Workshop Manual Stiga Park
1.1 General information,safety instructions
This manual has been written primarily fortrained mechanics working in a well-equip-ped workshop. Nevertheless, the manualcontains such detailed information that itcan also be of use to owners who wish tocarry out simple service and repairs ontheir machine.
A basic knowledge of repairs, tools andrepair instructions is, however, always aprerequisite for first-rate results.
A qualified mechanic should always beconsulted if the owner does not have suffi-cient knowledge to carry out repairs.
During the warranty period all service mustbe carried out by an Authorised Stiga Work-shop for the warranty to be valid.
The following basic points should be obser-ved if the machine is to function perfectly:
Follow the service schedule Be on the alert for sudden vibrations or
abnormal noise to avoid major break-downs
Always use Stiga Genuine Spare Parts Follow the descriptions in this manual
carefully. Do not take any short cuts.
How this manual is usedTo make this manual easy to understandwe have divided up the machine into itsmain systems and components. Theseparts are now the different chapters in thebook. The chapters have the same divisionand contents as the list of spare parts. Each chapter is divided up into sections. There is a quick-guide on the cover of thisbook, which refers to the different chapters.
In each chapter there is a detailed table ofcontents so that you can easily and quicklyfind what you are looking for.
For example, if you are looking for informa-tion on the Accessory Lifter you will find thisin chapter 3, Chassis and Body. On the firstpage in chapter 3 there is a detailed table ofcontents which refers to the correct section,in this case section 3.1.
Always check that you are reading the right
chapter for your particular machine beforestarting the repair work.

Other recommendations
Warm parts
Please observe that engine and exhaustsystem picks up a lot of heat during use. This applies above all to the silencer ofmachines equipped with catalytic conver-ter.To avoid injuries, allow the machine to coolbefore any kind of repairs are made to or
near parts of the engine or axhaust system.
Moving parts
The machines are all equipped with v-belttransmissions. Always stop the engine andremove the starter key before inspectionsor repairs are carried out.Always use extreme caution when testingsystems with moving parts to avoid injuries.
Lifting and blocking up
Before work under the machine, alwaysmake sure that lifting devices and jack-stands are approved for the weight.Work safe!
Cleanliness
Clean the machine before starting repairs.Dirt that penetrates into sensitive compo-nents can seriously influence the servicelife of the machine.
Tightening torque
Unless otherwise stated the tightening tor-que in the tables in the section Technicalspecifications must be used for the differentsizes of screws. This does not refer to self-tapping screws, which are mainly used forthe assembly of body parts.
Sharp edgesWatch out for sharp edges, especially whenworking with the mower deck. The bladescan be very sharp. Always wear gloveswhen working with the blades.
Replacement parts
Always use Stiga Genuine Spare Partsduring service work.
InspectionEach part dismantled in conjunction withservice work must be inspected.Examine for: wear, cracks, out of round-ness, straightness, dents, discolouring, ab-normal noise and jamming.

1.2 Assembly on deliveryEvery Stiga Park has undergone an exten-sive control programme before delivery. The machines are delivered as completelyassembled as possible. Thanks to this the assembly on delivery israpid and easy. The correct and careful assembly of themachine on delivery is a simple way of en-suring satisfied customers!
Procedure
The following points should be followed toensure rapid and correct assembly on deli-very, preferably in this order:
1. Open up the packing materials.
2. Lift off the engine cover
Battery
Warning!
If the battery is used without acidit will be severely damaged immediately.Battery acid is strongly corrosive.
The battery acid should be filled in awell-lit area where there is access to aplentiful supply of water. Always use
rubber gloves and protective glasses, and handle the acid with extreme cau-tion to avoid spillage. Avoid inhaling theacid fumes. Acid can burn the skin anddamage metal objects and clothes.
The machine is delivered with a dry-charged battery. The battery must be fil-led with acid before it can be used.
The battery is in position under the enginecover on delivery. To avoid damage resul-ting from spilled acid the battery must al-ways be dismantled before it is filled.

Tyres
The air pressure in the tyres is of critical im-portance for the performance and handlingof the machine. The correct air pressure formowing is 0.6 bar (9 psi) in the front tyres, and 0.4 bar (6 psi) in the rear tyres. When using heavy accessories, e.g. snowthrower, it may be necessary to increasethe pressure somewhat. However, themaximum permitted pressure is always0.8 bar (12 psi).
Towing plateFitting according to customer require-ments.
Engine oil
Check the oil level in the engine and top upif necessary.
Test driving
Drive the machine for a few minutes. Testall the functions. Pay special attention tothe safety functions. If the machine is to bedelivered with mower deck or other acces-sories, fit these before test driving themachine.

Royal, Pro 16, 18, 20The machine is equipped with comfort sus-pension. The folding seat can also be ad-justed lengthways. The suspension resultsin a parallel suspension motion.
The suspension does not normally requireany maintenance, but a little grease or oilonce or twice a year prevents wear.
The seat suspension operates in two sta-ges. The first stage is a safety function, connected to the seat switch. When theseat is unloaded the pressure pin pushes Aup the seat so that the switch Bcan springout. The pressure pin should be lubricated afew times per season to eliminate problems
with the safety circuit.

3.3 Lubrication chassisThe bearing for the articulation must be lub-ricated in accordance with the serviceschedule. Other moving parts are lubrica-ted once per season, although at least eve-ry 50 operating hours.
Note!- Lubrication is equally important for a
machine that is only used for a few
hours per year.- The lubricant provides not onlyprotection from wear but also fromrust.
- The machine should always belubricated before prolonged storage.
The bearing for the articulation has fourgrease nipples which must be lubricatedwith universal grease.
The steering chain must be lubricated withuniversal grease two or three times perseason. If the chains are heavily fouled: dismantlethe chains and wash them, and then refitand lubricate them.
The pressure pin (A) in the seat suspensionmust be lubricated to avoid problems withthe safety circuit.
Plastic bearings, e.g. the brake pedal bea-
ring, hydrogear pedal bearing and steering-column bearing (Senator, President, andRoyal only), must be lubricated with greaseor lubricating spray.
Drop a little engine oil or lubricating spray inthe ends of the control wires two or three ti-mes a year.
Note!Wires on machines used in freezingconditions should not be lubricated withengine oil since this can lead to thecontrol cables seizing in the cold. The wires on such machines should belubricated with a fluent, stronglypenetrating lubricant, e.g. 5-56 or WD40.

4.6 Power assistedsteering, Pro 20
The power assisted steering on Pro 20 is ahydraulic auxiliary system. The main com-ponents are the torque converter, which isbuilt into the steering console, an easily re-placeable oil filter, and the oil pump in thehydrogear (K66).
As opposed to standard power steering
(e.g. in a car), this power assisted steeringhas a limited capacity. This implies that incertain circumstances it has what may beexperienced as negative characteristics. At low engine speed, or in situations whereextra steering power is required, the stee-ring may be considered to be somewhatjerky. The machine should always be in motionwhen the steering is used. Avoid turning the
steering wheel when the machine is stan-ding completely still and the accessory is inlowered working position. The machine can be steered even whenthe engine is switched off. Nevertheless, itmay require more force than normal to ste-er the machine. This is particularly noticea-ble during cold weather.
Fault finding
One prerequisite for the function of the po-wer assisted steering is the play in the ste-ering. This play must always spring back tothe starting position when the wheel is rele-ased.Test by slowly turning the wheel in one di-rection when the engine is switched off. Atfirst there is a slight resistance, which in-creases when the machine begins to turn.Release the wheel. It should now return tothe middle position.

The wheel should spring back approx. 10-20 mm when the wheel is released after tur-ning. However, the machine will not auto-matically drive straight forward afterturning in the same way as a car.
If the machine always turns in the same di-rection as soon as the engine is started, there is probably a fault in the torque con-verter.
Another conceivable fault can be that the
bearing in the steering column tube is jam-ming, so that the steering wheel cannot au-tomatically return to the neutral position.
Note!If the steering does not function thisdoes not mean that there is always afault in the torque converter. Faults canalso occur in more simple mechanicalparts such as chains and gear wheels.
Dismantling of torque converter
Preparations
Dismantling of lifting fork, Pro 20,see section 3.1.4.
Procedure
1. Remove the three socket head screws
and remove the lower steering columntube from the dismantled torque conver-ter.
2. Tap out the spring pin and remove thecoupling and steering column.
3. Fit the coupling and steering column onthe new torque converter.

Repair of torque converter
The torque converter should always be re-placed in its entirety. The complicated de-sign often results in repairs being defective.
Note!During the warranty period the torque
converter must not be repaired, sincethis always leads to cancellation of thewarranty undertakings.
Warning!
Always observe great care whenassembling and testing a newly repai-red torque converter.
If the torque converter is assembled in-correctly after being repaired this can
result in malfunctioning. This can resultin personal injury.

5.1-2 Gearshift wire
5.1 Adjustment
Senator
Senator is equipped with one manual 5+1 gea-red gearbox. The gear positions are fixed in thegearbox, and therefore the adjustment of the po-sition of the gearshift must be made by adjustingthe length of the control wire.
The adjustment can be made both at the gear-box and from inside the control panel.
Procedure
1. Adjust the length of the control wire bymoving the angle link on the control wire.First release the nut that locks the angle linkat the control wire, and then remove the loosewire.
2. Carefully dismantle the ball cups from theball.
3. Move the ball cup part on the control wire byscrewing on or off as necessary. If the ballcup part is moved so that the control wirebecomes longerthe gearshift will be movedbackwards.
Note!
It is important that the angle link is notunscrewed too far on the control wire. Theangle link must always be screwed on at least5 mm to avoid damage to the threads.
4. Press the ball cups onto the ball and checkthat all the gear positions can be obtained.
5. Tighten the nut and replace the loose wire.
Note!It is important that the loose wire goes through
both holes in the ball cups, and that it is securelylocked round the round part of the angle link.

5.3 Adjustment
President, Royal, Pro 16, Pro 18 and Pro20
In theory this machine can go just as fastboth forwards and backwards. It is therefo-re important that the basic position of thehydrogear pedal is correctly adjusted.
Procedure
The pedal should in its rest position have adistance of 10-15 mm from the rear stopscrew.
Note! This distance can be adjusted to
increase the reversing speed. However, the distance must never exceed 15 mm.The rear stop screw must always bescrewed down as far as possible.
1. Adjust the distance by moving the anglelinks on the control wire.First release the nut that locks the anglelink at the control wire, and then removethe locking wire.
Release the ball cups from the ball.
Note!It is important that the angle link is notunscrewed too far on the control wire.

6. Dismantle the control wire.It is easiest to pull out the control wireforwards. Do not forget to cut off thebundling strap that holds the cables andwires in the articulation point.Notice how the control wire is routed,
since it considerably simplifies fitting ifthe new wire is routed in the same wayas the old one.
7. Fit the new control wire. Check that thewire is fitted in the right direction. The arrow on the wire casing shouldalways point forwards.
8. Fit the wire in the rear attachment, andtighten the screw.
