By Tresa EricksonLighting is one of the most important
features of a home, indoors and out. It pro-vides illumination for tasks inside andkeeps burglars away outside. When cho-sen well, lighting can also enhance ahomes beauty. Here are some tips thenext time you change or add to your out-door lighting.
Outdoor lighting comes in many types.Post lights are mounted on a post, which is
usually located near the driveway. Walllights are mounted on walls near exteriordoorson each side of the garage door, for example. Ceiling mount lights aremounted on the ceiling of a porch or por-tico to illuminate the front entrance.Hanging lights serve the same purpose asceiling mount lights but make more of astatement in grand entrances and tallporches.
Make a list of the outdoor lights youneed and the amount you have to spend, and then get ready to shop. Outdoor lightscome in a variety of styles. Look for a stylethat complements the style of your home. While lanterns might work well for a
beach house, they may not suit your con-temporary home. You might need a sleek-er, cleaner style.
Finish is another aspect to consider.Again, look to your house as a guide. If
you have a lot of brass, brass fixtthe way to go. If you have a lotwork, look for black fixtures. If youlot of chrome, look for chrome fixt
Scale is vital. Too small or too lights can detract from the beautyhome. Look for appropriate sizedyou are looking for wall lights fostory home, for example, you shouon lights that are 18 to 24 inchesattention to the elements in the arethe lights will go. While you mighanging lights, having one in yoportico might not work. You doguests hitting their head on the ligtime they enter or exit your home.
Want to make your home realUpdate the outdoor lighting. Dyour needs and look for the right ish and scale to create a safe, beautiful home.
Safe, secure and beautiful

The Menomonee Falls PlanCommission voted against a proposal toconvert a residence at N88 N16954Main Street to an orthodontist office forthe second time in three months.
Property owner Tate Boho proposedthe change, which would have requiredthe village to change the land use portionof the village comprehensive plan for theproperty from Medium Density Residentialto Commercial Density Residential.
The commission rejected the requeston Dec. 2 following opposition by resi-dents at a public hearing. Boho requestedthe commission reconsider its decision andthe commission decided at its Jan. 6 meet-ing to hold a second hearing. Village
Trustee Steve Raymonds said Boho indi-cated he talked with neighbors about theirconcerns while two Plan Commission mem-bers werent at the first public hearing.
Resident Maureen Helm said she grewup in the residence and now resides near-by.
It sure would be nice if you guyswould keep that home. It was almost like a
park for us, she said.Resident Grant Lees said hestill hasthe same concerns at the last time. Leescited a potential decline in property val-ues for his property and a lack of privacyfrom a nearby commercial development.Lees said Boho tried to hold a meeting butthe meeting fell through.
Resident Henry Wick, speaking onbehalf of his parents, said the area wasresidential while commercial development

If youre selling a house, no onewants to buy a piece of property over-looking a business, Wick said. This is aresidential area. This is where people aregoing to buy homes, have families wheretheir kids are going to play. You dontwant a parking lot and business next door.It just does not fit the neighborhood.
Resident John Schulz also said he hadthe same concerns he had when it was firstproposed. He also noted there is a histori-cal value to the site, as it was home toGeorge Hoyt, a village president. He alsoraised concerns about traffic and noisecoming from the development.
We dont need to take this propertyand tear it down, Schulz said.
In response to the neighbors concerns,Boho said he purchased the property 10years ago. In response to neighbors con-cerns to property value, Boho said heresearched properties in the village thathad been recently rezoned from residen-tial to commercial and how that impactedvalues of adjacent residential properties. He compared those to residential proper-
ties in the middle of the village that wereabout the same size around one-thirdof an acre. Boho said that in all cases, val-ues for all the properties have increasedbetween 52 and 58 percent over the pastdecade.
It doesnt matter where they were,Boho said.
Boho addressed a previous issue, thatthe house may be connected to the
Underground Railroad througslaves escaped the south to before the Civil War. Boho noteddence was constructed in 1869.
Its just not true, he said claim.
Boho said an ort hodontic denwas a low impact business andnew office would have the samefootprint as the residence.
