Room 6 Assembly
Thank you to Mr Allen’s year 4 class (room 6) for hosting the first all of campus assembly for 2017
on Friday 17th February. The class acquitted themselves extremely well on and off the stage and
were proud to present their entertaining skits for us all. The students performed their announcing
and general running of the assembly competently. Congratulations!
Parking on Prosser St
Parents please note that the City of Bunbury Rangers regularly survey the parking situation on
Prosser St at the end of the school day. The option of collecting your children from this street at
the Northern side of the school is associated with some risk. I would highly recommend the much
safer option of using the pickup / drop off facility at the back or southern side of the campus or
alternatively at the Western carpark along Queen St.
Swimming Carnival ( Thursday 9th March )
Permit Notes for all students from years 4-6 to compete in this year’s carnival will be distributed
this week. Optional training for this event has been generously offered by Mrs Hutton on
Wednesday & Friday mornings from 6.00 am at the South West Sports Centre. Pool entry is
$ 4.50. Parents, any offer of any assistance for this year’s event would be warmly welcomed and
appreciated. If you are able to offer an hour or two of your time please contact our Physical
Education teacher Mrs Hutton at school. As always, we look forward to and welcome your support
for your children at our first major sporting event of 2017 from 12.30 pm at the South West Sports
Centre. Programmes will be sent home with all competitors a few days before this sporting
fixture. Results from our carnival will enable the school to form a team to compete at the annual
interschool at the same venue on Thursday 16th March.
School Chaplain
I am delighted to announce Mrs Cathryn Cox as our newly appointed chaplain. Mrs Cox brings to
the school a wealth of life and vocational experience that will be of great benefit to our school in
her role as our chaplain. Mrs Cox is due to commence her duties at SBPS around week 6 of this
term. We welcome Cathryn into our school community .
Jewellery worn by students
Parents are reminded that under the dress code of the school (as determined by the school
board) students when and where possible, wear school uniform on all school days unless advised
of alternative arrangements for a special event. In the interests of the health and safety of all stu-
dents, it is advised that all long hair is tied back and that dangling earrings and rings on fingers
not be worn by students. Stud earring and sleepers are permitted. The wearing of nail polish is
not recommended. Continued page 2

Core Values & Virtues
At the last assembly I encouraged all students to work on adopting the fortnightly virtue and schools core values to help them
with their own personal development. Obviously, academic goals are important for all students to achieve. Understanding of the
school’s core values and demonstrating and building on their repertoire of Virtues can assist our children to be positive, tolerant,
resilient and cooperative citizens of the school and for the future.
S.B.P.S. Core Values
Willing to learn and being the best I can be
Feeling good about myself
Showing respect and concern for others
Being responsible and doing “The Right Thing”
Caring for my school & environment

Virtues Program
Meaning
Loyalty is staying true to someone. It is standing up for
something you believe in without wavering. It is being
faithful to your family, country, school, friends or ideals –
when the going gets tough as well as when things are
good. When you are a loyal friend, even if someone
disappoints you, you still hang in there with them.
Loyalty is staying committed.
Signs Of Success
You are practising loyalty when you
Stand up for people and ideas you believe in
Are a faithful friend through good times and bad
Don’t allow loyalty to lead you into trouble
Don’t let others come between you and your friends
Are loyal to yourself

Tennis:
Congratulations to the 16 students who represented South Bunbury PS at the Academy Plate tennis tournament on
Monday 20th February. The students played extremely well and an enjoyable (exhausting) day was had by all. This
was the first year South Bunbury had entered teams in the competition with two of our four teams finishing 3rd and 4th
in Pool A. Last year the school received tennis equipment through a grant and since then many students have been
enjoying playing at recess and lunch times. Thjs was a big step up for our competitors and they displayed great
sportsmanship on the day.
A MASSIVE thank you to our parent helpers on the day: Karina Regali, Simone Lowe, Brad Martindale, Jaymie & Lisa
Hall and Jenna Davis who helped transporting students and with scoring on the day. These events could not go ahead
with out your support.

Food allergies are becoming increasingly common among children, and this year there could be student/s in your child’s classroom who have severe allergy to nuts. Any exposure to these items, even a tiny amount, could be potentially very serious and life threatening for these children We do ask our students and families to help make the school environment safer for all students, by following these simple suggestions: • Please avoid sending any foods that contain nuts, such as peanut butter or nutella sandwiches, muesli or health bars with nuts,to school with your child. • Please always contact the Classroom Teacher before sending any food for sharing with the class for special celebrations like birthdays, Easter or Christmas. • Please remind your child never to share his/her food and drinks with other students. • Please wash your child’s face and hands thoroughly before they leave home, especially if your child has eaten nuts prior to coming to school. • Please remind your child often to wash their hands before and after eating We greatly appreciate your support for children with allergies. Together we can make a difference.
Thank your for helping to support our school community.
