Castle Provincial Park and Castle Wildland Provincial Park Updated September 2018Tear Sheet
OHVs are permitted on designated summer OHV trails in Castle Provincial Park and Castle Wildland Park, as indicated on the trail map and on park signage. Please be respectful when using trails, be cautious of non-motorized trail users, and stay clear of wildlife.
Changes for 2018 at a Glance
The trails available for summer recreational OHV use have been reduced from 2017.
Here’s what you need to know “at a glance” for 2018:• There are no longer any summer OHV trails south of the
Carbondale River.• All previously designated summer OHV trails north of the
Carbondale River are open for use with two exceptions; the Lynx Creek Headwaters Trail and its connector, which is closed for fish habitat restoration (as previously planned) and; the far west portion of the York Creek Trail.
• Use of OHVs on undesignated trails, non-OHV trails, or roads is strictly prohibited.
Know the Rules
In accordance with provincial regulation:
• Every person within the Castle Parks shall comply with the lawful orders and instructions of a Conservation Officer.
• OHV users must stay on designated trails (trails are marked with a summer trail sign)
• Every OHV operating in the Castle Parks must have: » Ability to produce valid registration and insurance, » Operators and passengers must wear approved
helmets as required, » License plate properly affixed in a visible location at the
front or rear of the OHV, » Tail lamp on the vehicle rear capable of emitting a red
light visible from at least 60 metres (185 feet), » At least one white front headlamp of sufficient intensity
to reveal a person, another vehicle or a thing that is at least 60 metres ahead (185 feet),
» Proper exhaust muffler with spark arrester, » Operators under 14 must be supervised by an adult.
To operate an OHV in the Castle Parks, people from another jurisdiction must:
• Carry proof of residency,• Follow the rules, regarding registration of the vehicle and
the display of license plates, that are required by their home jurisdiction,
• Produce valid proof of insurance,• If you have been in Alberta for more than 30 days, all
Alberta requirements apply.
Highway Vehicles
All vehicles (e.g. cars, trucks, Jeeps, SUVs) registered for highway uses are only allowed on highways and secondary highways that access the Provincial Park and Wildland Provincial Park. Highway vehicles must be parked in designated parking areas, or safely off to the side of the road when visitors are taking part in any recreational activity. Highway vehicles are not permitted on trails.
