Solemn Mass for All Saints’ Day

In just over a week the Church celebrates the Solemnity of All Saints, or All Saints’ Day. Since it falls on

a Monday this is not a holy day of obligation this year. However, Mass will be offered in each parish to

celebrate this important feast day of the Church. See the bulletin for times and locations.

One of the Masses that will be offered for All Saints’ Day is a Solemn Mass at St. Pius X in Glencoe at

6:30 p.m. This will be a truly beautiful Mass for the glory of God, the honor of the saints, and for the

edification and sanctification of those who participate. It will be celebrated in the form of the Mass

promulgated after Vatican II with which we are all familiar. However, the Mass will be celebrated in

Latin (see the August 29 and September 5 bulletins on this topic) with the Liturgy of the Word (i.e.

readings, responses, and homily) in English. We will also sing hymns in English along with the propers

in Latin. We will be blessed to have seminarians from the seminaries in St. Paul to lead the music along

with our own Fr. John Hayes. A program for the Mass will include the Latin responses and translations

of Latin texts into English.

Another unique feature of this Mass is that we will celebrate it at the high altar. Many do not realize that

this is still an option in the current form of the Mass. This is often described as Mass celebrated by the

priest “with his back to the people.” However, this does not describe the true meaning of this orientation.

A better way to refer to it is Mass celebrated ad orientem, or toward the east. In the first centuries of the

Church, Christians often prayed in the direction of the east toward the rising sun. This represents the Son

who will come again in glory at the end of time. Since it is not always possible to build churches oriented

to the east, the idea of “liturgical east” arose. This means that at certain points of the Mass, especially

during the Eucharistic Prayer, the priest faces towards a representation of Christ such as an image of

Christ in glory or a crucifix, and/or the Real Presence of Christ in the tabernacle. The idea is not that the

priest does not want to look at the people. Rather it is that at those points of the Mass when the priest is

addressing God, he faces God. Moreover, the priest is facing in the same direction as the people so as to

represent that he is not praying to or at the people, but is leading them in prayer in the person of Christ by

the power of the Holy Spirit to God the Father. Together priest and people turn toward the Lord and offer

Him prayer, praise, worship, and adoration.

We purposely chose to offer this form of solemn Mass at a time that is not obligatory. The purpose is not

to cause a stir or make people fearful about what future Masses in the AFC will be like. The idea is

simply to offer this form of the Mass to give people a wider experience of the Church’s liturgy and to give

those are interested a chance to experience and participate in it. No one has to come. However, I

certainly encourage you to do so if you are able. You might appreciate it more than you think. My

experience has been that many do. It’s going to be very beautiful! Happy Sunday!

In Christ,

JOB OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE IN THE ST. JOHN

PAUL II AREA FAITH COMMUNITY: St. Pius X Parish Office

Assistant (part-time): We are looking for a Catholic, faith-filled

person with good “people skills” to answer calls, help parishioners,

and assist with basic administrative tasks in the St. Pius X parish

office. Competency or experience in data entry and word-processing

required. For full details of this position, a complete description of

this position is available upon request. For more information, please

contact Fr. Matthew Wiering at [email protected] or Shirley

Nowak at [email protected].

THE YOUTH OF C.O.R. will be hosting the first of three “COR

Nights” at St. Aloysius in Olivia on November 14. The evening

consists of games, music, a speaker, time for small group discussion,

food, and Cor Jesu. It should be a great night! November’s topic is

“Purgatory: God’s Loving Fire” presented by Fr. Garrett Ahlers

(November is the Month of All Souls, after all). This is a topic that

often piques the curiosity of Catholics and non-Catholics alike and it

is sure to inspire great questions and conversation. Whether you have

an existing youth group and you want to foster discipleship within it,

you’re looking for way to jump-start a new youth group, or you are

simply interested in such an event, this is a great opportunity for

either situation. It’ll be a jam-packed night full of activities for youth

at all stages of their faith journey. For more information see the flyers

or visit www.dnu.org/cor-night or contact Kevin Losleben

([email protected]).

SEPTEMBER 22 – OCTOBER 31, 2021: 40 Days for Life,

St. Cloud, Peaceful, Prayerful, vigil. Mon-Fri 7:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. on

the public sidewalk in front of planned parenthood, East St. Cloud.

We pray for an end to legalized abortion. Come join us. For

questions or to sign-up, contact [email protected] or “just come”

(do not be afraid to join us. Captains will be there to welcome you all

day during the campaign.

THE MONTH OF OCTOBER each year is dedicated to the Most

Holy Rosary. Each night at 7:00 p.m., Relevant Radio (Minneapolis,

MN - 1330AM WLOL, or download the Relevant Radio app.)

presents the 'Family Rosary Across America', a live and interactive

radio program to bring the entire country together at the same time to

pray the rosary. During the month of October, the special intention of

the rosary is for “the end to legal abortion in America and an

outpouring of support for expectant mothers.” With the Supreme

Court of the United States taking up the Dobbs case in December that

could lead to overturning Roe v. Wade, the Justices will need the

grace of wisdom and courage to confront the issues honestly. This is

a wonderful opportunity to join and support this effort by praying and

promoting the daily Rosary in October for this intention.

THIS WEEKEND WE CELEBRATE WORLD MISSION

SUNDAY. We celebrate this day by remembering our baptismal

call to bring the Gospel to all! The collection today for the Society

for the Propagation of the Faith supports the work and witness of the

Mission Church, as it provides for priests, religious and lay leaders

who offer the Lord’s mercy and concrete help to the most vulnerable

communities in the Pope’s missions. Thank you for your generosity.

Please make your checks payable to the Church of the Holy Family,

the Church of the Holy Trinity or the Church of St. Pius X. We will

consolidate all of our donations and forward them to the appropriate

organization. We are not able to cash checks made out to the

specific organization or collection. If you did not receive an

envelope and wish to make a donation, please put your donation in a

clearly marked envelope. Thank you!

“Let’s Build Together”

We want to reach out to you all to see if you know of anyone who be interested in our open 1st

Grade teacher position. Unfortunately, our current teacher, Carolyn Schmidt, was no longer able

to stay with us due to health concerns. If you can think of anyone, even someone willing to take

the class for a short while to buy us a little more time, that would be a huge help. Please keep this

very important intention in your prayers.

Our Marathon total as of Tuesday morning is $50,571.61! Money is still trickling in, so we will

have a final total soon. We want to send out a huge “Thank you!” to all who generously

supported this annual fundraiser this year making it a wonderful success.

Thank you for your continued prayers and support! We will continue to pray for you, our

benefactors, every day.

God Bless,

Anthony Biese,
