FYI
Bible Study will resume on Thursday, January 28th. When it resumes, we will change from the Thematic Method (Random biblical themes) to the Systematic Method (book by book, and chapter by chapter). We will begin with the book of Genesis. We invite new members to plan to join the Bible Study group in this Jubilee Year of Divine Mercy.
MIDWEEK REFRESHER
READ: Luke 13: 1-9
REFLECT: Every day the press reports murders, accidents, front-page catastrophes. Jesus alludes to two public misfortunes from the news of his time. He does not refer to them in the manner of those retreat preachers who are only too happy to exploit a parish tragedy to urge people into the con-fessional. That is not Jesus' style. He does not con-sider violent deaths as divine punishments for sin. Rather, because he detects in his contemporar-ies a smug complacency, he warns them. They run the risk of being hardened to the urgency of conver-sion. Even if each of us is like a tree which for many years has given ample proof of its sterility, God is like that patient farmer who gives his fig tree another chance. This opportunity lasts until the Lord's re-turn. It is highlighted by this annual season of re-pentance that is upon us. PRAY: Pray for the grace of conversion in your life; it is never-ending. ACT: Incorporate self denial into your daily life.

PRAYER FOR NIGERIA All powerful and merciful Father, You are the God of Jus-tice, Love and Peace. You rule over all the nations of the earth. Power and might are in Your hands and no one can withstand You. We present our country, Nigeria, before You. We praise and thank You for You are the source of all we have and are. We are sorry for all the sins we have committed and for good deeds we have failed to do. In Your loving forgiveness keep us safe from the punishment we deserve. Lord, we are weighed down not only by uncer-tainties, but also by moral, economic and political prob-lems. Listen to the cries of Your people who confidently turn to You. God of infinite goodness, our strength in ad-versity, health in weakness, our comfort in sorrow, be mer-ciful to us your people. Spare this nation, Nigeria, from chaos, anarchy and doom. Bless us with Your kingdom of justice, love and peace. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

MERCY CORNER
“REACHING OUT WITH MERCY”
“After the death of the Master, the disciples had scattered; their faith had been utterly shaken, everything seemed over, all their certainties had crum-bled and their hopes had died. But now that message of the women, incred-ible as it was, came to them like a ray of light in the darkness. The news spread: Jesus is risen as He said. And then there was his command to go to Galilee; the women had heard it twice, first from the angel and then from Jesus himself: “Let them go to Galilee; there they will see me.”) Galilee is the place where they were first called, where everything began! To return there, to return to the place where they were originally called...to return to Galilee means to re-read everything on the basis of the cross and its victory, fearlessly: “Do not be afraid.” To re-read everything—Jesus’ preaching, his miracles, the new community, the excitement and the defec-tions even the betrayal—to re-read everything starting from the end, which is a new beginning, from this supreme act of love.”
(Pope Francis: Pray for the Jubilee of Mercy)
