Mass Intentions From Fr. Flanagan
Dear St. Madeline Family, “These last ones worked only one hour,
and you have made them equal to us, who bore the day’s burden and
the heat. He said to one of them in reply, ‘My friend, I am not
cheating you. Did you not agree with me for the usual daily wage?
Take what is yours and go. What if I wish to give this last one the
same as you? Or am I not free to do as I wish with my own money?
Are you envious because I am generous?’ Thus, the last will be
first, and the first will be last.” (Passage from Sunday’s Gospel)
It’s always good to have a generous boss. Generosity is a Christian
offshoot of charity and love. “Faith, hope and love remain and the
greatest of these is love.” Let’s be generous – packing an extra
measure of patience, joy, kindness, encouragement, peace, hope,
gentleness, piety with enthusiasm. Let us give the same generous
response to the last person as the first, to the enemy as the
friend, to the unkind person as the kindhearted. Either way, we
have a generous God who loves us all the same. Be generous now, so
that when we meet the generous One, we will be welcomed by a
generous embrace. God bless you and God bless the St. Mad’s Family!
Peace,
Fr. John Flanagan

READINGS
Reading I: Isaiah 55: 6-9 These verses comprise the conclusion of
the so-called “Book of Comfort” in Isaiah. We are told to seek the
Lord outside of the sanctuary. God is so completely different from
us, that it is unwise to ascribe motives or methods to Him that we
might have. He is hidden, yet He is also close to us.
Reading II: Philippians 1: 20c-24, 27a Paul writes that through his
baptism he has “died” as it were to his former life, and now lives
an existence completely taken over by Christ.
The Gospel: Matthew 20: 1-16a The parable we hear is all about
God’s generosity, and not about labor rights. His goodness comes to
the fore in His love for the most needy.
Baptisms: We welcome Gabriella Margaret Abdo, Jordan Michael
Brassell, Layla Claire Elnicki, and Wyatt Bradley Muryn as new
members of our community, born of water and the Holy Spirit.
Marriage: Congratulations and best wishes are extended to John
Friel and Dolores “Dee” Smyth who were made one in the Sacrament of
Marriage on September 19, 2020.
New Parishioners: We warmly welcome Dana Fabrizio, Frank
Malvestuto, and Nicholas & Amanda Thomas to St. Madeline
Parish.
Deaths: Our sympathy, prayers and love are extended to the friends
and family of Ronald Eubanks, Joseph Gilmore, and William
O’Keefe.
September 20 through September 26:
• The Vigil Candle on the Blessed Mother Altar has been lit in
memory of Anna Capriotti, for her “Birthday Remembrance”, at the
request of Ed Capriotti.
• The Vigil Candle on the Saint Joseph Altar has been lit in memory
of Ron Eubanks at the request of the rectory staff.

Currently Enrolling SPE Members for EITC Tax Credits! The EITC
program has had a tremendous impact on the Archdiocese of
Philadelphia’s ability to offer financial aid to many deserving
families. Families who receive EITC scholarships would not be able
to experience a Catholic education without these generous donations
from individuals in the community. The Foundation for Catholic
Education is currently accepting commitments for the 2020 tax year.
You can choose the school where you would like your tax dollars to
go! It is a win-win for everyone! If interested, contact St. James
Regional at 610-583-3662.
