Basic SubstancesAccording to the art. 23, paragraph 1 of the reg. (EC) n. 1107/2009, a Basic Substance:

• is not a potentially dangerous substance;• does not possess an intrinsic ability to cause harmful effects on the endocrine

system or neurotoxic or immunotoxic effects;• is not used primarily for phytosanitary purposes, but is useful for this purpose;• is not placed on the market as a phytosanitary product.• In general: Basic Substance is considered an active substance that meets the criteria of “food product” as defined in art. 2 of Reg. CE n.178 / 2002 on food safety.

Compared to plant protection products:

• a Basic Substance is approved for an unlimited period for all of Europe;• no registration of the single product (or mixture of products) is required;• there are no specific MLRs (except in rare cases);• the product label, if used for phytosanitary purposes, must indicate that the

Basic Substance contained is approved in accordance with Art. 23 of the Reg. (EC) n. 1107/2009.

Salix Cortex SKL is a totally natural dehydrated vegetable matrix, obtained by micronized willow bark, a common tree in Europe, Asia and North America.

It’s rich in various compounds, in particular polyphenols and salicylic acid. Its use is consolidated in Organic and Biodynamic farming practices as a support to self-defense mechanisms of culture against mycotic adversities. The dehydrated powder gives the product a longer shelf life.

It is an approved Basic Substance with fungicidal properties under agricultural EU pesticide regulation (Regulation (EC) no 1107/2009) since 2015.

The following procedure is recommended for the use of the product: 1) 200 g of Salix cortex infused in 30 L of water at 80°C for 2 hours. 2) After cooling down, a filtration is recommended, adjusting pH to 6.2. 3) Proceed the dilution by 3 with water (90 liter total).

Currently, its uses are approved for arboriculture and viticulture.

An initial use extension to allow nurseries to use it as a plant growth regulator is being evaluated by the EU regulatory assessment organisation.

Salix cortex helps cuttings to root, due to its indole butyric acid content, which is a growth hormone (plant growth regulator) in the auxin family and generally chemically synthesized for this purpose. Recently, fungicide usages for the vegetable and fruit market (tomatoes, berries and kiwi) have been submitted to the EU Commission for evaluation.

Equisetum arvense, better known as “horsetail”, is a shrubby plant belonging to the family of the Equisetaceae and that we can easily find throughout Europe. Equisetum arvense has long been known in the Organic and Biodynamic agriculture, having a preventive effect on fungal diseases of plants. It’s authorized in horticultural, fruit trees, red fruits (berries), vine and its effectiveness has been demonstrated in the prevention and control of Mildew, Alternaria and Rust

diseases. Its effectiveness is based on its stimulating action on defense mechanisms of plants thanks to the high content in organic Silicon bound to proteins and salts rich in Potassium and Magnesium, along with saponoids, flavonoids and tannins (equisetonine).

It preventes diseases, strengthens cell walls in the plant and limits treatment with synthetic chemical products, reducing the level of toxic content in crops and harvests.

Urtica dioica is one of the most commonly-used medicinal plants in the world, due to their health-enhancing qualities, because of the high content of nutritive substances.

Nettle extract provides plants with a nutritional input high in chlorophyll, flavonoids, tannins, mineral salts (iron, sulfur, manganese, calcium, nitrogen, potassium) and carotenes. It also provides natural hormones, which contribute to the vitality of the plant where the extract is applied. At the same time, it is rich in formic and histamine acids, which is released through a low temperature infusion or cold maceration.

Nettle extract, obtained by maceration of two varieties of nettle (Urtica dioica and Urtica urens) protects plants and increases chlorophyll synthesis in them, thus improving their photosynthetic efficacy.

It is especially suitable for fruit trees, vegetables and vine crops.

It’s used as insecticide, acaricide and fungicide, for Spray applications or Soil covering (mulch) by the European Union. It is a formulation capable to control aphids and other insects, as well as important fungal diseases.

Soy Lecithin is a natural substance obtained from optimized mixtures of oils in an emulsifiable concentration. The active ingredients composing it are compatible with the environment and are harmless to humans. It leaves no residue and is commonly used for animal and human nutrition.

In agriculture Soy Lecithin has a remarkable preventive and fungistatic action especially on some pathogenic fungi because it closes the main penetration pathways. It effectively controls pathologies such as: anthracnose, scab, powdery mildew, peach laef curl, brown rot of

stone fruits and downy mildew. It renforces and gives elasticity to the cell walls avoiding various physiopathologies like: cracking, sunburn, etc in fruits. Used near the harvest, it gives hardness to the fruits, brilliance and color, increasing their quality and organoleptic characteristics. In post-harvest it extends fruits and vegetables shelf life.

Concerning the new European regulations about the reduction of Copper in agriculture, Soy Lecithin can be used combined with low rates of Copper-based products as a synergist and as a fungicide enhancer.

Sunflower oil is the non-volatile oil pressed from the seeds of sunflower (Helianthus annuus); it is commonly used in food and in cosmetic formulations as an emollient. The expressed oil has light amber color with a mild flavor. The oil contains a rich content of vitamin E.

Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2016/1978 of 11 November 2016 approves the Basic Substance Sunflower oil in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council concerning the placing of plant protection products on the market.

SKL Sunflower oil reduces the growth of fungi and reduces spores germination on treated surfaces.

It modified and devitalises the structure of the cell membrane. It has a fungistatic action: it stops the growth of fungi rather than killing pathogens.

SKL Sunflower oil is a highly refined oil and can control insect vectors of plant viruses, mites and fungal pathogens.

Period of treatment should be avoided during flowering time or with high temperature.

Mustard seeds powder is obtained from Sinapis alba (Brassica alba), Brassica juncea and Brassica nigra. It’s been approved as Basic Substance form the Institut Technique de l’Agriculture Biologique (ITAB) and from the European Commission.

Mustard seeds powder is a yellowish or light, brownish-yellow powder, odourless, mildly pungent and acrid to the taste. It’s guaranteed a high food grade quality.

Fructose, or fruit sugar, is a simple ketonic monosaccharide found in many plants, where it is often bonded to glucose to form the disaccharide sucrose.

Fructose is found in honey, tree and vine fruits, flowers, berries, and most root vegetables and commercially, it is derived from sugar cane, sugar beets, and maize.

Fructose is authorized as Basic Substance, it is extracted from plants and it is commonly used as human food; it can be used to control fruit borers like the Codling moth in apples (Cydia pomonella).

Whey milk is a waste product which received great attention during last years. In 2016 the European Commission, after many studies and researches, included Whey Milk in the category of Basic Substances, ensuring the satefy of this substance for human health and for the environment.

Researches show the effectiveness for:

• The control of powdery mildew: various components of milk produce oxygen radicals, contributing to the reduction of severity of powdery mildew on treated leaves. Whey Milk causes the hyphae of

Uncinula necator to collapse and damage conidia within 24 h of treatment.

• Seeds treatment: In field trials Whey Milk was able to control seed borne infection by Common Bunt (Tilletia tritici) in wheat without decreasing the germination vigour of the treated seeds. Whey Milk is also able to control Stem Smut (Urocystis occulta) in rye.

• improve the resistance of plants against harmful organisms;• protect plants from damage not caused by pests. These products cannot be

Okyzeol is made of Zeolite (cabasite); in agriculture and floriculture, it essentially works like a sponge, coating leaf surface with a thin and uniform layer of dust.

Tannisol is entirely made of Chestnut Tannin, a natural substance able to stimulate and activate plant defense mechanisms.

Chestnut Tannin is a polyphenolic molecule with complexing properties that stimulates the growth and the development of the root system of plants and also beneficial soil microflora, limiting the proliferation of phytopathogenic agents. Thanks to its acid pH, it creates an inhospitable environment to Nematodes.

Tannisol is entirely made of Chestnut Tannin, a natural substance able to stimulate and activate plant defense mechanisms.

Chestnut Tannin is a polyphenolic molecule with complexing properties that stimulates the growth and the development of the root system of plants and also beneficial soil microflora, limiting the proliferation of phytopathogenic agents. Thanks to its acid pH, it creates an inhospitable environment to Nematodes.

Tannisol is also an effective repellent against predators and parasites, because it decreases the digestibility of food or make it repellent, acting on the flavor (astringency) and on the hardness of the tissues.

Finally, it is a powerful antibiotic, capable to defend plants from several fungal pathogens, inhibiting the hydrolytic enzymes (cellulases, pectinases, xylanases) necessary to penetrate plant tissues.

Lecinol 90 is composed by Soy Lecithin; it’s main action is to make plants and fruits more resistant to numerous physopathies.

Lecithin is a generic term to designate any group of yellow-brownish fatty amphiphilic substances, occurring in animal and plant tissues, which attract both water and fatty substances (so are both hydrophilic and lipophilic). They are used for smoothing food textures, emulsifying, homogenizing liquid mixtures, and repelling sticking materials. It has low solubility in water, but is an excellent emulsifier.

Okynol SM is made of Potassium soap, commonly called “Marseille soap” that is a salt of long chain carboxylic acids (fatty acids). It is obtained by saponification with potash of vegetable oils extracted from the seeds of various plants (canola, sunflower, soy, etc). Potassium soap, combined with insecticides, works as wetting and adhesive agent, allowing the homogeneous diffusion of the Active Ingredient (A.I.) through the mixture.

Okynol SM (at 2 - 3% concentration) has an indirect action against Sooty mold, because it causes the dissolution of the honeydew produced by the insects, so it is an effective and inexpensive anti-aphid.

It can also be an aid against the invasion of Aleuroids and gray cabbage Aphid and it is effective in controlling scale insects because their chitinous protection is dissolved by the action of the soap; these insects, without protection, die for dehydration.

Okynol SM (at 0,2 - 0,5% concentration) helps the tackiness of the most plant protection products, reinforcing their action. The use combined with the copper-based product should be avoided.

To prepare the mixture, it is recommended to dissolve Okynol SM in tepid water.

Oky Gold is the result of a chemical reaction between hydroxide and specific vegetable origin fatty acids, which are the main constituents of this product.

MicorrizeMycorrhizae consist in a symbiotic association between soil fungi and non-lignified roots of plants. The Endomycorrhizae are arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi: they settle on the cortical part of the root penetrating the cells and filling the intercellular spaces without ever invading the central cylinder. Inside the cells can form ovoid structures called vesicles and branched structures called arbuscules.

BORDEAUX MIXTURE

METHOD OF PREPARATION

In agriculture Copper Sulphate is mixed with Calce Fiocco SKL to prepare Bordeaux Mixture on your own.

Preparing Bordeaux Mixture with Copper Sulphate and Lime, allows to make a perfect formulation, according to personal needs.

Classical preparation of Bordeaux Mixture consists in:

WARNINGS

We suggest to use the mixture during the same day of the preparation, in order to have a complete antifungal activity.

One of the most common problem during the preparation is represented by the flocculation and the low mixture stability.

The mixture can easily precipitate, so it’s necessary an appropriate shacking.

To increase solubility is possible to reverse the procedure, so dissolve Copper in a small amount of warm water, dissolve the Lime and then add the Copper solution, but pratically this is a less comfortable way to operate.

An iron deficiency causes the typical disease called “ferric chlorosis” that produces internerval chlorosis, with progression from the apex (young leaves), to the base (older leaves).

Radi-Cal is a liquid fertilizer with a high content of Calcium complexed with ammonium lignosulphonates, resulting from wood cellulose extraction process. Unlike other chelating agents, Lignosulfonates don’t destroy the structure of cell walls during absorption.

Its use is an established practice on Fruit, Erbaceous and Horticultural crops.

Bioblend is an universal product, ideal for all crops to prepare the soil adding organic matter. Best period to use it are:

• In pre-sowing: nel caso si voglia restituire vitalità biologica al profilo del suolo dei primi 15 - 20 cm (soprattutto con terreni di riporto e/o ricchi di calcare) predisporre la distribuzione del prodotto circa 20 gg prima, con interramento a 15 - 20 cm.

• Pre-Orchard installation: al momento dello “scasso” oppure al momento dell’impianto in “buca” pianta per pianta, evitando però di porre le radici a diretto contatto con il prodotto (che va pre-miscelato con terriccio torboso o terra). Successivamente irrigare.

Biophos P28 is a fertilizer allowed in Organic Farming, based on natural soft superphosphate. It’s extracted by fossilized marine deposits, mainly composed of: corals, bird guano, fish remains, algae and other minerals, with a high content of Phosphorus, Calcium, Magnesium, Silicon and microelements, without chemicals addition.

The product is then finely grounded up to 90% of the particles over 200 mesh, increasing contact surface with roots and increasing the availability of the elements composing it.

Humic acids are natural substances produced by microbial biodegradation of Organic Matter (vegetable or animal).
