    RESOURCESIN CLOUD COMPUTING

Applications/services and basic functions provided in a Cloud are basedon the Virtual Resources which are abstracted from Physical Resources.

Computational resources are managed in terms of Virtual Machines(VMs)

    and/or Virtual Clusters (VCs) [1].

    4/17

To prepare VMs with appropriate resources and makethem ready for user applications Allocating resources to VMs to match the workloads

To manage changes in resources availability throughVMs restore or migration

    Goals: High resource utilization

    Energy efficiency

    reliability of services

    Low performance interference

    PROVISIONING

Resource Providers (RPs) Business companies, cluster managers and even hosts which

provide physical resources as IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service).

    Clients

Users/Application that are interested in resource provisioning. They do not have knowledge regarding or control over the

underlying data center infrastructures of the Clouds

Resource Brokers (RBs) [2] allocate resources for applications/services on multiple VMs in

order to fulfill requests of different Clients

manage resources provided by several RPs deploying VMs onseveral Physical Servers in the same Cloud, or even differentClouds.

resource allocation in order to obtain the most cost-effectiveresources

    PROVISIONING PROCESS ORGANIZATION

Ensures that requirements are validated against infrastructure providercapabilities

    Security policy,

    Available resources.

User asks infrastructure provider to create and expose a VM Set

Filing out a predefined request form.

    Complex element of the process

Captures knowledge about the application to be deployed,

Configuration templates applicable to different settings (port numbers, app args.),

    .

Tasks required of the provider to implement the logical representation

If the required resources are not available, the instantiation mustremain in the pending state until the problem is resolved.

Involves deployment of specific VMs with the required configuration of OSand application resources

    Automated middleware configuration and tuning,

    Networking services; VLAN, VPN,

Can be achieved by the OVF and OS/middleware provisioning tools.

    WHATIS VM SET TEMPLATE

    Using pre-installed VMs on cloud

    Pre-configured [1]

    Just need to interface

    Advantages

    - eliminates the installation and configuration costs

    - Faster provisioning

    - Reduces the efforts

    SOLUTION- CLOUD FEDERATION [3]

allows providers to trade their resources

    through federation regulations [3]

Outsource requests to other members of thefederation

    Advantage

    - Reduce chances of rejection of customer requests- Increase the profit of cloud service provider

    ADVANTAGES & DISADVANTAGES

    Advantages

    - Fast provisioning than manual process

    - Unlimited resources / Unlimited scalability

    - No downtime- Reduced overhead of upgrade & maintenance

    Disadvantages

    - Under provisioning / over provisioning [4]

    - Never comes in isolation
