Meet TootieTootie (Kiowa Try Tootie), an 8-yearold female, is looking for her foreverhome. She was returned by herowner, whose job change requiredtravel during the week and hedidn’t think staying in a kennel wasthe best situation for her. This spunky, very social, super playfulgirl is enjoying her foster home, fromracing around the backyard tomeeting other dogs on long walks. She gets along well with her oldergreyhound foster brother as well as avisiting golden retriever, is curiousabout her surroundings and is notchoosy about what dog bed she liesin. She loves to rearrange things (forexample, items in the toy basket), butnever harms them. She wouldappreciate a companion in her newhome.

It was a couple of years ago that I first started thinkingabout the concept of a greyhound as a pet. My boyfriendand I were living in a small apartment at the time, and Ireally wanted a dog. I had always had cats, but I knew thathaving a dog filled such a different space, and I felt it washigh time to adopt one. In discussing this with a friend, theyhad first brought up the idea of a greyhound, citing their“pretty lazy” personalities and minimal exerciserequirements. Being unfamiliar with the breed myself, Ididn’t take this advice at face value: “A dog that big?” Ithought, “No way it would be content just chilling most ofthe day.” So, I started doing one of my favorite things:research. I learned a lot about the breed and retired racers this way,but I wasn’t ready to jump in just yet. So, I made a point tovisit the greyhounds in person at one of BGA’s meet andgreet events at the Galleria Mall. I immediately fell in love.So calm, so friendly...and those eyes! I went home, sat downin front of my computer and immediately submitted anadoption application. From there, as they say, the rest ishistory. Our Django (formerly Stallion) came to us fromWest Palm Beach and has been retired a little over a year.He has brought so much joy to our home and has trulyenriched our lives; we look forward to the many fulfillingyears of his retirement ahead. In my role as Communications Co-Chair with BGA, will sharein developing strategy and content for social media, thewebsite, email communications and event promotions. Mycommunications background is rooted in my love ofstorytelling. It drove me to obtain a Bachelor’s degree injournalism, spend years in corporate marketing andcommunications and recently complete requirements for aMaster’s in public relations. I am thrilled and honored mybackground has allowed me to be in a position to greatersupport and further the mission of this great organization.
Jill, her husband Dean and their two daughtersadopted their first greyhound Chase (OurIntimidator) in May 2003. Since then, they have fostered many greyhounds. They discovered their most recent foster Isaac (FameBound) has retinal degeneration and, even thoughhe's only four years old is quite blind. Since he wasdoing so well with their family, they decided to adopthim. Jill is a content and community manager for dancestudio owners and she is looking forward to usingher marketing experience to support the mission ofBuffalo Greyhound Adoption.
