Sunday ReflectionLive Simply, So That Others May Simply Live The parable of Lazarus and the rich man speaks to our hearts. In some ways, we may be able to identify with either of the individuals. In any event, we are asked to place ourselves into the scene and to ask some difficult questions if we identify ourselves with the rich man. How do we share the gifts and richness that we have? Are we blind to the needs of those who (although are not at our feet) are in front of our eyes, at our door, or on the street where we live? If we see ourselves as the poor man, do we see a hope for our resurrection into new life through and during our

suffering? We all have a part to play in the drama of the spiritual journey, and Jesus calls us to the same happy ending into the Kingdom. How well do we respond to those needy at our door?

Alas for those who are at ease in Zion . . . but are not grieved over the ruin of Joseph! (Amos 6. 1, 6)Hunger is the best seasoning. Necessity is the mother of invention. What does it take for the rich man to notice Lazarus? Throughout his life, the rich man never gave a second thought to Lazarus lying hungry and sick at his gate. He was blinded by his comfort and affluence to the need around him. It is only the heat of the fires of hell that open his eyes. What will it take for you to notice Lazarus?

Fr. Kevin’s Cluttered Desk St. Teresa of Calcutta is quoted as saying, “There are many people in the world dying for a piece of bread but there are many more dying for a little love.” In the early church the Christians were noted for how they loved one another. The command of our Lord is to love God above all things and love each other as he has loved us. So why, in our world today, is there such a need for love? I remember being in a grade 9 class answering questions and one of the students wanted to know what Jesus meant by loving our neighbour. This discussion around the question came to mind as I thought of Mother Teresa’s words of the need for love. Part of the discussion was about what does love look like? Another part was on what love really is. Working with the children in our schools drives this home for me often. I will be standing at the door after Mass giving high-fives to the children and there will be one who ducks under my hand to give me a hug. There will be another who comes up giving me a funny look and I will pick that child up, and with a smile on their face they will tell their friends, “I knew he would do that.” There are other children who will just walk by, still others who will smile but no high-five. There are others who will group hug me. Yes there is a need in our world, our community, our church, for more love, but figuring out what it should look like and what it is, that is the hard part, but it begins with a simple lesson from Mother Teresa, “Just love them”. Acknowledge them, honor them, respect them, care for them. Love them with no expectation. Let the love of Christ flow through you to them, just love them, be it the children, your neighbour, your community, your church members. Seek the good in all, speak only well of each other, carry no grudge, release all anger, envy and jealousy, just love them. What a wonderful world it would be if we would just learn to be more respectful and honouring of each other.

Peace Fr. Kevin

P.S. Thank you to the organizers and volunteers of the Parish Golf Tourney. A fun day was had by all and God smiled on my team but we still only came tied for 5th place. Thank you to Picture Butte Golf Club for having us and providing a great meal.

P.P.S. Thank you to the organizers and volunteers of the Parish Picnic. Many were fed by the Word, by the Eucharist, and by hamburgers, hot dogs and all the trimmings. Thank you to all who brought salads, desserts and other assorted goodies.

The 5:00 Mass at Assumption desperately needs greeters and ushers. We currently only have 3 greeters for

that Mass. If you would like to help please call the parish office.
