Chapter 1: Requirements The following requirements are needed to run SAS University Edition in Amazon Web Services
(AWS) Marketplace:
• An Amazon Web Services (AWS) Marketplace account.
To sign in or create an account, open the AWS Marketplace at
https://aws.amazon.com/marketplace/
If you are new to AWS, see “Getting Started with AWS” at
https://aws.amazon.com/getting-started/?nc2=h_l2_cc
Note: When creating an account, you must provide credit card information to cover any
AWS charges. SAS University Edition has no cost and is eligible for the AWS free tier.
Information on the AWS free tier is available at
https://aws.amazon.com/free/
• One of the following web browsers:
• Microsoft Internet Explorer 9, 10, or 11.
• Mozilla Firefox 21 or later.
• Google Chrome 27 or later.
Note: Jupyter requires one of the following web browsers:
• Mozilla Firefox 21 or later.
• Google Chrome 27 or later.
Chapter 2: Using SAS University Edition for AWS Marketplace
Overview
To use SAS University Edition for AWS Marketplace:
1) Sign in to your AWS Marketplace account.
2) Open the SAS University Edition page.
3) Add SAS University Edition to your list of software subscriptions.
4) Start SAS University Edition.
Sign in to your AWS Marketplace account
1) Using a web browser, sign in to https://aws.amazon.com/marketplace/
Note: If you do not have an AWS Marketplace account, you can create one. If you are
new to AWS, see “Getting Started with AWS” at
https://aws.amazon.com/getting-started/?nc2=h_l2_cc
Open the SAS University Edition page
To open the SAS University Edition page:
1) In the AWS Marketplace, open the page for SAS University Edition at
https://aws.amazon.com/marketplace/pp/B00WH10IKW
2) Accept all the default values.
3) Click Continue to Subscribe. The Launch on EC2: SAS University Edition page opens.
Add SAS University Edition to your list of software subscriptions
The Launch on EC2: SAS University Edition page lists all of the available instance types for the
SAS University Edition. To add SAS University Edition to your list of software subscriptions:
1) On the 1-Click Launch tab, accept the default EC2 Instance Type value of
t2.micro
which qualifies for the free tier.
Note: If you select a different instance, you might incur AWS charges.
2) If you do not have a key pair, click Please create a new key pair to create a key pair.
3) Click Launch with 1-Click.
Note: If this is your first time launching in AWS, the button may display Accept
Software Terms & Launch with 1-Click.
Note: Deployment of the software might take several minutes.
Start SAS University Edition in Amazon Web Services
To start SAS University Edition in Amazon Web Services:
1) Under the Related Links heading on the confirmation page, click AWS Management
Console. The AWS Management Console opens and lists any instances of SAS University
Edition that are associated with your account.
2) From the table, select a running instance of SAS University Edition.
Note: If the selected instance of SAS University Edition displays the value Initializing in
the Status Checks column, wait until the initializing is complete before continuing.

3) From the Description tab, copy the public DNS for the selected instance of SAS
University Edition, then paste that public DNS in the address bar of a new browser
window.
4) When prompted for a user name and password:
a) Enter sasdemo as the user name.
b) From the Description tab, copy the instance ID for the SAS University Edition
and paste it into the Password field.
An example of an instance ID is i-d0w7a63b.
c) Click Log In. The SAS University Edition: Information Center window opens.
5) Click Start SAS Studio .
Start Jupyter Notebook in Amazon Web Services
To start Jupyter Notebook in SAS University Edition in Amazon Web Services:
1) Under the Related Links heading on the confirmation page, click AWS Management
Console. The AWS Management Console opens and lists any instances of SAS University
Edition that are associated with your account.
2) From the table, select a running instance of SAS University Edition.
Note: If the selected instance of SAS University Edition displays the value Initializing in
the Status Checks column, wait until the initializing is complete before continuing.
3) From the Description tab, copy the public DNS for the selected instance of SAS
University Edition, then paste that public DNS in the address bar of a new browser
window.
4) When prompted for a user name and password:
a) Enter sasdemo as the user name.
b) From the Description tab, copy the instance ID for the SAS University Edition
and paste it into the Password field.
An example of an instance ID is i-d0w7a63b.
c) Click Log In. The SAS University Edition: Information Center window opens.
5) Click start Jupyter Notebook.
NOTE: If a window appears warning of untrusted certificates, follow the instructions in
the window to continue.
The Jupyter Notebook login window opens.
6) From the Description tab, copy the instance ID for the SAS University Edition and paste
it into the Password field. An example of an instance ID is i-d0w7a63b.
7) Click Log in. The Jupyter Notebook window opens.

Shut Down SAS University Edition in AWS Marketplace
You can learn the status of your SAS University Edition instance from Your Software
Subscriptions page.
1) Open Your Software Subscriptions page at https://aws.amazon.com/marketplace/library/.
2) To stop or terminate SAS University Edition, click Manage in AWS Console.
3) From the console, select Actions > Instance State.
• Select Stop to save the current instance but stop it from running. When
prompted, click Yes, Stop.
• Select Terminate to delete the instance. No uploaded data persists. When
prompted, click Yes, Terminate.
Shut Down Jupyter Notebook in AWS Marketplace
You can learn the status of your Jupyter Notebook instance from Your Software Subscriptions
page.
1) Open Your Software Subscriptions page at https://aws.amazon.com/marketplace/library/.
2) To stop or terminate Jupyter Notebook, click Manage in AWS Console.
3) From the console, select Actions > Instance State.
• Select Stop to save the current instance but stop it from running. When
prompted, click Yes, Stop.
• Select Terminate to delete the instance. No uploaded data persists. When
prompted, click Yes, Terminate.
Restart SAS University Edition in Amazon Web Services
To restart SAS University Edition in Amazon Web Services:
• To restart a stopped instance of the SAS University Edition, select Actions > Instance
State > Start from the AWS console.
• To restart SAS University Edition if you terminated an instance, open Your Software Subscriptions page. Click Launch more software. On the Launch on EC2 for SAS
University Edition page, accept the default values and click Launch with 1-Click.
Restart Jupyter Notebook in Amazon Web Services
To restart Jupyter Notebook in Amazon Web Services:
• To restart a stopped instance, select Actions > Instance State > Start from the AWS
console.
• To restart Jupyter Notebook if you terminated an instance, open Your Software
Subscriptions page. Click Launch more software. On the Launch on EC2 for SAS
University Edition page, accept the default values and click Launch with 1-Click.
Chapter 3: Updating SAS University Edition SAS University Edition on AWS must be connected to the Internet in order to update SAS
University Edition on AWS.
To update SAS University Edition in Amazon Web Services:
1) Under the Related Links heading on the confirmation page, click AWS Management
Console. The AWS Management Console opens and lists any instances of SAS University
Edition that are associated with your account.
2) From the table, select a running instance of SAS University Edition.
Note: If the selected instance of SAS University Edition displays the value Initializing in
the Status Checks column, wait until the initializing is complete before continuing.
3) From the Description tab, copy the public DNS for the selected instance of SAS
University Edition, then paste that public DNS in the address bar of a new browser
window.
4) When prompted for a user name and password:
a) Enter sasdemo as the user name.
b) From the Description tab, copy the instance ID for the SAS University Edition
and paste it into the Password field. An example of an instance ID is i-d0w7a63b.
c) Click Log In. The SAS University Edition: Information Center window opens.
5) Click Download.
6) Click Yes.
7) Click Update.
8) Click Yes.

View the Installation Documentation
To view this document online within SAS University Edition:
1) Under the Related Links heading on the confirmation page, click AWS Management
Console. The AWS Management Console opens and lists any instances of SAS University
Edition that are associated with your account.
2) From the table, select a running instance of SAS University Edition.
Note: If the selected instance of SAS University Edition displays the value Initializing in
the Status Checks column, wait until the initializing is complete before continuing.
3) From the Description tab, copy the public DNS for the selected instance of SAS
University Edition, then paste that public DNS in the address bar of a new browser
window.
4) When prompted for a user name and password:
a) Enter sasdemo as the user name.
b) From the Description tab, copy the instance ID for the SAS University Edition and paste it into the Password field.
An example of an instance ID is i-d0w7a63b.
c) Click Log In. The SAS University Edition: Information Center window opens.
5) Click Installation Documentation to view the installation documentation.
Opening SAS Studio on a New Tab in the Same Web Browser Window
If you open SAS Studio, open SAS Information Center on a new tab in the same web browser
window, and then click Start SAS Studio, a window appears with the following message: Do you want to leave this site?
If you click Leave, your SAS Studio session opens in the current browser window. If you click
Stay, the window returns to the Studio window.
PROC HTTP Returns Message “ERROR: Could not find extension: (tkessl)”
When using an HTTPS URL with PROC HTTP, the following error message is returned:
ERROR: Could not find extension: (tkessl)
HTTPS and SFTP access are not supported in SAS University Edition.
