Strong finish for Durham real estate2012 was a good year for realtors in Durham Region.

The latest release from the Durham Region Association of REALTORS (DRAR) reported 410 sales for the monthof December.

With the last month of 2012 reported, Durham realtors recorded total sales of 10,549 in 2012, a 7.6 per centincrease over 2011. Brock and Clarington had the highest increases from 2011, with 15 and 17 per cent bumpsrespectively.

The average selling price of a home was $327,271 in Durham Region. Oshawa had the lowest average selling pricein the area at $252,051; Uxbridge had the highest average selling price at $412,538.

“Average selling prices and the number of sales are up this year and we expect that trend to continue in 2013,” saysIan Smith, president of DRAR.

According to DRAR, average selling prices increased 5.6 per cent in 2012 compared to the previous year.

“Durham Region continues to offer homeowners great amenities,” says Smith. “The expansion of Highway 7, thewidening of Bloor Street and the extension of the 407 will bring many new opportunities. These improvements intransportation access to and from Durham Region will make Durham an even better place to live and work.”
