STEWARDSHIP REMINDER
We find ourselves in the season of vacation and other
wonderful reasons for travel. Please remember that our
financial commitments as a parish don’t “take a vacation”.
To you who provide your financial support through
electronic giving weekly or monthly, Thank You! To you
who use the envelope system, please remember to
contribute as you do regularly by anticipating or making up
your contributions. Everyone’s participation helps keep us
on track! Thank you!
GOSPEL MEDITATION
Active and contemplative. At work and at rest. These are
dynamics we all face in our lives, and if we're honest, we
might not always balance perfectly! In this Sunday's
Gospel, our daily tensions play out in two sisters. Mary "sat
beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak." Martha,
on the other hand, is "burdened with much serving." This,
as it turns out, is not necessarily "the better part." All of us reading this have some sort of labor we engage
in. We have different trades or careers. We have
responsibilities as family members, some of which may
take up most of our time. In the time of Scripture, showing
hospitality to guests was one of the most important values
in society. Our work is important. Jesus himself spent
decades as a carpenter. So what's the problem with Martha?
Martha is burdened, anxious, and worried. Not only that,
but she resents her sister's choice. "Tell her to help me," she
demands of Jesus. How easy it is to get very busy doing good things. We
need to provide for our families and plan for retirement. We
need to make sure children are clothed, fed, and educated.
Our committees, ministries, and sports schedules need to
stay on track. However, without a balance of work with
rest, without contemplation in the midst of our action, we
will miss the point. While many parts are required for our
life in the world to function, the better part is our
relationship with God. This week, make time in your busy
schedule to sit at Jesus' feet. Maybe this is 20 minutes with
Scripture, participating in a daily Mass, or a quiet walk
alone in the park. Receive what Christ wants to speak to
you.

Join The “Roe”-Sary Prayer Campaign Join Emmanuel Catholic Radio’s “ROE”-SARY Prayer
Campaign, to ask our Holy Mother’s intercession to help us
defeat passage of the extreme abortion bill, the Roe Act, in
Massachusetts. If passed S.1209/H.3320 would make the
most extreme abortion rights in the country the law in MA.
Please sign up to pray the “ROE”-SARY at Church, home,
commuting to work, or anywhere you can to help us pray
this Act out of the legislature. Call 508-767-1230, visit
1230radio.com, or email [email protected].
How many “ROE”-SARIES can you save to protect our
unborn children?
MONDAY, JULY 22
5:00 PM Mustard Seed
6:00 PM High School Religious Ed Meeting
With students and parents
To be held at St. Philip Church
16TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
“I am a minister in accordance with God’s stewardship
given to me to bring to completion for you the word of
God.” (Colossians 1:25) We are all called to evangelize-to
continuously grow in our relationship with Jesus and to
share it with others. We may not be called to evangelize
like St. Paul, but we should look for opportunities to share
our faith with those closest to us, like our family, friends
and neighbors. Pray for the courage to share your faith the
next time the opportunity arises.
There will be an important meeting for high school
students and their parent(s) on Monday, July 22nd at 6:00
PM. The meeting will be held at St. Philip Church.
St. Mary Magdalene,
woman of many sins, who
by conversion became the
beloved of Jesus, thank you
for your witness that Jesus
forgives through the
miracle of love.
You, who already possess
eternal happiness in His
glorious presence, please
intercede for me, so that
some day I may share in the
same everlasting joy.
Amen
We welcome Father John Henault, who arrived this past
week, to his home parish of Saint James for his annual
vacation until he returns to Haiti later this summer. He lives
and works in a small village in Haiti and his primary
concern is caring for people who have contracted Hansen’s
disease, or leprosy. He will celebrate a Mass every
weekend with us while he is here. We will take up a special
collection the weekend of August 3rd and 4th for his
mission in Haiti.
