    Dear Parents,

Welcome to a great school year at Tejeda! I want to take this opportunity in this months

WolfTracks Newsletter to revisit and extend the message I communicated to you back in June

in my first parent letter. When I learned that I was becoming a T-Wolf leader, images of

excellence resounded in me; not about me, but about Tejeda and everything for which it

stands. I knew that I was joining a team of excellent teachers, students, staff, community, and

parents. I also knew that within this already established culture of excellence still lies a future

full of potential to become great!

Even though we are a middle school, our vision must be to continue to prepare our children to

have a competitive advantage upon graduation in a global world that continues to change.

Our focus is clearly aligned with Dr. Gottardys vision for Transforming the Future. At Tejeda,

we began this transformation back in June when I met my new leadership team. To facilitate

this transformation, I strongly believe that we must build leadership capacity in every leader

at Tejeda, including our students. So, throughout the summer, we reflected on our priorities,

our goals, campus instructional plan to improve student success, student clubs and

organizations, and the structures and processes we currently have in place. We have already

begun to make adjustments that will facilitate this transformation and will foster a culture of

greatness. When I met my faculty on the first day of Staff Development, I shared this

statement: my role as principal is climate control. My job is to identify the gifts, talents andskills in every teacher and staff member and to bring those gifts together in ways that will

unite and uplift Tejeda from excellent to great. As teachers, our role is to facilitate learning.

We must create and sustain a climate in every classroom in which every student actively

    engages in learning every day.

But what does it mean when we speak of Transforming the Future? I do not know the

complete answer to this question, yet; but I am certain we must come together as a community

of learners to share our ideas, concerns, and questions in order to achieve our vision. I

believe that our students must have an active voice and be proactive in their education, so Iwill be hosting a monthly Principals Luncheon with every student club and organization

leader throughout the school year. I will also invite students who may not be involved in a

club, but are leaders among their peers in different ways. *

Finally, the next step in Dr. Gottardys process for Transforming the Future is taking his

message to you and the public through six community meetings beginning on September 16.

The following is a list of these dates, locations, and times. He is inviting parents, students, and

community members to these meetings to brainstorm ways to improve education. I encourage

all of you to attend one of these meetings. In an effort to provide enough food and drink,

please RSVP at www.neisd.net . Look for the Transforming the Future button.

WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) is an innovative program of the

National Center for Fathering focusing on the prevention of violence in our

nations schools by using the positive influence of fathers and father-figures

    for a two-fold purpose:

    1) to provide an unobtrusive presence in the schools, and

    2) to be a positive and active role-model for students at their school.

WATCH D.O.G.S. was founded by Jim Moore, a concerned father who choseto take action in response to a 1998 middle-school shooting in Jonesboro,

AR. WATCH D.O.G.S. serves to inspire and equip men to be the involved

fathers, grandfathers and father-figures their students need.

Did you know an hour of your volunteer time in 2011 was worth $21.91?

According to the Corporation for National and Community Service,

Charitable organizations can use this estimate to quantify the enormous

value volunteers provide. The estimate helps acknowledge the millions of

individuals who dedicate their time, talents, and energy to making a

    difference.

Apply to volunteer by going to www.neisd.net. Follow the Volunteers linkin the red parent box, then go to Online Criminal History Check. The

Code of Conduct will appear. Please read and click Agree. You will

then be prompted to fill out the criminal history check form and click

    Submit Release.

Please allow one week for processing, then check with Tejeda for your

Volunteer Identification Number (VIN). If you provided an email address,

you will receive an email with your VIN. No computer? No problem asTejeda can provide you with a paper application.

    Virtual Volunteer (V-Volunteer)

Once you are approved to volunteer, you can use Virtual Volunteer for

logging your volunteer hours that you do at home or after school. If you

are volunteering at school, the check in system will count your hours for you.

However, it is important you ask to be logged out when you leave. If log

out is not completed, the system automatically will log you out at 5 p.m.,but youll only be credited with one volunteer hour. To count your virtual

volunteer hours, call the NEISD volunteer office, 407-0309, or email Brooke

Pate at [email protected] . They will connect you to the volunteer system

with your email address and give you a password. You will then be able

to connect to the v-volunteer system and more accurately represent your

    hours.
