Special Announcement from the Parish Pastoral Council

RE: SCHEDULING OUR SUNDAY MASSES PART FOUR

Starting July 1, 2012 Our Sunday Mass Schedule will be:

Saturday, 5 pm Sunday, 7 am, 8:30 am, 10:30 am, 12:30 pm

Please Note The Mass Intentions will transfer to the new times.

The daily Mass schedule will remain the same.

For the past few weeks, the Parish Pastoral Council has been sharing the reasons behind the creation of the new Mass schedule as well as answering questions regarding the Mass schedules, both new and old.

One concern that is often raised is that Baptisms are currently celebrated at only one Mass – the 12 Noon. This is because it is the last Mass of the day. Once that Mass, which includes the celebration of Baptism is over; families are free to take photos and socialize as long as they want since there are no other Masses.

With the new Mass schedule, we will now be able to celebrate the Sacrament of Baptism at both the 10:30 am and 12:30 pm Masses. The two-hour span between these services will allow for families to celebrate their special day and for other parishioners to attend Mass unimpeded by parking or congestion concerns.

PASTOR’S COLUMN

LEADING US FORWARD IN FAITH

Forward in Faith 2016 is the strategic plan for every aspect of our parish, including our parish school. The plan was formally presented to the parish January 9, 2012. The

plan is available on our parish website (sjcnj.org) under Newest News.

The plan is now in the hands of the Implementation Committee which has responsibility of seeing that plans and goals contained in Forward in Faith 2016 are addressed.

Sometimes strategic plans are adopted and then filed away and forgotten. We don’t want that to happen with Forward in Faith. The members of the Implementation Committee are working with various committees, councils, and groups in the parish so that over the next 4 years the strategic plan will positively impact our parish. Some goals have been identitied for completion by this year of 2012.

Those on the Implementation include: Colette Vail, our School Principal; Heath Winborn, our Director of Operations; me as pastor; and the nine members of the parish whose photos and bios appear below.

Vickie Aquino has been part of the parish for more than 50 years. She and her husband Fred have two children. Vickie is the science teacher at Saint Joseph School. She is involved with both the Boy and Girl Scouts.

Planning Committee and currently chairs the Forward in Faith Implementation Committee.

members of the parish for 16 years. They

have four children. Sue has served two terms

on the Saint Joseph School Advisory Board

and has been involved with the school PTO

for the past 12 years. She served on the

Strategic Planning Committee since the

inception of the project, and now serves on the

PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL UPDATE The Parish Pastoral Council had its monthly meeting Monday, May 21. The meeting began with icebreaker and prayer.

We discussed the upcoming Mass schedule changes and plans to support parishioners with this change as much as possible. We then discussed the recent Day of Service. The Day of Service was a large success for all those that planned it and participated in it as well as for all those that were served. We look forward to continuing with the Day of Service in the spring or fall of 2013.

The Council discussed the actions items from the strategic plan, Forward in Faith 2016, that pertain to the Council. We all agreed that we would like to spend more time on this and will have an additional summer meeting on a Saturday in July.

The Council is currently working on preparing a welcoming committee in order to help welcome new parishioners as well as to help our parish to be one that is welcoming. We reviewed Father Raul’s Farewell Weekend and wish him well in his new assignment. Solicitation requests were reviewed. The Finance Council representative then gave us an update. The meeting ended in prayer. Comments may be addressed to the Pastoral Council([email protected])

PARISH CANTOR TO PERFORM Domenick Panfile, one of our parish leaders of song, will join the Montclair State University Chamber Choir, Vocal Accord, as the choir presents a free concert of secular and sacred song featuring American composers.

This farewell concert before the group’s European Tour, will take place Thursday, June 7, at 8 pm at Montclair State University in the Leshowitz Recital Hall located in Chapin Hall. Admission is free.

THANK YOU FOR A SUCCESSFUL PARISH DAY OF SERVICE

Saturday, May 19, was our parish’s second Day of Service. In last week’s bulletin, a thank you was issued to all those who

participated and made the day a successful one. However our Parish Day of Service would not have been a success without the donations of several venders in our community. So we graciously thank the following venders for their donations:

Shop Rite of Rochelle Park (Hamburger and Hot Dog Rolls) Schreiber’s Delicatessen of Oradell (30 lbs of Potato Salad, 8 lbs of Tuna, Restaurant jar of Mayonnaise and their recipe for the pasta salad.) Fairway Market of Paramus (Two big trays of fruit) Great Foods Market of Oradell (Several lbs of Cold Cuts) Town and Country Rentals (Use of a Gas Grill)

The generosity of these businesses blessed us. Without them, we could not have had such a successful day. Thank you to them and to all who participated in our parish Day of Service.

ST. JOSEPH CHURCH ORADELL/NEW MILFORD, NJ

Compiled by the Liturgy of the Word With Children Committee

The Gospel is the Good News about Jesus. The Gospel Reading for today is from St. Matthew Chapter 28 verses 16-20

In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells his followers to “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” He tells them to teach all the people about his commandments and to tell everyone about him, about God his Father, and about the Holy Spirit. When we were baptized, the priest used the words “I baptize you in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.” As he said this, he washed us with the waters of Baptism. When the priest did this, we became part of God’s family. Baptism makes us all children of God so that we can enter heaven and be with God, Jesus. and the Holy Spirit.

MISSION OF THE WEEK

Some time this week sit down with your parents and ask them about your Baptism. Ask them if they have

any pictures from the day of your Baptism.

NOTE TO PARENTS

The Liturgy of the Word with Children takes place at our 9am Sunday Mass. During that Mass the younger children are sent forth just before the First Reading and go to the lower church/Mary’s Chapel for their own celebration of God's Word. The readings, homily, songs and prayers are geared to their understanding. The children return before the presentation of the gifts to continue the celebration of the Liturgy with their families. We want God's Good News to be exciting for the younger members of our parish family.

The Liturgy of the Word with Children will conclude Sunday June 24. We will resume after Labor Day.

COLOR THIS PICTURE OF A BAPTISM When a person is baptized the priest pours water on the

person and says the words, “I baptize you in the name

of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
