Dear Parents Congratulations to our squad of children who made it to the Western Region Carnival. We are so proud of you girls and boys. Thank you to Mr Cant, Mrs Mann, Mr Mann, Mrs Edmunds and Mrs Gavenlock who accompanied the children. The weather was glorious so I daresay they had a super time. Thank you to St. Mary’s school who did a tremendous job in organising the carnival. Read Mr Cant’s letter for details. This week we are celebrating Literacy, Numeracy, Book Week and Naidoc Day. The staff and children will be having lots of fun doing exciting activities. Mrs O’Shaughnessy has a beautiful display in the Library and is immersing all the children in the books which won awards for book week. Mrs O’Shaughnessy has also organised the Book Fair for Tuesday and Wednesday. Very busy week for our Librarian. Thank you Mrs O’Shaughnessy for your dedication. If you have a spare moment you should visit our Library. Every class are also designing clever posters for Book Week. Thank you teachers. Naidoc day will be very special as lots of fun activities have been planned. A big thank you to Mrs Jones, Mrs Edmunds and Mrs Sharon Taylor for organising this day. Two important points to remember all children to come dressed in the colours of the Aboriginal Flag—red, black and yellow. Don’t bring lunch as there is a BBQ and cake (yummy!)

NAIDOC Day will be held at school this Friday. The day will commence with the Flag Raising Ceremony followed by the liturgy at 9am. The children are very excited about the day and we always have great fun along with learn-ing more about Aboriginal perspectives. Confirmation hints.

Joining in parish celebrations of the Eucharist will help your child to know that the parish community is a place where they will always be welcomed and accepted as they are. That in the parish community they will be strengthened and encouraged on their life journey and also challenged to be the very best they can be. Try to attend Mass during the time of prepa-ration for this wonderful sacrament. We might all like to use the prayer the celebrant will pray over the candidates as a prayer we pray for them throughout their lives but especially during this time.

It’s BOOK WEEK! This week we are celebrating Book Week in conjunction with Literacy Week. Each class will be having lots of fun celebrating Book Week by enjoying reading many books, being involved in literacy activities including class competitions and Read for Australia. Read for Australia is a national activity which involves reading the same book at the same time across Australia. This year the book being read is Herman and Rosie by Gus Gordon. It is a shortlisted book in this year’s Children’s Book Council Awards. The book is going to be read simultaneously across the school on Wednesday the 31st of July at 2pm. It is hoped that the story will inspire budding poets as afterwards the children will spend time creating their own poetry. These poems will then be carried with them all day on Thursday as we participate in Poem in a Pocket Day! And of course Book Week would not be complete without our annual……

……Scholastic Book Fair! YOU ARE INVITED TO OUR ANNUAL SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR! It will be held on Tuesday the 29th of July and Wednesday the 30th of July. The fair contains many wonderful books from Scho-lastic. So come along and browse, you may like to purchase a book or even donate a book to our Library. The Library benefits from holding a Book Fair, as it receives a percentage of the sales (usually 30% to 40%). The Book Fair will be opened before school, at lunch and after school until 4pm.

Please support our school to extend the variety of books available for the children in the library.
