFERENCE

The eighth annual Women of Faith Conference is scheduled March 28, 2020, at Marshall School in

Duluth. This year's theme is "Worthy," and the event will feature nationally acclaimed motivational speaker, TV contributor, radio host, and life activist
