2019 Community Festival“Going Green”
This year, Our Lady’s Creation Care Council has been hitting it out of the park by incorporating recycling and composting into major events happening here at the Parish. The 2019 OLPH Community Festival will be no exception!
With over 60 volunteers dedicated to helping with the Zero Waste Initiative alone, they hope to prevent over 90% of all waste from the festival from ever seeing a landfill. To help aid their efforts, Our Lady Parish was awarded an Event Food Waste Recovery Grant from SWACO to help fund this effort and promote awareness of Event Food Waste Diversion techniques.
We want to extend our deepest gratitude to Sr. Nancy, Mark Siegrist, and all who assist the OLPH Creation Care Council for their hard work and dedication to this long and rewarding project! From finding compostable substitutes for all festival supplies, to working with food trucks and vendors to be more eco-friendly, your hard work will not go unnoticed.
Come Spend your Friday and Saturday night here at Our Lady, celebrating our community!

“Humility”– Kyle Callahan
“O come, let us worship and bow down, let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!”
(Psalm 95:6, RSV)
These beautiful words remind us of something that is rare in our society: true humility. When we kneel, we are acknowledging our place before our God. We are submitting ourselves to Him, and recognizing our own humble nature in the presence of the Triune Majesty. It is a wonderful act of worship.
Of the seven deadly sins, Pride leads the way as the number one offender. It is the polar opposite of the humility illustrated by this Scripture passage. It causes the downfall of many. Unfortunately, it is also highly regarded by the society in which we live. Any time we put ourselves before God, we are treading on dangerous ground. Pride is the sin of Lucifer, who challenged God… and was utterly defeated. Pride is the sin of Adam and Eve, coaxed to eat the forbidden fruit when they were told that it would make them like God. Pride is a sin that plagues most people, and is difficult in some cases to even detect in ourselves.
Now, this certainly needs a note of clarification. God WANTS us to love ourselves and take pride in our accomplishments, for we cannot truly love others until we understand how to love ourselves. Humility is not self-debasing. If it were, we would be disregarding the wonderful creation that God Himself made... each one of us. God loves us and wants us to see ourselves as He does… as fearfully and wonderfully made. BUT, in the presence of God’s greatness… our proper response is humility. To love and to serve Him, and our fellow brothers and sisters. To live as Jesus did. To minister to others.
“Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to care for orphans
and widows.” (James 1:27)

Foster Parents Needed
St. Vincent Family Center is responding to the most urgent crisis our community faces – the damaging effects of the opioid epidemic which has resulted in an increasing need for foster homes. The demand for compassionate foster parents is greater than ever, as children are being abandoned by addicted parents and have no place to go. St. Vincent Family Center is deeply committed to providing these children with a safe family and a loving home while their families heal.
St. Vincent partners every step of the way, from initial call to licensing. Most importantly, St. Vincent provides expert treatment to help parents foster a child and coach, encourage and support.
Families willing to learn more about what it means to be foster parents should contact St. Vincent Family Center at www.svfc.org or call (614) 940-6399.

She explains that she was once poor and had no chance of an education until she arrived at BB5. Now she wants to give back to other children who have no chance of an education.

The wagon will be wheeled around during the Festival on both Friday and Saturday and the winner will be drawn at 10 o’clock on Saturday evening. We will fill two wagons if we receive enough beer and wine and raffle one each night!!!If you have any questions, you may call Diane Walker at 614-271-7555 or email her at [email protected].
The RCIA: A Journey of Faith
Since Jesus invited His first followers to, “Come, follow me,” the image of journey has been used to describe Christian discipleship. For each of us, faith is a journey marked with moments of conversion along the way… we move from unbelief to initial faith, from sin to repentance, from painful isolation to the joyful experience of a loving community, from fear to love.
Faith, conversion, repentance, celebration and community – five basic elements that are present in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). The RCIA provides a setting where the journey of faith and moments of conversion can be celebrated within the local Church community. The purpose of the RCIA is literally “the making of Christians,” for as Tertullian in the 4th century wrote “Christians are made, not born.”
Do you know someone to invite into this journey? The first step is to contact Karen Cook at 614-871-5224 or [email protected]

Please call Bethesda Healing Ministry confidential phone lines (614-309-2651 or 614-309-0157) or visit our website at www.bethesdahealing.org.
