1.0 GENERAL INFORMATION1.1 System Overview
The Learning Management System (LMS) for IT14-Data Structures with
File Organization was created using the Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic
Learning Environment, usually abbreviated as MOODLE. Moodle aims to provide
a set of tools that support an inquiry- and discovery-based approach to online
learning. The design and some functionalities of the system were made through
the installation of plugins which were all from the Moodle Online Plug-in
Directory. Adobe Captivate and Adobe Photoshop were also used for lessons
and for the enhancement of system’s design. The project was conducted at
Davao del Norte State College. The end-users of the LMS are the students of the
said institution specifically those 2nd year students enrolled in the BSIT Program
with IT14-Data Structures with File Organization as one of their major subjects.
The project aims to give support, enhance and improve the instructional
materials and teaching scheme of the subject IT14 – Data Structures with File
Organization. This project can be both reached through its official website and
through its stand-alone version. The online version includes interactive lessons,
videos, games and downloadable resources. While the stand-alone version,
likewise, contains interactive lessons, videos and games.
This project also allows students, as well as teachers, to participate in
forums and blogs. It also provides drills in every module to assess students
learning and comprehension and for them to grasp the discussed module or a
certain topic.
The system also contains glossary of terms which are all related to the
subject matter in which a student can look or search for a term’s definition.
The system provides time-bounded and randomized quizzes. The result of
such will then be recorded on a gradebook which can be downloaded by the
subject teacher for recording and grading purposes. The project also contains

assignments for students to answer and at the same time, the teacher can rate
and download a student’s assignment submission.
The students are allowed to view their own grades for the quizzes and
assignments they have taken while the teacher has the power to view all the
grades of the students enrolled in the system.
The system also provides downloadable resources such as lessons
(complete and by module), videos and even the course syllabus of the subject.
The stand-alone version can also be downloaded directly from the online LMS
itself. The project provides this user manual to serve as guidelines for new user.

1.3 Authorized Use PermissionThe system has three users with its different role and functions as follows:
1. Administrator
Has all the privileges involved in the system such as creating, reading,
updating, deleting (CRUD) all contents, data and information of the
whole system
2. Teacher/Instructor
Has all the privileges in any course-related activities such as creating,
reading, updating, deleting (CRUD) lessons, videos, downloadable

1.5 Organization of the Manual
1.0 GENERAL INFORMATION – This section provides explanations in
general terms that the system and the purpose for which it is intended. It includes
descriptions of the system such as major functions performed by the system,
user access mode, system environment or special conditions..
2.0 SYSTEM SUMMARY – This section provides a general overview of
the system written in a non-technical terminology. It outlines the uses of the
system in supporting the activities of the users and its staff.

3.0 GETTING STARTED – This section provides a general walkthrough of
the system from the initiation point through the exit point. This also serves as the
guideline for every user on how to get started utilizing the system.
4.0 USING THE SYSTEM – This section provides a detailed description of
the function of the system. This is in support to actions made by users.
5.0 REPORTING – This section describes and depicts all the standard
reports that can be generated or internal to the system.
6.0 Stand-Alone LMS – This section describes the stand-alone version of
the LMS. This also shows how to use the stand-alone version from downloading
it up to exiting it.

2.0 SYSTEM SUMMARY
The Institute of Information Technology (IIT) is one of the five institutes in
Davao del Norte State College located at New Visayas, Panabo City. The
institute caters the largest number of students among other institutes every year.
With this, each instructor is assigned to handle with numerous students in
different IT related subjects. In a typical scenario, instructors give quizzes,
assignments and projects to assess the learning and comprehension of the
students. In return, students try to comprehend and comply those given activities
but some are not able to do such due to individual differences and the most
common, inattentiveness on class discussions. Moreover, when instructors give
activities that involve printing, students spent money to submit the assigned task
or activities. At the same time, instructors, in return, are exerting extra workloads
checking and keeping those printed documents.
In response to the learning need of the college, the Learning Management
System has been realized and then created to help the instructors in teaching
and assessing students’ learning and comprehension.
2.1 System Configuration
Server – is a primary requirement before the system can be utilized. This
is where the system will be installed and be hosted. The server is usually
connected to the internet for the system to be accessed by its users.
During the actual creation of the system, the following tools were used:
Moodle 2.7.2+ - For the whole body of the system
Moodle Plugins – For the enhancement and improvement of system
functionalities
Adobe Captivate 7 – For the interactivity of lessons in the system
Adobe Photoshop – For the system’s enhanced design and interface
Adobe Flash Player – For the flash files to work properly

Camtasia Studio – For the videos in the system
Loquendo Text-to-Speech – For audios and voice involved in the
system
XAMPP – As the system’s local server
PHP and HTML5 – As the scripting languages used in the system
Sublime Text Editor – As text editor of PHP and HTML files
Web Browsers – To access the system via Internet
2.2 User Access Levels
The system has three distinct user access levels as follows:
The Administrator has the privilege to access and manipulate all
the contents of system. In general term, the administrator has the ability to
create/add, edit/update, view/read and delete/remove all contents of the
LMS.
The Teacher has the capability to access the system but in a less
privilege than Administrators. This account has the capability to
create/add, edit/update, view/read and delete/remove all course-related
contents of the LMS such as quizzes, assignments, videos, games,
forums, blogs, and other related activities.
The Student has the least user privilege among other user levels. It
has only the capability to edit own profile, explore the lessons, watch
videos, play educational games, participate in forums, blogs and groups,
take quizzes, submit assignments, view own gradebook and download
resources such as lessons, videos and course syllabus.

3.0 GETTING STARTED
Foremost, install all necessary and updated software and tools from any storage media before running the system such as Flash Player, browsers and of course, an internet connection.
1. Open a web browser.2. Type in the address bar the complete URL:
www.joyfementira.com/dnsc/it14lms3. Landing page will then appear.
3.1 Landing PageThe landing page is the page that first appears when the system is run or
executed. The landing page of this Learning Management System is shown as
shown below:

in the system, click on it and log-in page will then appear.
3.2 Logging On

How to Log in:1. Type your username / email address on the Username /Email field.
Example : markjhonoxillo
2. Type your password on the Password field. Passwords are usually in an
alphanumeric form (contains numbers, symbols, uppercase and lower
case letters)
Example: 0771x0_Mark
3. After filling up the fields for your username/email and password, click on
the Log in button or simply press enter to log in.
4. For instances of forgotten usernames or passwords, click on the
Forgotten username or password link and fill in your email address or
username (if not forgotten), then go to your email account for the
confirmation sent to you.

5. Click the New Account Link or the Create new account button for
creation of new accounts.

How to Create an Account:1. Fill up all the fields with your personal data.
2. Click the Create my new account button to save all your inputted
information. Then go to your email to confirm your account.
3. Click the Cancel button to discard your account
3.4 Joining a Group/Set
Once you already have an account, the next thing to do is to join a
group/set and to enroll in the course subject as shown below

How to Join in a Group/Set:1. Type in the correct enrolment key provided for your group/set.
2. Click Enrol me to enroll yourself to the course.
3.5 System Menu
Once you’ve logged in and enrolled in the system, the system menu will
now be working, the system menu is the navigation of all functions related to the
course that can be found on the top portion of the system (as shown in Figure 5
System Menu). It contains related links for users to use.

1. Hover on My classes to see / verify what course you are enrolled in. Then
click on the course to proceed to the course page.
2. Hover on the Lessons menu to view the available lessons classified by
term and click on the lesson that you want to view or open.
3. Hover on the Activities menu to select and view available quizzes,
assignments, games and videos.
4. Hover on the Downloadables menu select and download available
resources such as lessons, videos, course syllabus and the stand-alone
version of the system.
5. Hover on the Social menu to join and view blogs, forums, groups and the
official Facebook page of the system
6. Click on the Glossary to search for a definition of a certain word or term.
7. Click on the Message icon to show pending messages
8. Click on your Profile menu for your personal settings
9. Click on the icons for the shortcuts of the popular networking sites like
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and YouTube

4.0 USING THE SYSTEM
For full access and utilization of the system, the user must be connected
to the internet because the system works online, thus the need and acquirement
of a higher internet bandwidth is a must for the better performance of the system
itself.
4.1 My Home Page
My Home Page is the user’s own home page, this page contains
announcements and notifications of recent or current activities related to course
that a user must know in order for him/her to take actions on it. Notifications /
Announcements include assignment, quizzes, lessons and messages as shown
below:

1. Click on My Home to go to your home page.2. Click on messages to view unread messages.3. Click on the assignment icon to view assignments that need your

4.2 Profile Page
Every user has its own profile page. This page contains the profile picture (if set) of the user and some basic information about the user.

4.2.1 Edit Profile
Every user is allowed to edit his/her own profile or basic information. The
user can also add a profile picture of himself / herself as shown below:

How to Add/Change a Profile Picture:1. Hover on your Profile from the above navigation of the system, then
select Preferences > Edit Profile2. After the page loads, click on User Picture to see more options.
3. Select or Upload a profile picture that you want to use
4. Click on the Update profile button to save changes.
4.2.1.2 Changing the Password
Every user is allowed to change their passwords if necessary, to change
the password, follow these steps:

How to Change your Password:1. Click on Change Password to load the Change Password Page.
2. Type in your current password in the current password field.
3. Type in the New Password that you want in the new password field.
4. Retype your new password.
5. Click on the Save Changes button to save your new password
6. Click on Cancel to discard changing of password.
4.3 Turn Editing On
This feature is only for the administrator and the course creator or instructor. Turn Editing On is a button that when clicked will allow the administrator or the instructor to add, edit, view, and delete all course-related files and information such as lessons, videos, downloadable resources, blocks and others. This button is shown below:

4.4 Lessons
The system contains lessons, all of these lessons can be found in the
course page. These can also be accessed using the navigation menu in the
header part of the system. Below is a sample screenshot of lessons in the course
page:

1. Click on a lesson that you want to view. In the above figure, 1 are all lessons available in the system.
4.4.1 Adding a Lesson
This feature is only applicable for administrator and instructor since
students are only allowed to view all uploaded lessons. To add lessons, you must
first turn editing on as discussed above.

1. After turning editing mode on, Click on Add an Activity or Resource,
then a pop-up window will appear giving you an option of what activity or
resource you want to add. This pop-up window is shown in Figure 12.2
below.

1. Once the window above appears, scroll down the scroll bar and click on
Lesson.
2. Click the Add button to add a new lesson. Then you will be brought to
adding new lessons page. Fill up all necessary fields required and then
click save.
3. Click on Cancel to discard adding lesson.
4.4.2 Editing a Lesson
Only the administrator or the instructor can edit a lesson since students
are only allowed to view such lessons added by the instructor or the
administrator.

1. Click on General to edit general information of the lesson such as its
name and description.
2. Click on the Package to change the lessons package file.
3. Click on Appearance to see how the lessons appear on the page.
4. Click on Availability to change the lesson’s availability.
5. Click on Grade to set Grade for lesson’s view attempts.
6. Click on Attempts Management to set how many attempts a user can
have.
7. Click the Save and return to course button to save your changes and
then return to course page.
8. Click on the Save and display button to save your changes then display
the lesson you have just edited.
9. Click on Cancel to discard changes.

4.4.3 Viewing a LessonEvery user is allowed to view lessons of his/her own choice. These
lessons can be automatically accessed right from the navigation bar as shown
below:

1. Click on a topic of your own choice.2. When you already have selected a topic, click on the Enter button now.
Then the lessons will appear as shown below.

1. After clicking the enter button, the lesson that you have selected will then appear. Follow instructions that the lesson is telling you to do.
4.4.4 Deleting a Lesson**To delete a certain lesson, you must first turn editing on as discussed
above.

1. Click Edit on the right side of the lesson you’re trying to delete2. Select Delete to delete the lesson. A new page will be loaded asking for
your response, click Yes to continue deleting the lesson and No if your mind changes
4.5 VideosAll the users are allowed to view all the videos in the system provided that
it is not hidden by the administrator or the instruction. To watch videos, follow the steps below:

1. Click on Activities>Watch Videos from the navigation menu and select a video file that you want to view.
2. From the course page, select a video file that you want to watch.
4.5.1 Adding a Video File
Only the administrator and instructor are allowed to add a video file, students are only limited to watching such uploaded video file.

This feature is limited only to administrator and the instructor. Students are not allowed to edit nor delete a video file unless the file he/she is trying to edit/delete is of his/her own.

6.1 THE STAND-ALONE LMS
The stand-alone version of the LMS is a file with formats like .exe (for
personal computers running in Windows operating systems) and .swf (for
smartphones and tablets). The stand-alone version has no strict user access
level; anyone can run or open the file provided that a user has a copy of it. This
file can run with or without an internet connection provided that you have a Flash
Player (like Adobe Flash Player) installed on your device. To run the file,
foremost, you must have a copy of the stand-alone version of the LMS. Below
are steps on how to download the Stand-Alone version directly from its website:
6.1.1 Downloading the Stand-Alone Version
To download the file, open any web browser, type in the address bar:
www.joyfementira.com/dnsc/it14lms, login using your username and password to
gain an access on the system.

6.2 STARTING THE STAND-ALONE LMS
Once you have a copy of the stand-alone version of the LMS and a Flash
Player like Adobe Flash Player installed on your device, run or double click the
file that you have downloaded to get started, then the landing page will then
appear.
6.2.1 Landing Page
The landing page is the page that appears when a system is run or
executed. The landing page of this Learning Management System is shown as
shown below:

For the system to be more entertaining, user interactions are usually built
for users to get along with the system as well as interact with it.
For some instances, the system requires its user to click, drag, hover and other
interactions for it to work or load properly.

In selecting a module, click on a topic that you want to view or learn from
