Father Chris and the Parish Staff of St. Matthias wish all Fathers a
Happy and Blessed Day! Happy Father’s Day
God our Father, in your wisdom and love you made all things. Bless these men, that they may be strengthened as Christian fathers. Let the example of their faith and love shine forth. Guide them to be good role models and loving to all their children. Help them to be a father like You are. Give them grace and patience to handle situations in a loving way. Grant that we, their sons and daughters, may honor them always with a spirit of profound respect. We ask this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen
TODAY’S READINGS

ENTHUSIASM AND GRAMMAR
There is a good reason that the writings of St. Paul don’t show up as examples in grammar textbooks. Today’s reading is a case in point. It begins with one of those long Pauline run on sentences that leave lectors gasping for breath. So what? Take a closer look at how Paul’s fervor for his subject matter derails the grammar. There is something admirable about being so caught up in his convictions that the words cannot come fast enough to express them, much less in an orderly fashion. Scripture scholars usually take this grammatical inept-ness as a sign of a passage’s early importance in the Christian commu-nity, something they were so ardent about that their language never got refined.
What leaves us in this condition? Re-telling the plot line of an action movie or the play-by-play of a sporting event? When was the last time any of us was so excited by our faith in Christ that we were left grasping for words, stumbling over our own errors in speech? It may be bad grammar, but it is an excellent way to inspire others with the message of Christ!

Our deep gratitude to parishioners and visitors for

OUR NEW CHURCH The work on our new church is progressing according to the schedule set by our general contractor, Westfall. The
clearing work is complete, all the excess dirt has been removed, and the underground stormwater drainage system installed including excavation of the retention pond. The pad for the church has been completed and the foundation piers have been drilled and filled with concrete. Underground plumbing has been installed under the pad and the electrical conduits are being put in place now. The new parking lot is being prepared with lime and a layer of gravel will be spread soon. The new parking area will be used for contractor parking and to store materials during construction as required. It will not be finished until near the end of the project (after all the heavy equipment leaves the site). The sewer line that was discovered serving the homes on Sanders and the apartments on Purvis has been relocated with approval by the city. Our title company is reimbursing us for the cost of this additional work. We continue to be very active with our general contractor and architect. They have been conducting detailed reviews of the electrical systems and lighting, plumbing and fixtures, the heating and cooling systems, and attending to the many details of a new construction project. We are also attending status meetings with Westfall every two weeks. Over the next few weeks, piers will be drilled for the SVdP building and pavilion, the church foundation will start to take shape as reinforcing beams and framing are placed, and concrete will start to be poured for the foundation. Your support to help KEEP EVERYONE SAFE during construction is very important and much appreciated. DO NOT ENTER THE CONSTRUCTION AREA including any of the cleared areas of our site. This is for your safety!! While we did meet our financial goals for our campaign, thanks to the generous support of many parishioners, our parish will be taking on a sizable monthly payment. If you are still making payments on a pledge, please continue to do so until fulfilled. Any additional gifts to our campaign will also be appreciated. If you would like to sponsor an element of our new church, we have an updated list of items that are available in the narthex. The requested donations for items range from $2,500 to $100,000. Please contact the parish office for more information. Please pray for the safe construction of our new church and for minimal weather delays. Contact our campaign team through Tom Condon at 281-382- 8097 for more information about the campaign or Jerry Strenk at 936-449-6686 with Building Committee questions.
DIOCESAN SERVICES FUND 2020 The 2020 Archdiocesan DSF campaign is
underway in the Archdiocese with this year’s
theme of "Bring Your Greatest Gifts to the
Lord". The Cardinal has set our parishes goal for this year at
$65,000. As of June 15, our parish has contributed
$40,438.99 toward pledges of $53,361.99. Your pledge can
be dropped in the collection box, inside the church office or
mailed directly to the Archdiocese. Please confirm that your
pledge card indicates our parish name. Please pray about how
you can support this important campaign that benefits so
many needy in the Galveston - Houston area.
Today we hear Jesus say, “Everyone who acknowledges me before others I will acknowledge before My heavenly Father.” This week, know that you will be bringing hope to the poor by your gift to the Society of
St. Vincent de Paul. Monthly needed items: dry pinto beans, spam, canned chick-en, tuna, soup, Vienna sausage, jelly The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is still using the “drive through” model to comply with Social Distancing. During the month of May, we were able to serve 365 families in this manner and will continue to practice this method during this pandemic. We thank St. Matthias for their continued support and prayers without whom we could not operate.
We are now offering Seniors-Only
Masses!!! On Thursdays and Fridays,
the daily Mass at 10:30 a.m. is open to
those who are aged 65 and older and
who are healthy. Please practice good
hygiene prior to coming to church.
When you come to church, please follow the social distancing
guidelines of 6ft and wear a face mask that covers your nose
and mouth. Please use your hand sanitizer when entering the
church and prior to taking Holy Communion.
For those with underlying health issues, Father Chris would
like for you to come up to the church around 11am and he will
come out to the front parking lot and offer you Holy
Communion, while you remain inside your vehicle.
CONGRATULATIONS CLASS OF 2020!!
We are so proud of all of our recent high school graduates; what a year it has been! The future is wide open, with many
opportunities now waiting for you. Congratulations on your great success. May God's love and guidance be with you. We would like to honor you in a Mass and need to a few things first. Please reach out to Chasity Nigliazzo at 281-356-2000.
Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time The psalmist cries out to God, “Lord, in your great love, answer me.” In each of our readings today, there is movement from darkness and despair to trusting in God as our source of salvation. Jeremiah sounds almost a madman as he describes the evil and vileness that sur-rounds him. In the midst of that terror, he professes his faith in God. Similarly, in Saint Paul’s letter to the Ro-mans, we are reminded that one man, Jesus Christ, came into the world for the sake of many, to overcome the evil and sin that have been prevalent since Adam. In Mark, Jesus calls us from fear, sin, and darkness to live in the light. He reminds us that we are not alone and how very precious each of us is in the eyes of God. Indeed, God hears our cries! DO NOT BE AFRAID In our world today, it seems there are many things to make us fearful. We can become distraught over personal finances, relationships, poor choices our children are making, issues with jobs, the changing climate, the way our parish is being run, or a zillion other things. The problems may not even be evil but may be simply life and all its challenges. But these struggles are real, and some-times we seek unhealthy solutions. Many people suffer with issues of anxiety and depression, and fear leads oth-ers to addiction as a means of coping. In our Gospel to-day, God lovingly calls us beyond that darkness to light. YOU ARE WORTH MORE THAN MANY SPARROWS Sometimes we look for very complex answers when a simple promise or solution is right in front of us. As I am writing and looking out the window, I see half a dozen little birds sitting in a bush. Their presence is a re-minder to me of God’s love and care for each and every one of us. If something that seems so insignificant or inci-dental is known by God, how much more are we loved and cared for! Take a moment, look at the world around you, breathe, take it in, and ask God for the help you need. Turn matters over and place your trust in a loving God. Remember, though, Jesus seldom heals without some sort of action on our part. When you have given your concern over to God, other concrete steps may be necessary. Is it time to schedule an appointment with a professional? Time to name an issue? Or time for the sac-rament of reconciliation? Evil’s power comes from re-maining in the darkness. When we no longer close our-selves off or suffer alone but share our concerns with someone, we can begin to grow and heal and move past them. It is seldom magical or instantaneous. It is a long arduous process. But we hold on to the simple reminder, “You are worth more than many sparrows!”

PRAYER FOR HEALTH CARE WORKERS
God of everlasting goodness, you sent your Son among us to bring healing, peace, and reconciliation to our weary world. Be with all health care workers and their assistants in this time of the Coronavirus pandemic.
As they continue Jesus’ ministry of care, renew them in mind, body, and spirit. Keep them safe from infection and illness, and may Christ’s healing presence flow through them as they serve those entrusted to their care. We ask this in his name, Christ the healer, who is Lord forever and ever. Amen. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
Act of Spiritual Communion
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in
the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above
all things, and I desire to receive You into
my soul. Since I cannot at this moment re-
ceive You sacramentally, come at least spir-
itually into my heart. I embrace You as if
You were already there and unite myself
wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.
Amen.

RECORDATORIO
Todavía me faltan certificados de bautismo. Su hijo NO hará
sus sacramentos a menos que sean recibidos.
