SUMMER 2016
Summer is a special gift from God. It’s a different pace with different commit-ments and rhythms for most people. It’s a change to take advantage of.
One of my favorite Jesus teachings about worry comes from a passage in Luke 12 where he says to his disciples, “Consider the lilies, how they grow…”
When was the last time you slowed down enough to consider the lilies of your life? The lilies don’t have to be literal flowers. The lilies can be the small seemingly insignificant moments of life when we set aside our agendas and busyness to enjoy small moments. The July 4th holiday was a slow paced day at our house. In the early after-noon, Eli was upstairs in his room play-ing with a little top game. He was spin-ning the tops to see which one would spin the longest. I joined in, taking ad-
vantage of a shared moment. It wasn’t productive on many levels. But was an in-valuable investment on other levels. Look-ing back now, I can see it was a moment of considering the lilies in my life.
There’s a few lines from the poem, Cam-as Lilies, by Lynn Ungar that I’ve been read-ing over and over this summer:
“And you – what of your rushed and useful life? Imagine setting it all down – papers, plans, appointments, everything – leaving only a note: ‘Gone to the fields to be lovely. Be back when I’m through with blooming.’”
I hope as we move into August that you’ve enjoyed some lilies in your life this summer. If not, it’s not too late. Just leave a note saying you’ve gone to the fields to do some blooming.
Thank you for the privilege of serving among you.
Set Jesus apart from everything and everyone as the one who guides your life. Be willing to speak up gracefully in word and action. Our lives should be a hope others see. 1st Peter 3:15

The cadence of a soul is to breathe in worship, then breathe out action. We oxygenate our
spirit by inhaling renewing worship, and rejuvenate our environments by exhaling trans-
forming action. It is the respiratory rhythm of the Christ follower. Neither full nor deflated
lungs feed the functioning of the heart for Kingdom play. Worship Quotes by Dan Wilt
What a thought provoking quote! Over the years, I have been accused of being too cheerful or positive by
some around me who wanted to complain or grouse about situations. When I am tempted to give in to negativity or
even say something I may regret, I recall my mom’s strategy of taking a deep breath and counting to ten. (She used
that method to help handle five unruly kids!). It is amazing what a pause in action with a deliberate breath can do to
help clear our minds and calm our tongues.
The cadence of a soul is to breathe in worship, then breathe out action. How often to we just go through
the motions during our worship services? Do we deliberately breathe in worship so we can allow it to determine our
actions? What would happen if we truly thought of worship as something we inhale that permeates our very souls in-
stead of something we do for an hour on Sunday morning?
We oxygenate our spirit by inhaling renewing worship, and rejuvenate our environments by exhaling
transforming action. I think my favorite words in that sentence are the verbs oxygenate and rejuvenate because they
are powerful reminders of the importance taking time to worship, of being present in our worship, and that our worship
should cause transformation.
There is a popular song in the Christian arena now by Jonny Diaz entitled Breathe. If you haven’t heard this
song, I urge you to search it on YouTube and breathe in this worship
Breathe, just breathe
Come and rest at My feet
And be, just be
Chaos calls but all you really need
Is to take it in fill your lungs
The Peace of God that overcomes
Just breathe
Let your weary spirit rest
Lay down what’s good and find what’s best
Just breathe
Thanks be to God for his indescribable gifts! 2 Corinthians 9:15

AUGUST EVENTS
Thanks to all of you for your contributions to the One Great Hour of Sharing. Our offering total was $800.00 (including the offering tents that the children brought)! Some of the money that was collected from participating churches will be sent to the South Sudan. At the recent Women's Conference at Camp Judson, some of us were privileged to hear Ann Klemmer speak. Ann and her Dr. husband, Bill, have served in South Sudan, sometimes living in the refugee camps. Bill worked on putting together health services and Ann pro-vided literacy education. Ann's story was interesting and inspirational. She told of seeing the hand of God in unusual circumstances and of being in the midst of danger from war-ring tribes. Sometimes their work would be destroyed but they continually sought to live within the will of the Lord. As Bill and Ann return to service after a furlough, they will be sent to East Congo which suffers much of the same turmoil as Sudan. Please pray for Ann and Bill's safety.
GREAT HOUR OF SHARING
I am sure you have all heard of the new app Pokémon GO. If not what Pokémon has done was cre-ate a new app for your iPhone where people from all around the world can capture Pokémon using geo-location and mapping tech-nology that turns the everyday world into a poke-world. We ac-tually have a Pokémon gym right in our sanctuary where trainers from all over the world can train. I have been doing a little re-search on this game that 10 of 11 people worldwide are playing and think that the church could get some good pointers from the game. Sounds crazy but just give me a few moments to ex-plain.
What if I told you this challenge has been around since Jesus walked with us?
First of all unlike collecting rare Pokémon and receiving rewards for doing so, we the church are challenged to go and collect souls. Mark 16:15 Jesus says “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. In doing so the Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians, “He who plants and he who waters are one, and each will receive his wages according to his labor.” Pokémon GO has taken going outside to a whole new level. Players want to go out and will walk any distance to find that rare creature. We as the church need to do the same thing. We need to get out of the building, and our comfort zones and spend time around our cities and communities reaching out to souls that need to be planted. In doing this, we, the church, will start to store up real rewards in heaven!
Second, If you go to any Poké-
mon Go social media, you'll see that people all around the world are joining together to discuss the game. They are creating groups, discussing strategy, and getting to know people on a per-sonal level from all over. This game has actually brought a lot of people out of their shells, en-couraging them to meet up with other players in their city. When it comes to the Church, we must understand that joining together with other believers is very important to our spiritual growth and maturity. Whether it's a lunch date, small-group or even monthly event, doing life together is a major part of growing together as the body of Christ. Lastly, with the game Pokémon Go players are oblivious to what is going on around them in the real world. Players walk, drive, and run around with a screen in their face and focus on nothing else. Let me share with you my own personal example. So, I de-cided to download the game so I could see how the game worked. Kinz, Tigger, and I went on a Pokémon hunt that’s when I spotted one. I start screaming “over there, over there” and start running towards the Poké-mon. Beings my eyes were on the screen and I was only focused on catching a “mythical” crea-ture, I failed to notice Tigger running under my feet and down I went. Anyways, two scraped up knees, hand, elbow, a nice blood blister on my big toe, and a little less dignity I laid in the middle of the road. After a few choice words and groans I thought about why I was laying on the ground wounded. Parts of a verse in Hebrews came to mind, “Keep your eyes on Jesus!”
When I got home I looked at the rest of the verse. Hebrews 12:2 says “Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and fin-ished this race we're in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed - that exhilarating fin-ish in and with God - he could put up with anything along the way: cross, shame, whatever. And now he's there, in the place of honor, right alongside God.” Whoa! This verse says it all!
So let’s take the example from millions of people that are play-ing a game I believe is pulling us from reality and turning our eyes off Jesus. Instead of rac-ing around with a screen in your face and storing up rewards that are meaningless, lets get into the race Jesus Himself was in! Let’s stay focused on Him and not on things of the world. Let’s study how Jesus did it. Let’s work together and make plans to help those who are lost. Let’s keep each other accounta-ble. Let’s Church GO so we can be in a place of honor, right alongside the Awesome One True God!
Your sister in Christ,
Angela

POKEMON GO? WHAT ABOUT CHURCH GO?!
As graduation nears, some of our
students are moving on to the next
phase in their lives. To some, that
means higher education.
Two long-time members of our
church believed strongly in educa-
tion and established scholarships to
help our youth achieve their aca-
demic goals. The Ruby Palmerton
and Charles A. Whisler Memorial
Scholarships for Academic Excel-
lence have helped a number of
our students over the past 25
years. These two scholarships are
available again this year through
an application process. While
both of these scholarships give
preference to those students em-
barking on their first year of col-
lege, students enrolled as sopho-
mores, juniors, and seniors in col-
lege may also apply.
Application forms and the ac-
companying application require-
ment forms are available in the
church office during regular
business hours. Our Office
Manager, Angela Bilbrey, will
also e-mail them to those who
request an electronic deliv-
ery. A big “thank you” goes out
to the Palmerton and Whisler
families for keeping these schol-
arships as a vital piece in the
education of our young people.
We will be accepting applica-
tions until August 15.

FUN STURGIS RALLY FACTS
1. The rally was founded by Pappy Hoel and held by his motorcycle club, the Jackpine Gypsies, in 1938. The first rally was very
small and featured only one racing event.
2. It has been held every year since 1938 with the exception of two years during World War II. Setbacks like gasoline rationing
caused these off years.
3. Some find love amidst the craziness — marriages often take place at Sturgis during the rally! In
fact, the year 2000 also set the high record for marriage licenses issued: 197.
4. Bikers make a strong impact on the community during the rally: over $800 million comes in to Stur-
gis annually.
9. Classic Sturgis bike routes give participants opportunities to see some of the coolest sites the Mid-
west has to offer, including Mount Rushmore National Memorial, Custer State Park, Crazy Horse Me-
morial, Bear Butte State Park, Badlands National Park and Devil's Tower National Monument.

“To catch the reader's attention, place an interesting sentence or quote from the story here.”
Here we are, the end of the sum-mer. A time of rest and relaxation gone for both kids and adults. We tend to have more fun and relax more in the summer, for some it's the longer days, others nice weather, maybe vacation. No matter the reason it's a great time and here we are at the very end of another summer. Now we think of school starting, activities pick-ing up, colder weather, shorter days, and a busier schedule. We then begin to dream and hope for days of rest and relaxation again. Jesus tried to teach us something completely different, you see un-der the New Covenant we are to be tied to God every minute of everyday through the Holy Spirit. Paul tells us in his letter to the Philippians:
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, pre-sent your requests to God. And the peace of God, which trans-cends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. -Philippians 4:4-7 Here we read that God is our peace and relaxation, not weather, or time of the year, but learning how to relax and have peace in the hope we find in God. If we can lean on God in the midst of chaos, there is where we find true rest. Life is busy and very demanding and
hope should not lie in sum-mer, schedules, vacation, but in the hope that we are in God’s hands. He is tak-ing care of us, loving us, and His will is going to pre-vail. Blessings from Next Gen-eration Ministries, Nate Sales

Pray for a Cabin #4B
Pray for a Cabin The Camp Judson Camp Committee is asking that we pray for Cabin #4B. This cabin is named for Marcus & Leota Beebe. They came from New Your to the Dakota Territory and helped organ-ize churches in Aberdeen and Ipswich. They were active in banking circles and Marcus was a member of the state re-gents for education. The present cabin was rebuilt and ex-panded after the original cabin was lost in a fire in 1987.
