Catholic Home Missions Appeal The Catholic Home Missions Appeal will take place this weekend. One way that this Appeal works to support mission dioceses here at home is by supporting seminarian formation in poor dioceses. The blessing of seminarians places a financial burden on these dioceses, which educate each seminarian at a cost of $35,000-$40,000 per year. Your support is needed for these young men, so that they can return to serve their parishes. Please strengthen the Church at home by making a generous gift to next week's Appeal.
Thank You! All 30 members of the Honduran Mission Team of NH and the people of Olancho, Honduras wish to thank you for your generous donations, continued support, and constant prayers. During our 10 day journey we held 4 medical clinics, painted the Nazareth School, visited the homes of children we sponsor and played for hours with the children at the Orphanage. Our cohesive team laughed and cried together as we processed the myriad of emotions experienced each day. Grateful is a word we used often and to YOU, we are grateful.
Mass for Syria on May 1st On May 1, 2014, at 6:30 p.m., at St. Joseph Cathedral in Manchester, New Hampshire, Most Reverend Peter A. Libasci, D.D., Bishop of Manchester, will celebrate a Mass to pray for those suffering from violence in Syria and the Middle East.
Bishop Libasci will be the principal celebrant of the Mass with Father Joseph I. Khoueiry, Pastor of St. George Maronite Catholic Church in Dover, and Father Thomas P. Steinmetz, Pastor of Our Lady of the Cedars Melkite Greek Catholic Church in Manchester as concelebrants. Both the Maronite and Melkite Churches are in communion with the Bishop of Rome, but draw their liturgical traditions and identity from the Middle East.
A special collection will be taken up at this Mass, which, through the goodness of Catholic Relief Services, will provide humanitarian assistance in Syria and Lebanon.
Bishop Libasci said, “After more than two years of ongoing violence in Syria, our brothers and sisters there and in the broader Middle East are in dire need of both our prayers and our charity. I am asking that Catholics of all Rites and Churches join us at this special Mass on May 1, and to give as generously as they can to help respond to the refugee crisis.”
