APC reduces the standarddeviation typically by 50%.
The process can be run closerto the optimum constraints =>
Energy saving, reduction of offspecs or give away
Typical APC project ROI is less than 6 months.
Alarm management projects
The objective of an Alarm Management project is giving operators atool for efficient, correct and in-time notifications on DCS in case ofabnormal situations.
The value of improved alarmmanagement is to increase theoperator’s ability to determine what ishappening and provide a correct

happening and provide a correctresponse.
The “payback” of Alarm ManagementProjects is the need/must to make asafer plant management, since it iswell documented that inefficient alarmsystems affect the occurrence ofrelevant accidents.

Gasoline & diesel blending integrated systems
On line blending systems allows to reduce blends duration, give-away, re-blend and having small batches.
Solomon issued a report on Gasoline and Diesel QualityAnalysis in 2010 that showed that the “monetized differencein gasoline property give-away between the average refinerworldwide and the top 25% is estimated to be more the$0.55/bbl, with the difference between the bottom 25% andthe best performing 25% being more than $1.30/bbl.”

Energy Efficiency in a RefinerySARTEC has been certified as Energy Service Company (E.S.Co), in compliance with UNI CEIEN 11352: 2014 standard, providing a broad range of energy solutions including designand implementation of energy saving projects, energy analysis and energy consulting servicesfor the industrial and public sectors.
Sartec approach:1) Energy Audit, consisting of :
- collection of relevant data and information,- identification of the stages of the process and the most energy-consuming machines,- analysis of energy productions and consumptions, - identification of improvements and opportunities to apply energy-savings technologies.
| SARTEC 18
- identification of improvements and opportunities to apply energy-savings technologies.
2) Energy model and energy vectors identificationThe model covers all the processes and each energy source (electrical, thermal, steam, water, etc.). The goal is to create an energy flow inventory, of the different functional areas of the asset.
3) Energy performance indicator analysisFor each functional area an energy performance indicator can be derived. This number represents the quality of the energy consumption and iscompared to the reference energy indicator. This comparison allows toidentify any bad performances of a process, in order to propose dedicatedenergy efficiency improvements measures.
