Welcome Hornet Fans
On behalf of Ganado High School Student Council, we
would like to offer a warm welcome to you to join in on the
2016 Fall Homecoming. The Ganado Hornets will be hosting
the Tuba City Warriors. Homecoming week will be on
September 26 - 30, 2016. Our Homecoming theme is
“Golden Eras”.
Homecoming Festivities planned for the week are
included in this Handbook for your information. Some
highlights include; The Pre-coronation, to be held on
Thursday September 22, 2016. The Pep-Rally on Friday,
September 30, 2016 followed by the Parade at 2:00 pm and
the Homecoming Game at 7:00 pm. We extend our invitation
to the community to join our Homecoming festivities and
make it a memorable week.

Homecoming Parade
The attendance and participation of the Homecoming
Parade is open to the public. Your participation and
adherence to the rules are appreciated. Three Certificates
will be given: 1st Place, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place. The STUCO
Executive Officers and Sponsors will present the
Homecoming Parade Awards during halftime at the Football
Game on September 30, 2016.
Rules for Float Entries:
1. All entries must be pre-registered by September 29,
2016 (Registration Form Attached). This will provide
information to how many floats to expect.
2. All judged float entries will be $20.00 for any
club/class/district, or community members. Entries will
be paid to Sharon Chee at GHS front office. A Receipt
will be given after payment. Payments will be accepted
the day of the parade.
3. Building the float may take place after school,
weekends, and in the evening. A Sponsor must be
present at all times during the building of all student
floats (K-12), and they are responsible for ensuring
students ride the activity buses or have transportation
home.

4. The Principal must be notified of sites or areas where
float building will be taking place.
5. A licensed driver must drive all floats (NO EXCEPTIONS!!!).
6. All Vehicles in the parade must have vehicle insurance.
7. Parade floats should be creative, fun and celebrate our
deep tradition in HORNET COUNTRY!
8. Horse handlers are required to clean up after their
animals (Droppings, hay etc.).
9. All Individuals driving motorcycle or ATV must be
licensed and must wear a helmet.
Parade Etiquette
1. Please drive slowly and keep a safe distance between
people and vehicles in the route. Teachers please keep
the children from running up to the floats and onto the
road.
2. All parade entries must have an organized clean-up
crew to dismantle their entries immediately after the
parade and depose of their trash properly.
3. Any persons planning on giving out candy, pencils, or
other items, etc. Please walk up to the students and
hand it to them. DO NOT throw the candy into the
crowds or onto the roads, to ensure public safety.

4. Due to lack of maneuverability, we take entries into the
parade lineup as they arrive. The only exceptions are
the following:
The Navajo Police Dept.
Ganado Fire District
Grand Marshal
Color Guard (Veteran Assoc. of Ganado)
Superintendent/Governing Board members
School Principals and the rest of the line-up.
5. If there is a break down, attempt to pull over as far as
possible to allow traffic to continue.
6. The judging table will be located at the entrance of the
Donald Noble Football Field.
The parade line up will start at the Sage Compound Community Housing
complex from the southwest entrance. The line-up will begin at 12:00 pm. The
Parade will leave the compound through the east entrance, pass the Sage
Memorial Hospital, across the Carl Dalton Bridge, and enter through the school
compound, ending at the Field House Parking lot.
*Neither the Sage Memorial Hospital nor the Ganado Unified School
District #20 are responsible for any damages, personal injury, theft that
might occur before, during or after the parade to any floats and/or vehicles.

Students Council Assignments Homecoming Parade Student Council is responsible for the following:
STUCO Secretary will prepare press release for the school weekly bulletin and KTNN Announcement
Make Numbered Sheets for Each Float (1-100)
Select 3 judges (provide drinks and judge sheets)
Select Grand Marshal
Designate a spot for the judges, set up table, provide judge sheets, and drinks
Make sure the parade moves smoothly

Students Council Assignments
Homecoming Parade Student Council is responsible for the following:
Write/Send letter to GUSD transportation to pick up students for departure to Main campus and pick up students after Parade.
Write/Send a letter to Maintenance to open up Donald Noble Football Field for high school students to go to after parade.
Ask Middle school for use of their Restroom Facilities
Contacting all businesses, schools, and approving all activities, etc. regarding the Homecoming festivities Approve the Homecoming Agenda with the concurrence of the Principal
Provide certificates for the Parade Winners
Maintain point system for Homecoming Activities
Student council/Executive officers will meet twice a week until Homecoming
Write/Send a letter Ganado Fire Department for bon fire event and parade
Write/Send a letter to Sage Memorial Hospital and get facility request approval, sign by Sage and Principal
Write/Send a letter Athletic Department regarding facilities needed, cohorts can do this.
Assign all clubs, sponsors, and student volunteers to pick up trash after the parade

High School Scavenger Hunt: Complete the 9 tasks with 30 or more students from your class cohort
Student council is responsible for the following:
Notify through memos to GHS principal, teachers, and staff
Scavenger hunt is on GHS campus only
Provide the 9 tasks for class competitions
Provide Scavenger hunt tasks
Provide Scavenger hunt rules
Responsible for counting all photos and determine winner
Rules: High School Scavenger Hunt: Complete the 9 tasks
1. Pictures can only be taken before and after school (with an
exception of one picture during lunch). 2. Sponsor(s) must be present to monitor students 3. Cohorts cannot interfere with other cohorts
High School Scavenger Hunt: Complete the 9 tasks and take a
picture to place on class bulletin
1. Decorate classroom door that represent your class as one team.
2. Spell “Hornet” with 30 or more people down Hornet Grand Avenue, using your bodies
3. Form your class year in the high school parking lot with 30 or more students in your cohort.
4. Dance to “Can’t Stop the Feeling” with 30 or more students and at least one sponsor during lunch.
5. Form a “Star” with 30 or more students around principal/vice principal.
6. 30 or more people dance with or around a high school security to Uptown Funk.
7. Make up a cheer for pep rally. 8. Have 5 or more “Twins” stand together in front of the school. 9. Get one P.E./Health teacher and have 30 or more students in
“Workout Clothes” stand together. Be safe and have your class sponsor present

Half-time Presentation of Homecoming Court (Juniors) and Parade Awards (Executives)
Junior Class members are responsible for the following: Flowers, sash, boutonnieres/corsages, and tiara/crown
STUCO members are responsible for the following: framed parade certificates
Senior Class of 2016 Senior class is responsible for the following: Pep-Rally before parade: September 30, 2016
Create a bell schedule for the day, September 30, 2016
Plan for one (1) hour of pep rally activities (minute by minute)
Submit finalized Agenda, ASAP, to Principal and Student Council
Seek PA system from Linda Begay, tech. person (write a letter)
Begin gathering Donations for competitions (Seniors and Sponsors)
Decorate the Stage (Optional)
Make sure Class Banners are hung for each class
Bonfire: September 29, 2016 Senior class is responsible for the following:
Seek Permission/communicate with Athletics Dept., Security, and Facility Coordinator (Davis Begay) for the site of the Bonfire
Find two flat beds (Optional)
Contact Fire Department and write a formal letter
Make Contact and seek people for fire wood
Hire Entertainment for the event
Find PA system (generator) (bon fire)
Notice to Varsity Football Players and Coaches to Attend
Notice to all Cheerleaders to attend

Plan for (1) hour and involve as many students as you can
Mark Parking area away from Bon-Fire and Clear Site
Communicate with Security to supervise and assist with the event
Seek red tape to tape off sections from the fire
Junior Class of 2017 Junior Class is responsible for the following: Homecoming Court: September 19-21, 2016
Create Nomination forms for class/club Candidates
Create an official ballot counting form
Inform all club sponsors to select candidates to represent their clubs
Club nomination forms (for sponsors to fill out and summit to STUCO)
Set up Voting Day, during Academic Intervention
Homecoming Pre-Coronation: Junior Class is responsible for the following:
Make a bell schedule for 30 minutes, at the end of the day. (September 28, 2016)
Write letter to Linda Begay (PA System)
Get Bell Schedule approved by Ms. James
Floor layout of Gym (include route for candidates)
Decorations (optional)
Write/notify Classes and Club advisors to select candidates for Pre-Coronation
Communicate Semi-Formal Dress Code to Candidates and Parents (write a letter)

The Freshmen class is responsible for the following:

Get Chaperones (4-6 teachers and staff)
Get 4 varsity basketball players to coach and referee

Set up bracket
Provide bus passes
Rules: No Varsity Basketball Players are to play, they can coach a team or referee
Girls points will be worth two points and boys one point (that way the boys will be willing to pass the basketball to the girls)
Freshmen –Vs- Sophomore and Juniors –Vs- Seniors and winning team will play each other, losing team will play for 3rd place
Class Hall Competition
Assign students to create class banners
Create banner for the football team to run through at the beginning of the game
GHS Cheerleaders GHS Cheerleaders are responsible for the following: Male Cheerleaders:
Select 6-10 males who are willing to be male cheerleaders for the week
Coordinate with cheerleaders to learn (2 to 4) cheers
Coordinate (1 or 2) dance routines
Prepare for performance at Power Puff & Pep Rally
Seek old cheerleader uniforms from Mr. Dowse
Grand Marshal Float Preparation
Grand Marshal is responsible for the following:
Provide own vehicle and/or Flatbed
Responsible for decorating their float
Student Council will make the Grand Marshal banner

favorite sweater or scarf)
Lunch Activity: Soccer September 27 Tuesday: “Twin Day” (Dress with a partner in the
same attire)
Lunch Activity: Volleyball September 28 Wednesday: “Jersey Day” (Wear your favorite Team’s jersey)
September 29 Thursday: “Throwback Thursday” (Dress your favorite Decade)
Powder Puff Game (Host: Sophomores) @ high school football field: 5:30-7:00 pm

Fall Homecoming 2016 Rules
No slandering or misbehaving among classes during the week. Consequence: class will no longer participate in activities
A class sponsor will have to be present at all activities, decorating of all floats and all after school activities.
Each class sponsoring an activity is to provide a set of detailed rules and guidelines at the time of the activity.
Only judges, STUCO advisors and Principal have the right to disqualify/dismiss any student/class from participating in the activities due to misbehavior.
It is the duties of all class officers to assure that all decorations are taken down and walls are clean no later than the following Monday.
Each class will give STUCO Executive President daily briefings on their progress and/ or final decisions.
All STUCO members will participate in all up day events to promote school spirit.
All letters/Memorandums written must be proof read by Executive Secretary and Advisors, also a copy filed with STUCO.
After all parade, ALL STUCO OFFICERS will return to the high school to prepare for football game (half-time awards).
Absolutely NO decorating during class time or scavenger hunt during instructional time
