Welcome to Skills Training UK.
Our values are about making a positive diff erence to the lives of every young person who joins one of our programmes.
Whatever your educational background or personal circumstances, we will help you to develop the skills and experience which employers look for in young people.
Our tutors will help you build your confi dence and improve your communication, team work and employability. You will also be supported to improve your English and Maths.
You will receive individual help and support with any personal issues and with our guidance, you will have the chance to take your fi rst steps towards employment or continued learning.
I hope you will also enjoy reading about some of the young people who have progressed into employment or a higher level of education or training after their Traineeship or course with Skills Training UK.

16-18s - our qualifi cation off erIf you’re aged 16-18, are not in education, employment or training, and would like to continue your studies, we have just the course for you!
What’s involved:l Range of full-time, part-time and shorter courses available, to work
towards a Level 1 or 2 BTEC Extended Certifi cate, Technical Certifi cate or Diploma qualifi cation
l High quality, sector-specifi c work placementl English and maths tutoring up to Level 2/GCSEl Travel support and bursary available if eligible
Our tutors provide support to help you develop skills and confi dence with the aim of supporting your progression into the next stage of Further Education, an Apprenticeship or employment. There are enrolment windows for our programmes throughout the year.
As well as practical skills such as job searching, CV writing and interview practice, you will also work towards qualifi cations in Maths and English. We will work closely with you to discover your strengths and help you fi nd a career path that’s right for you. There is also travel support and a bursary available for those eligible.
Entry requirements:
To enrol you must:• Provide proof of identifi cation – ideally a passport,
birth certifi cate or driving licence.• Provide copies of your certifi cates for
GCSE/ Functional Skills English and/or Maths.• Be 16-18. 19-year-olds who were still aged 18
on 31st August of the previous year are also eligible.
Learners who have previously gained grade 3/D in GCSE English and/or Maths will be supported to work towards a grade 4 at GCSE. Learners with grade 2/E or below will work towards gaining their Functional Skills in English and/or maths.

Tribikram Chakrabarti on work experience at Doubletree Hilton Hotel
Tribikram’s story…
17-year-old Tribikram Chakrabarti completed a Level 2 BTEC Technical Certifi cate in Business Administration with Skills Training UK and, as part of the course, he enjoyed a memorable work experience placement at the Doubletree Hilton Hotel in Ealing.
During his four-week work placement, Tribikram worked in the human resources and administration offi ces where he enjoyed working with a team and learning essential business skills. Tribikram joined Skills Training UK after dropping out of college but the Level 2 course and since inspired him to follow a career in business.
Tribikram said: “I was so excited and happy when I found out about getting the work placement, and it really lived up to my expectations and helped with my studying. My communication, confi dence and ability to work in a team were all areas I wanted to improve during my qualifi cation – and I achieved all three.”

Introducing our Traineeships
Our practical, work-related Traineeship programmes are for young people aged 16-24 who have limited work experience. We can help you prepare for employment, an Apprenticeship or further education by equipping you with the right skills and experiences that employers look for.
What’s involved:l Learn ‘on the job’ through a high quality
100-hour work placement with a local or national employer in a sector of interest.
l Work towards qualifi cations in English and maths up to Level 2.l Access to a range of short courses including First Aid, Health and Safety,
and Food Hygiene (see page 13).l Travel support and bursary available if eligible.

Rajee’s story…
Rajee Kaur moved to the UK in 2015 – seeking asylum with her parents who were forced to fl ee their home in war torn Jalalabad, Afghanistan. She was just 18 at the time and could speak very little English, with no academic qualifi cations.
Rajee completed Skills Training UK’s Business Study Programme before enrolling on the Business Administration Traineeship. She passed her Level 2 BTEC Certifi cate in Business Administration and Level 1 and Level 2 qualifi cations in English and Maths, as well as securing work placements at BT, the British Heart Foundation and Gull Law Chambers solicitors in London.
Now aged 20, Rajee works full-time as a receptionist at Lawmen Solicitors in Hayes.
Rajee said: “When I arrived in the UK I was keen to
better myself and I wanted to start a formal education.
Skills Training UK has made that a reality.
“The teachers and staff were very supportive – I liked
the way they explained everything to students. It has
helped me a lot in terms of my education as well as
improving my confi dence, interpersonal skills,
teamwork and preparing a CV.
“To now have a job is brilliant. I enjoy the work very
much and I’m looking forward to the future.”

Mansi’s story...
Mansi Desai has turned her life around thanks to Skills Training UK.
The 18-year-old said: “Before I started with Skills Training UK, my life was very different. I didn’t know what I wanted to do or where I was going to go.
“I really enjoyed my Traineeship. I learned how to develop my skills, gained a lot of confidence, made a lot of new friends, and received great support from all of my tutors and assessors. My aspiration is now to work in business and I have just started an Apprenticeship in Business.”

Callum’s story...
20-year-old Callum Evans was referred to Skills Training UK by his local Jobcentre Plus in Brighton, where he took on a Hospitality Traineeship and enjoyed work experience at Mill View Hospital cafe.
During work experience, Callum impressed his managers by going the extra mile and helping out with tasks around the hospital, including in the housekeeping team and talking to patients. He has since been off ered a full-time job at the hospital cafe.
Callum said: “I never thought I’d end up working in the NHS but it’s been so rewarding. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Skills Training UK and I’m incredibly thankful for the skills I learned during my Traineeship and for the tutors who helped build my communication skills.”

Damian’s story…
Damian Williams was unemployed for nearly two years before he joined our Industry Traineeship in Walsall. The 10-week course was followed by a four-week work placement with local firm Gerrymet, which manufactures and services saw blades and wood cutting tools.
The outcome was the offer of a permanent position as a full-time Trainee Saw Doctor. Two years on and he has received several pay rises – going from strength to strength.
Damian said: “I’m really happy. I’d never considered doing anything like this before but I’m really enjoying working at Gerrymet and doing something that’s hands on. I can say to people now, I’ve got a job, which has made a huge difference to my life.”

First Aid
The one day Emergency First Aid at Work course is a valuable qualification for any career. This course is available for any learners over the age of 16.

Safe Moving and Handling
The Level 2 Award in Safe Moving and Handling will help you to recognise the importance of ensuring a safe working environment. It is particularly useful for learners on our Traineeship for Industry.

assessment principlesl Types of equipment and testing
requirements associated with manual handling safety
Food Safety for Retail
The Level 2 Award in Food Safety for Retail (QCF) is particularly useful for Retail Study Programme, Retail Traineeship or Hospitality Traineeship learners. The award is accredited and recognised internationally.
You will learn about:l Food safety hazardsl Food poisoning controll Temperature controlsl Personal hygienel Cleaning and disinfectionl The role of the food handler in

Health and Safety

Mentor Me!
Mentor Me! Is for anyone needing extra support to overcome personal barriers. Our mentors will support you to tackle your individual challenges and get you on the right track towards work, further education, or an Apprenticeship.l Receive dedicated 1-2-1 support from our mental health fi rst aid trained mentorsl Support with managing appointments
with external agencies, like GPs, housing associations, clinics and addiction support
l Workshops in topics such as money management, confi dence & resilience building and health & wellbeing
l Gain valuable work experience in your sector of interest
l Work towards Functional Skills qualifi cations in English and maths

21-year-old Matthew suff ered from severe anxiety before he
started the Mentor Me! programme. Now he has qualifi cations
in English and maths, he’s made new friends, and he has the
confi dence to fi nd a job.
Matthew said: “I rarely went out and, if I did it, it was always with
my mum. Now I travel to Skills Training UK every day on my own
and I go to the gym with two new friends. Everyone on the
Mentor Me! programme is very supportive. I felt very happy there.
“I still have some anxiety when I think about going into work
and I need to increase my confi dence but I am now thinking
about a career, which is something I never would have been
able to do before.”
