WARNING
Playing loud music in avehicle can hinderyour ability to hear traffic and permanentlydamage your hearing. The maximum volumelevels achievable by Infinity speakers whencombined with high-power amplificationmay exceed safe levels for extendedlistening, Using low volume levels isrecommended when driving. InfinitySystems accepts no liability for hearingloss, bodily injury, or property damage asaresult of use or misuse of this product,
REPRODUCINGBASS IN VEHICLES
Depending on the size of your vehicle'sinterior listening space, reproduced bassfrequencies below 80Hz will be boostedby nearly 12dB per octave as frequencydecreases, This phenomenon, known as thevehicle's transfer function (or cabin gain),plays an important role in shaping thesubwoofer's frequency response in yourvehicle. The enclosed technical data sheetincludes frequency response graphs thatshow both the subwoofer's "in-car"response (which factors in this vehicletransfer function) and its "out-of-car"response (which does not),

VENTED ENCLOSURES
Avented enclosure acts like asealedenclosure at frequencies above its tuned(resonance) frequency, At resonance (whichis defined by the venn, the vent producesthe majority of sound - the subwoofer coneis nearly stationary while the air insidethe vent vibrates, This provides greatermechanical power handling at and aboveresonance, but reduced mechanical powerhandling below resonance, Since thesubwoofer cone and voice coil don't movemuch at resonance, airflow across thevoice coil is minimized and thermal powerhandling is reduced slightly at resonance,
Vented enclosures provide better efficiencyin the 40Hz .... 60Hz range, at the expense otsound output in the lowest octClve (below40HZ), The use of an infrasonic filter isrecommended with vented enclosures,An optimum vented enclosure for II KappaSeries subwoofer is IClrger thCln ClIJ optimumseClled enclosure,
Sr,e ClccompClnying datCl sheet for specificenclosure dimension requirements,
VENTED-ENCLOSURE PERFORMANCE ADVANTAGES
• An optimum vented enclosnre has greaterefficiency and higher output in the40Hz~ 60Hz range than an optimumsealed enclosure,
• An optimum vented enclosure providesagreater sensation of bass than anoptimum sealed enclosure.
• A100,9w or 120.9w subwoofer in anoptimum vented enclosure will requireless amplifier power to achieve agivenacoustic output (down to the enclosure'sresonClllce frequency) than in an optimumserlled enclosure.
VENTED' ENCLOSURE PERFORMANCE TRADE-OFFS
• Reduced output in the lowest octave(below 40Hz).
• Reduced mechanical power handlingbelow the enclosure's resonancefrequency, The use of an electronicinfrasonic filter is strongly recommended,to reduce the chance of overdrivingthe subwoofer below the enclosure'sresonance frequency,
• An optimum vented enclosure willCllways be larger than an optimumsealed enclosure.
VENT ED- ENCLOSURE CONSTRUCTION
Vented·enclosure construction is moredifficult than the construction of asealedenclosure, The enclosure volume and portdimensions have aspecific relationshipwith the physical and electromechanicalcharacteristics of the subwoofer, requiringthat the recommended enclosure volumeand port characteristics he strictlyobserved, As with sealed enclosures, usemedium-density fiberboard (MDF), glueand screws to construct the enclosure, and seal all joints with silicone caulk,
THE INFINITY RECOMMENDATION
100,9w and 120.9w subwoofers invented enclosures are recommendedfor enthusiasts who prefer accentuatedbass response, for those who have plentyof cargo space to devote to asubwooferenclosure and for those who will use a lesspowerful amplifier to drive their subwoofer. The volume and port dimensions indicatedon the included technical data sheet mustbe followed precisely to ensure optimumperformance.
~-,
BAND-PASS ENCLOSURES
Band-pass enclosures can provide themost output from any amplifier andsubwoofer combination over a limitedband of frequencies, but that additionaloutput comes at the expense of sonicaccuracy. Band-pass enclosures combineasealed or vented enclosure that housesthe subwoofer along with avented chamberinto which the subwoofer outputs its sound. The vented chamber acts as an acousticlow-pass filter which attenuates highfrequencies in the subwoofer's output. Thatattenuation of high frequencies can make itvery difficult to hear amplifier and speakerdistortion; consequently, you may not beable to determine when the subwoofer isin danger of being damaged.
See accompanying data sheet for specificenclosure dimension requirements,
BAND-PASS-ENCLDSURE PERFORMANCE
ADVANTAGES
• An optimum band-pass enclosure provirleshigher output over alimited bandwidththan an optimum enclosure of any othertype.
BAND-PASS-ENCLOSURE PERFORMANCE TRADE-Om
• Band-pass enclosures achieve high outputat the expense of sonic accuracy,
• An optimum band-pass enclosure has amore limited bandwidth than an optimulllenclosure of any other type.
• The enclosure's 10W-IJaSS filter characteristics can make it difficult to hear if thesubwoofer is in danger of being damaged,
• An optimum band-pass enclosure IS usuallylarger than an optimum vented enclosure,
BAND-PASS-ENCLOSURE CONSTRUCTION
Band-pass-enclosure construction is moredifficult than vented-box construction and,as with vented enclosures, the designparameters for the vented section mustIJe followed carefully, (The sealed sectionis more forgiving of small design 3ndconstruction variations.) Fortunately, there are many prefabricated hand-passenclosures that are designed to extractthe most output possible from nearlyany subwoofer. Prefabricated band-passenclosures are strongly recommendedif you must have ahand-pass enclosure,If you choose to build your own band-passenclosure, use medium-density fiberboard(MDF), glue and screws to construct theenclosure, and be sure to seal all jointswith silicone caulk,
t\Jlnnnity
THE INFINITY RECOMMENDATION
Band-pass enclosures are recommendedonly tor enthusiasts who want high soundpressure levels (SPl) without regard forsonic accuracy, If high SPL AND greatsounding bass are your goals, choosing avented enclosure is recommended instead.

MOUNTING THESUBWOOFER
The 100,9w and 120,9w subwoofers can bemounted from the outside of the enclosureor from the inside of the enclosure, Whichever way you mount the subwoofer, use theincluded foam mounting gasket to ensure aleak-free seal between the subwooferframe and the enclosure,
CONNECTING THESUBWOOFER
SETTING THE IMPEDANCE
The 100,9w and 120,9w subwoofers bothfeature the Selectable Smart Impedance'·(SSI) switch, This exclusive feature letsyou set the subwoofer's impedance toeither 2ohms or 4ohms with the flip ofaswitch (see illustrations to the right),This allows you to extract the most fromyour subwoofer amplifier in any situation,
2-0hm Setting
4-0hm Setting
The SSI 2-ohm setting increases thesubwoofer's output over the 4-ohm settingby up to 3dB, depending on the amplifier,Performance is identical in all otherrespects, If the connected amplifier israted for 2-ohm operation and its 2-ohmpower ratings are within the subwoofer'spower-handling specifications, setting theSSI switch in the 2-ohm position willachieve maximum output,
IMPORTANT: Make sure thesubwoofer amplifier is turned OFF beforesetting the SSI switch, Do not changethe switch position while the subwooferamplifier is operating. Doing so coulddamage the amplifier,
CONNECTING THE AMPLIFIER
The Kappa 100.9w and 120.9w subwooferconnectors are compatible with bare wireup to 8AWG (tinned or untinned) and wirethat is terminated with pin connectors.Although single banana connectors will fitinto the connector openings, the connectionmay not be secure.
