Projected Population
National City is the second oldest city in San Diego County and has a historic past with a vibrant community culture. Its most historic landmarks include Brick Row, Granger Music
Hall, the Santa Fe Rail Depot, and the Stein Family Farm. More recent expanded attractions in National City include the Westfield Plaza Bonita, the Mile of Cars, Kimball Park, the Bayshore Bikeway,
and of course National City’s gorgeous Marina District. National City strives to provide its citizens with the best possible living experience, and is constantly developing its city to fit the needs of the
people. National City’s prime location as well as its existing attractions make it ideal for accommodating expanding businesses.
ARTS Center A Reason To Survive (ARTS) has recently opened a center in the former National City library, providing free
arts education and collaboration in designing various projects throughout National City. In 2013, ARTS,
Olivewood Garden, and the City will join hands in building a community gathering place at Butterfly Park.
Bayshore Bikeway
This project will extend the Bayshore Bikeway to include a 1¾ mile section in National City. The proposed
addition will connect National City to Chula Vista, Coronado, and Imperial Beach by bicycle path. Construc-
tion on the Bayshore Bikeway will include:
Striping of bike/travel lanes Clearing and minor grading Modification of storm drains
Bike path pavement and signage 2 traffic signal modifications Construction of protected bicycle infrastructure
8th Street Corridor Smart Growth Revitalization This project will invigorate "Smart Growth" redevelopment and revitalize a critical transit and pedestrian cor-
ridor for the benefit of local businesses, residents, and visitors. The project will provide traffic calming
through corner bulb-outs, increase sidewalk space, and improve parking and access to local businesses and
transit. To further enhance the public realm, the project will also install new lighting, historic banners, way
finding signs, benches, bicycle racks, and other street furnishings.
Volkswagen Extension
The expansion of South Bay Volkswagen will consist of a two-story addition to the existing auto dealership.
The addition will be 7,583 square feet and consists of a new showroom, general office, and parts department.
Social Security Office
The new social security office will be converted from the existing Skate San Diego building on 700 East 24th
Street. The office building will be 12,540 square feet
