YoM KippUr ExplANATorY sErvicE iN ThE shUl MArqUEE:Have you ever found that the words of prayer don’t really move you? Enjoy a dedicated Explanatory Service in which you can explore the depth and experience the spirituality of the Yom Kippur prayers. This will be led by Rabbi Dov Cowan of the JLE at the following times: Kol Nidrei Night at 8pm; Yom Kippur Mussaf at 2pm; and Neilah at 6.45pm.
ThE Big DEBATE! YoM KippUr 2.00pM iN ThE shUl hAll:This Yom Kippur have your say on whether acts of martyrdom are considered Holy Death or Religious Extremism. Suicide bombers were not the first to contemplate sacrificing their lives for a perceived holy cause. God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac to test his belief in Him. This is a central theme of the High Holiday services. How does Jewish and contemporary thought deal with such religious acts? What’s your view?
cATch A BrEAK, cATch A…Yom Kippur 3.30pm The Yom Kippur afternoon break is famous for the engaging Q & A session which takes place at the main shul. Alternatively you can choose to relax with a shiur at the Britannia Hotel.
JoNAh?! YoM KippUr 5pM iN ThE shUl hAll: This is amongst the most dramatic and meaningful books in Jewish literature. You can hear it read in shul or join David Turner for insights and reflections which will enable you to really get to grips with this event.

RafI ZaRuM
Was Malki Tzedek the first priest of God or a rogue king? Come and hear how he faced Avraham but was found lacking. A key character in both Judaism and Christianity.... We will study various midrashim to understand how this character has been used and abused.
Discover a forgotten biblical character who challenged the
rabbis to really understand God’s essence. Enoch’s existence
spawned books and books of apocryphal stories about
angels and heavenly matters, and encouraged Maimonides
to redefine the nature of idolatry.

frequently leaves one questioning if we are getting it right. How do we know if we are and what do we do if not? This session will explore, from a Jewish perspective, this and other relevant issues that
affect the life of the hard working and hard playing single person. The session is not
simply a lecture but an interactive discussion and will include an
open Q&A at the end.
