9th & 10th September 2017
Vol. 138/09/2017
Responsorial Psalm
O that today you would listen to his voice! Harden not your hearts.
1. Come, ring out our joy to the Lord; hail the rock who saves us. Let us come before him, giving thanks,
with songs let us hail the Lord. R.
2. Come in; let us bow and bend low; let us kneel before the God who made us
for he is our God and we the people who belong to his pasture, the flock that is led by his hand. R.
3. O that day you would listen to his voice! ‘Harden not your hearts as at Meribah,
as on that day at Massah in the desert when your fathers put me to the test;
when they tried me, though they saw my work.’ R.

Several pews in the middle of the church will be reserved for students and their families. We seek for understanding as this may cause a slight inconvenience to some of our parishioners.

It has been a busy term for numerous sporting events with 4 of our Senior students winning the State Senior Girls Surfing Title and the Boys Bodyboarding State Title.
Our Yr 9 students participated in a one day Retreat held at the Parish Centre and facilitated by “Real Talk” which focussed on the theme of relationships and respect for self and others.
Secondary students in our 6 Houses have been finalising their House Service Projects which have included making canvas bags filled with toiletries for people who are homeless and cushions for Cancer patients at the Final Stanley Hospital.
Please keep our Yr 12 students in your prayers as they approach their final exams and final weeks of schooling. Prayers are also asked for our reconciliation candidates who will be participating in a Retreat next week. -Mrs Susan Bentley, Director of Ministry

World Suicide Prevention Day September 10th
Did you know that more people die by suicide than by accidents on the road? That in Australia one person dies by suicide every four hours? For each person who dies, there are ten people grieving plus others affected including friends, work colleagues, neighbours and others in the community? There are a number of agencies involved with Suicide prevention and yet this epidemic of suicide continues to affect many families. No family is immune. There is no suicide stereotype. Many of those who suicide, come from loving and stable families, are employed and leading outwardly happy lives. Some will attempt suicide several times but others will not and their death comes as a huge shock to their loved ones. We are each very clever at presenting a face to the world which masks the hurt we feel inside. We cannot easily see the depression or other mental illness of others. Not all people who suicide have been diagnosed with a specific mental illness and sometimes there are no signs of what is to come. Please do not use the “C” word so what can you do to help ease the situation? One thing you can start doing immediately is to stop using the phrase “Commit suicide or Committed Suicide”. This is very outdated and incorrect phraseology. At one time Suicide was indeed both a sin and a crime. This is no longer the case. For many years now the church has shown the compassion needed and acknowledged that a person is not in their right mind when they end their life. Suicide was also
removed many years ago from the criminal code. So when you hear someone use the phrase “committed suicide” gently point out that this is not correct and it can add to the stigma of suicide. R.U.Ok day is on 14 September. On this day you can seek out a friend or family member who has been depressed or has had some kind of loss. They may have been bereaved recently or have lost their job. Just reach out the hand of friendship and ask R.U.Ok?Margot McAllister, P.R.Manager TCF Mandurah, Member of Suicide Prevention Australia, Lived experience Network, Member of Australian Centre for Grief & Bereavement.
