as a part of an ac-

our ongoing UOI.

Unit of Inquiry:
Kindergarten has started their third Unit of Inquiry, ’Let’s Celebrate’ on the Trans-
disciplinary theme, ‘How we express ourselves’. The central Idea for this is :
‘People recognize important events through celebrations and traditions.’ For this
the students will be inquiring, finding out and sorting information related to the
unit.
This week students of Kindergarten:
Were welcomed to a decorated classroom which further lead to an inquiry
and discussion on the topic of Cele-
bration. They inquired on the reason
of decorating the classroom and
guessed the event that was cele-
brated (the first day of school after
winter vacations). Their inputs were
recorded on a mind map.
Made connections to the discussion
held on the previous day and re-
called different events, they have liked to celebrate. Further they also illus-
trated their favourite celebration.
Were shown a variety of audio-visuals of different festivals/occasions.
Discussed and shared their views on the term ‘Celebrations’. Their inputs
were recorded on a KWL chart
(what we Know, what we Want to
know and what we have Learnt).
Enjoyed a puppet show where Win-
nie the Pooh and Piglet (the pup-
pets) came to Kindergarten. They
helped piglet make a list of things
that he would need to organize a
birth-
day
party
for
Pooh.
Literacy:
Recalled the 42 sounds of letters and diagraphs
in English, through a Jolly Phonics audio-visual.
Revised word families and sight words through
an activity on reading, identifying and matching
the rhyming words.
Were assessed on their ability to recall, se-
quence and comprehend story, ‘The Toy’s
Party’ through a variety of comprehension ac-
tivities.
Enjoyed shared and guided reading sessions
where they listened to stories, ‘Rainbow Fish’,
‘Little Luigi’, ‘Big Bear’s Cake’, ‘The Toy’s Party’,
‘Nirali Poshak’ (in Hindi), ‘Lalu Aur Peelu’ (in Hindi) and ‘Kissan Aur Saanp’ (in Hindi).
Numeracy:
Practised writing and sorting numbers up to 50
as what comes before, after and in between.
Recalled and wrote numbers in words.
Were introduced to ordinal, through a variety
of manipulatives and worksheets.
Hindi:
For Standard level in Hindi-
Discussed their New year’s celebra-
tions.
Recalled the names of different celebra-
tions.
Found out about the importance of Re-
public Day celebrations (as the event
approaches).
Recalled all the Svara and Vyanjan let-
ters and sounds covered in the Term-1,
through the following activities:
Identifying and reading the let-
ters.
Writing practise to reinforce the formation, direction and spacing of letters.
Matching the svara with the picture related.
For Abinitio level in Hindi-
Were introduced to svara and words beginning with
it.
Enjoyed colouring pictures of objects beginning with
the svara.
Practised writing the letter to reinforce the formation,
direction and spacing.
Were introduced to the names of colours.
