From the Pastor’s Desk…..
For the last five Sundays, we have been reflecting on the sixth chapter of the Gospel of John. Today's passage concludes this chapter and highlights one of the most important aspects in our Christian life. Material food is God's gift, but a far greater gift is the spiritual food that God provides for us, which is none other than Christ himself. We either make Christ our spiritual nourishment or go hungry and die.
In the first reading Joshua asks the people “decide today whom you shall serve” (Joshua 24:15). He also shares his own decision with them saying, “As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
Today it is common to "go with the flow" but then you never make any real fundamental decisions. Some people resist making a deci-sion. They let the spiritual and moral choices, that shape their life and soul be made by the surrounding culture.
Our deep faith in the Lord helps us to make our own decisions to follow Jesus our Savior like Peter representing the other Apostles, says in the Gospel “Master, to whom shall we go to? You have the words of eternal life.” In reality Peter is saying, “There is nowhere else to go. You are ALL that matters.”
Are you and I able to respond with such faith?
Will Jesus, the Christ, be our choice?
God bless you,
Fr. John Francis
