Sojourner Truth Library is happy
to announce that we will now open
library doors at 8 a.m., instead of
8:30 a.m., during the week. In our
effort to better serve students and
the campus community we have
extended hours to match the class
schedule currently in effect on
campus. Closing time and week-
end hours will remain the same.
The late night study room,
equipped with six computers and
many work tables continues to be
open until 3 a.m., after the library
closes, Sunday through Wednes-
day nights.
If you are not sure of library
hours, you can find them listed
daily, on the library homepage.

The Latest @ the Library Spring 2009 - 40th Anniversary of Sojourner Truth Library
SOJOURNER TRUTH L IBRARY SUNY NEW PALTZ
New Year Starting Out with an Improved STL18
STL 18, our primary space for library instruction for the past ten
years, has received a significant upgrade in technology and in ap-
pearance over the winter break. New desks with smaller foot-
prints, allowed for the addition of four PCs, bringing the total to 27. New widescreen monitors
and PCs also take up less space. There is a new, higher quality
projector and screen, as well as a more efficient instructor’s station
with an updated version of Net Op teaching software.
STL 18 is one of the busiest areas
of the library. All incoming first year students attend Composi-
tion or Honors English sessions in STL 18 in partial fulfillment
of the General Education infor-mation literacy competency. Librarian instructors collaborate
with faculty to teach nearly 150 classes in this room each semes-
ter.
Special thanks to Gary Oliver
from STL’s Computer Support team and Joe D’Agostino of IMS. If you haven’t already
done so, you may arrange for library instruction using the form
at: http://lib.newpaltz.edu/ assistance/faculty/instruct_
req.html .
Friends of the Library Spring Used Book Sale will take place April
23rd through May 1st. The library is accepting donations of gently
used books in all areas. You may bring small quantities of books to
the Checkout desk during library hours. If you have a large dona-
tion please contact Erin Barnard at 257-3679 to arrange a drop off.

Database Update ACLS Humanities E-book Project ACLS Humanities E-Book has recently added 509
books to its collection, bringing the total to 2,199.
The latest round adds reference works, such as the
AHA Guide to Historical Literature, the Catalogus
Translationum et Commentariorum and the indexes
from the American Folklore Society, and expands its
primary source materials with the Records of Civili-
zation and the Collected Writings of Walt Whitman.
Mental Measurements & Tests in Print now online
Produced by the Buros Institute at the University of
Nebraska, the Mental Measurements Yearbook
(MMY) provides users with a comprehensive guide
to over 2,000 contemporary testing instruments. Tests
in Print (TIP) serves as a comprehensive bibliogra-
phy to all known commercially available tests that are
currently in print in the English language.
New E-Reserve Procedures There will be some improvement to library reserve
procedures for the Spring 2009 semester. The process
for library course reserves has been largely manual.
Since electronic reserves was implemented back in
the 90’s, things have changed in the world of infor-
mation. Much more content is now digital and it
makes sense to obtain these documents in digital
form since they are intended for use as electronic
reserves. We’d like to introduce a few options that
can save everyone time.
• New online forms have been created to expedite
and simplify submission of electronic reserve re-
quests. It is not necessary to fill out forms manually.
• If you already have the reserve article/course mate-
rial in digital form, we request that you not print it to
have library staff in turn rescan it. Instead, use the
“electronic reserve submission form” that allows file
attachments and attach the digital file to the form.
• We would prefer that you submit digital content
rather than printed copy whenever possible. If your
reserve article is available through one of the Li-
brary’s licensed full-text databases, please obtain the
digital copy or link from that source instead of sub-
mitting a printed copy. If you would like assistance in
New SciFinder Scholar - Web version The SciFinder Scholar database is now available on
the web. No need to download the client version
from Blackboard anymore. Access to the client ver-
sion will end April 10, 2009. SciFinder Scholar con-
tains the Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) litera-
ture database containing over 28 million references
back to 1900. For more information:
http://lib.newpaltz.edu/getscifinder.html
the use of the databases to obtain digital copy, please
ask a librarian for help.
• You are welcome to add course content yourself to
Blackboard “Course Documents” in lieu of submis-
sion for E-Reserves. Academic Computing staff will
be happy to show you how to upload files to
“Course Documents” if you are unfamiliar with the
process.
• The Library has a user-friendly walk-up scanner in
the MediaSpace that you are welcome to use to scan
your course related material if you prefer to do this
yourself. There are easy instructions for using the
scanner and library staff would be happy to assist
you. You may easily upload digital files you create
this way to Blackboard “Course Documents” or sub-
mit via the Library electronic reserve online form.
• Links from Blackboard “Course Documents” to
relevant printed course material on traditional re-
serve will be added by library staff for all courses.
Students will have access to all their course-related
materials through Blackboard.
The new procedures are available at:
