JACQUES
My name is Samantha Burnsed. My passion is art. Anything and everything that has to do with art I love. I’ve been drawing since I was about fifteen years old. When I was in kindergarten, my art teacher told my mother that I would be
an artist when I grew up. I took AutoCAD courses in Greater Lowell Technical High School, in Lowell, Massachusetts, and I loved it. Ever since then I learned more
and more about Architecture and design. I loved the idea that one day I might stand in front of a beautiful building; when I look
up and see that it was my creation-that has to be a greatest feeling in the world.
Pause SAMANTHA BURNSED
JACQUES
A pause can be a moment in space and time where some-one’s ideas flourish. That’s a basis of this project. This was my first project of my sophomore year in Clemson
University. We were instructed to envision what was within this moment in time. The idea that Michelangelo could
look at a block of marble and just start cutting away; in his head, he could already envision what he wanted to carve.
The first part was to draw boxes with a point, line and plane. There was to be five 3’’x3’’ boxes that we drew in with our ideas. We also were instructed to come up with an algorithm that matched out drawings and explained
how our drawings were to form. Then we needed to con-struct 3D models of them with Google Sketch up 8. Once we finished, the final part was to design our real models.
We were instructed to use a 6’’x6’’ space. My whole Idea of this pause was to use triangles as my planes,
wooden dowels for my lines and my points where were the triangles corners met with objects or space.

Final Fantasy: Advent ChildrenTetsuya Nomura
The movie Final Fantasy: Advent Children was the movie I chose for this project. This movie was full of colors and emo-tions. There was a lot of focus on the artwork of the people would digitally
composed this movie. But there was also a touch of dramatic calmness within the entire movie. Most of the scenes I chose
were emotional, and dramatic. There were some that had a touch of calmness within
as well. There were six scenes chosen and I interpreted them into my physical model. I chose to represent the video’s
calmness with the golden wire. The frames were the dramatic scenes and the objects between I tried to emphasize the
emotions within.
Threshold/ Surface SAMANTHA BURNSED
JACQUES
In this project we took spray paint (white and black) and sprayed crinkled aluminum foil. With that we scanned the foil into the computer and converted into a plane with the help of Goggle Sketch up and Rhino programs. From there we needed to place an object above, below, or in the surface. My favorite object was this box seemingly floating above the surface. There are only three poles holding them up. The balance and physics needs to be correct to keep the giant box balanced. I love the uncomfortable yet simplicity of it.

JACQUES
The purpose of this project was to combine the first three projects into one new project. I used the moments of Pause (Project 1A) for the triangles and the shapes of my model. Project 1B: Itinerary and Project 1C:
Threshold were combined to create the base of my model and the remaining moments. We also created a Haiku poem, to describe our song that we listened to and to describe our emotions and thoughts of the song. Our model was to reflect our song and my song chosen was “Tears in the Rain”; a song from a video game
called Kingdom Hearts.

process
The above picture is of my first model. I tried to describe my song
to the best of my abilities. The song hade a variety of ups and downs with
the guitar strums that I felt as if the strums represented the arrows and
triangles as dramatic emotion within the song. The second photo is my
second study model and I was getting closer to the dramatic feel I wanted
in my model. But there was still a moment in the song where there was a sense of calmness. Which I tried to
represent with the one golden wire. The third photo is the end result of my process. The golden wire needed the
right place to be placed in and I felt I found it. Then I also added more to
my triangles and dramatic-ness with a directional curve and roofing system
with my free standing triangles.
Portfolio CaseSAMANTHA BURNSED
JACQUES
The Portfolio case project was my favorite of this first semester/sophomore year and my last of this first semester. I decided to interpret all of the projects of this semester into the scheme of my portfolio case. After all, my portfolio case was going to hold my portfolio of this semester; why not let it represent what it’s carrying? I wanted to keep
my triangles within my scheme and I liked that all of my projects contained dramatic features along with some sort of unity or calmness. The calmness or unity was always a bit “hidden” so I figured I would “hide” my portfolio. I
wanted to create a sort of stand for my portfolio case to sit on while my portfolio was hidden from view; unless you read my model you won’t know were it is; nor how to get to it.
Look at the scale-figure-man and the tip of the last arrow on the base. Push them down. There will be a bottom piece that comes down.
Inside with be the portfolio. You pull out the portfolio and place in on it’s custom stand on the base of this portfolio case.
Then you go back to the bottom that appeared and put some pressure against it and the base. It will lock itself in place and now you can view the Portfolio on it’s stand!

The Murcia City Hall Project was the first project we got into on our Spring 2012 semester/sophomore. This project was simple;
to study anything and everything of a building. Each student was chosen a different building to study and mine was the
Murcia City Hall. We started with focusing on floor plans and elevations. I also made a site plan and an analysis of the front
elevation of the building. This was a very enjoyable project and on of the first projects that opened me up to what REALLY
begins to happen in the architecture world.First Floor

After the Fountain Inn Renovations project where we studied the area of Fountain Inn, SC USA and made a general Master Plan of the area with our partners; we worked on our first step to completing this Master Plan. My partner chose a cooking building and I chose a Hotel. The name of the town, Fountain Inn, sounded like a hotel name-thus I knew to name the hotel the Fountain Inn Hotel. I studied and contemplated many different aspects of this hotel. I also focused on making the hotel not only a hotel but a civil space for the town to cherish and to use as a unique and remu-nerable building. With the help of the Farmer’s Market in Fountain Inn-many weekends the Farmer’s Market would use the lobby and outside areas as additional booth space to sell their products. The Ball Room would be used for min town events like weddings/proms/ etc. And the hotel happens to be placed right next for my partner’s building; the hotel has no breakfast or lunch areas on purpose for the people who stay in the hotel to get out into the downtown Fountain Inn area and explore around while getting some food.

OUNTAIN INN HOTEL
The Fountain Inn Hotel of Fountain Inn, SC is going to be an essential starting piece to my master plan for this town. There will be more jobs on
the market because of this hotel. There will me more “things” to do because of this hotel; family gatherings, events in the ballroom, movies to the downtown area, and MUCH more. This hotel will bring a nice touch to
Fountain Inn and bring more people from the outside-in and give the small town some “back bone”. This hotel will also become a great node for
this town. All in all, the beginning to this master plan is the Fountain Inn Hotel of Fountain Inn, SC.
