THE ORANGE COUNTY MUSTANG CLUB In 1987 a group of individuals, who appreciated the beauty and performance of the Ford Mustang, joined together to
form the Orange County Mustang Club. Their purpose was to promote the restoration, preservation and enjoyment of
the Ford Mustang. To perpetuate this goal members, pay early dues, meet monthly, promote car shows, hold social
activities, take cruises, and attend parades and other activities to foster their love for the Ford Mustang. Any person who
owns or appreciates the Ford Mustang, no matter what model or year, is welcome to join, Ownership is not obligatory,
but enthusiasm is.

A MESSAGE FROM YOUR PRESIDENT
As I stated in last month’s newsletter, the one thing I really am focused on during
my presidency is the rewriting of our very outdated and ill-written bylaws. To that
end, Larry Rhinehart and myself have spent countless hours since December
drafting, comparing, and then re-drafting proposals. These drafts have been shared
with your elected board members at two board meetings and a special board
meeting devoted only to bylaws revision. As I previously pointed out, the current
bylaws, which we are mandated to follow, call for only the five elected board
members (President, V.P., Treasurer, Secretary, and Membership Chairperson) to be
able to vote on bylaws amendments, and the approval for a change must be unanimous.
I am pleased to announce that the board has unanimously agreed to the proposed changes.
However, this is a tentative vote. Although not required, we feel that we should listen to any
constructive criticism or other ideas before we take a final vote at the end of April. To accomplish
that timeline, we are posting beginning this evening (March 13) on the “Members Only” portion of our
website the entire 20 pages of the finalized proposed new bylaws. Members have until the April 10
General Meeting to communicate concerns, objections, questions, or constructive ideas with any
elected Board member. Your remarks will be shared at the Board meeting of April 24; a final vote
may occur as early as the April 24 meeting depending on the extent and nature of the feedback. Do
not ask that this be put to the membership for a vote; the current bylaws must be followed and
clearly defines the procedure as set forth above.
I will now summarize the major changes and review them at the March general meeting.
Unlike now, the members will have authority to amend the bylaws by a two-thirds vote. We will every
year elect a President-Elect, Treasurer, Secretary, Membership Director, and six to 8 Directors-at-
Large. All have a vote on the Board. The terms last one year, except that the President-Elect
becomes the President automatically the following year, and then the Immediate Past President the
next year. So, whoever is elected President -Elect is committing to being on the Board for three years.
There is a Nominating Committee which will seek out and nominate members to the Board positions
at the November general meeting; however, any member can still be nominated from the floor at
the November or December meeting. If a position is contested between 2 or more members, there is
a written election procedure with an Election Committee to conduct the elections. Lastly, since we
have no President-Elect at this time, we will have a transition election this November- December
which gets the cycle going for the future. In other words, we will elect a 2020 President and also a
President-Elect in December, and I will move into the Immediate Past President position at the end of
my term.
The Board unanimously feels that the new bylaws will provide the structure to get more
members involved with their OCMC, and will help to generate the enthusiasm that a diversity of
thought and ideas brings to any organization. The new bylaws will give complete control of the club
to you, the members.

Cruisin’ For A Cure Car Show
Lots of charity car shows provide critical funding for many good causes, but few have the kind of
immediate personal impact that the Cruisin' For A Cure Car Show delivers each year in Costa Mesa,
California. This was the 19th year for this annual event, held at the Orange County Fairgrounds in
Southern California. Debbie Baker, the founder of the show, started it in honor of her husband, who
was diagnosed prostate cancer and passed in 2007 and a way to save our men from prostate
cancer by providing free screening. As Debbie says, “what better way to get our men tested then
have them come to where all their buddies are with their cars”.
The show is billed as “The World’s Largest One-Day Charity Car Show Event.” The event provides free
prostate cancer screenings. This year alone, the show saw just over 907 men take advantage of this
free testing and over 228 with elevated PSA’s. To date, we have heard from 52 of these men who
indeed did have prostate cancer and had successful surgeries and are cancer free. These cancer
survivors are celebrated at each show with a group photo and the proud men sporting their blue
survivor shirts.
One of the unique aspects of the “Cruisin’ For A Cure” show is it is just that – it’s a cruise. With the
3,000-plus cars parked around the Orange County Fairgrounds, there is an actual 1½-mile cruise
route that travels around the fairgrounds which was held on September 22, 2018, the parade/cruise
route kicks off at 9 a.m., with show founder Debbie Baker leading the way on top of a fire truck, with
several historic fire trucks right behind her in the lead truck. There is a constant parade of cars that
make the cruise all the way around the fairgrounds and 4 buildings filled with cars as well.
The quality of the cars at the event ranged from some nice daily drivers to high-end collectibles.
Legendary Barry Meguiar even had his two Ford GT’s on display, as well as his 1901 Trinity horseless
carriage. The Meguiar’s Hangar, a building whose display vehicles are by invitation only; only 60 cars
are invited into the hangar building each year. The OCMC also had several cars in the Meguiar’s
Hangar Reunion area as well. Members who were parked in the Hangar / Reunion areas included
Paul Montesano, Tom Baker (Survivor), Larry Rhinehart, Craig Kamansky, Kathy Garner, Jenny
McGrath, Rich Miller (Survivor), Gary Garner, Jim Johnson, Terri Johnson, Dennis McGrath, Cindy
Brenneman and Tom Brenneman. Ford, once again, was well represented with lots of Mustangs, hot
rods and a ray of many other manufacturers too.
It perhaps should be no surprise that Ford also dominated the awards. Two of the OCMC members
that took home awards were Kathy Garner’s ’32 Ford Cabriolet and Jenny McGrath’s 1970 Mach 1
Mustang.
This show has become a destination event, with vehicles coming in from all over the country. Not only
is it now a bucket-list show to attend, but don’t forget that all of the registration fees go to Prostate
Cancer Research. The 2019 show is going to be held on Saturday September 28th, 2019 which
coincides with September being National Prostate Cancer Awareness month. For more information,

WELCOME NEW MEMBERS… Steve Eichenberget and his wife, Jeanette McKeown, are
fortunate to have several beautiful cars but none is more
special than their 2017 Shelby GT – 350. A former nuclear
submarine technician in the Navy, we enjoyed spending
time with them on the Temecula Cruise.
Steve purchased their Shelby near his home on the east
coast so now that he’s relocating to San Clemente he drove
his beautiful GT-350 across country. Steve and Jeanette ,
welcome to the OCMC and to sunny Southern California.
At one time Don Ash owned a Boss 302 Mustang then in
2017 the Ford dealership sent him a special invitation to
Laguna Seca Raceway to test drive a Shelby GT-350. Yep,
that’s all it took to get him into a Shelby of his own.
Now retired, after over 40 years of working in the Ford Parts
Department, Don loves hanging out at Orange County car
events. But soon he’ll have a dilemma...which car will he
drive? His awesome 2017 Shelby GT-350 or the recently
ordered and nearly completed 2019 Mustang COBRA.

LEGO Creator Unveils Classic 1960s Ford Mustang Model
Lego has just announced the newest addition to its Creator vehicle series: a 1967 Ford Mustang. This new set,
available to purchase on March 1 for $149.99, comes with 1,471 pieces and a few surprises that improve its
playability.
The base car you build is a gorgeous first-generation 'Stang in dark blue with white racing stripes that look spot-
on for what we'd expect to see on a Shelby, but curiously, this kit features no such Shelby branding. It features
period correct details recreated in brick form, such as a hood scoop, the famous Mustang logo in the grille,
and five-spoke wheels on real rubber tires. The interior, trunk, and engine bay are all reproduced in typical Lego
detail, and the steering wheel even turns the front wheels.
In addition to the base car, though, Lego will include a number of customizations. The supercharger is the
coolest, which replaces the hood scoop and adds untold imaginary horsepower to the V8 engine below. There
are also pieces for side-exit exhaust pipes, a rear ducktail spoiler, a chin spoiler, and a nitrous oxide tank
located in the trunk. To top it all off, there are risers to adjust the lift of the rear axle and give the Mustang a
more menacing stance. So whether you want an accurate representation of a classic Mustang or an over-the-
top muscle car monster to play with, this set should satisfy. Like other Creator vehicle sets before it, this Mustang
is large, measuring 13 inches long, 5 inches wide, and 3 inches tall.

Meet OCMC Member Jim Morrison Born into a devout Ford family, Jim Morrison’s father had several Fords including a Ford
Model T and 1964 ½ Mustang but Jim’s first car was a beat-up ol’ Ford Falcon. Thu the
years he had other Fords so when his daughter wanted a car, he got her a Ford, a 1966
Ford Mustang coupe.
Over the next few years Jim made several safety modifications and a few minor repairs.
When his daughter moved out, Jim offered to take care of her Mustang for her
(wink,wink.)
Now he could make some “real” changes. He started by installing a new 302 engine
followed by anything else that could give him that racecar rush. At every Irwindale
Speedway club event he wait until they finished the “No peeling out…” spiel, then Jim
would always the first one to put the pedal to the metal.
There are few people as active as Jim. He loves any type of racing – NASCAR, Drags…,
he loves motorcycles, fishing and camping but music is his passion. He collects various
types of music. You’ll often find him D.J.ing for a band named Tres Hombres and
dancing while they perform. Another passion is playing softball. Currently he’s
recovering from an injury but he’s looking forward to going back to the Senior
SoftBall League in the next few weeks. And, lastly, he loves Mustang car clubs.
In addition to being a member of the Orange County Mustang Club, he is
Vice President of the South Bay Mustang Owners Club in Torrance
Married for 36 years, he and his wife Lisa have a son and 4 daughters.
As a believer in the “happy wife/happy life” theory he recently
bought her the car of her dreams – a 1965 Mustang Coupe.
He’s refreshing/updating it now to make it ready for the
Classic Auto Show. Looking forward to seeing this beautiful
pony up close.

On Sunday, February 17th, the Annual Outlaw
Daytona 500 party took place. Cold and Rainy
weather made no difference, as a huge crowd of
"Non Wusses" gathered with their fellow Hot Rodders
to watch "The Great American Race !" I thought
about having a contest where every time the TV
announcers say "Great American Race !" we have to
take a shot of Fireball....but they don't make that
much Fireball. Mustangs and other Rods were parked
up and down the street....and those that come early
get Preferred parking in my driveway....and in front of
my driveway (fortunately the police don't cruise my
street very often).
Was glad to see new President Craig Kamansky and
VP, Paul "Jersey Paulie" Montesano attending their
first party. Thanks for the Gar, Paulie ! Hope you guys
had a good time. The Pizza arrived early and often.
People also brought some great "real food"; thank
you Jim Morrison for the big bowl of delicious home
made Jambalaya, that lasted about ten minutes.
Jeff and Jeannie Weiss tried to add some class to the
gathering by bringing a sculptured fruit platter, it was
great !
We all enjoyed an exciting race, that in the last ten
laps resembled a fairly expensive demolition
derby. Making it through the carnage to finish first
was the "Toyota" of Denny Hamlin. Better luck to the
Fords next year.
Next up is my Indy 500 party, May 26th. Later ! Written and hosted by Jeff Grant

Del Austin was finally feeling better after one
surgical procedure and two weeks in intensive care
at the Loma Linda Veterans Hospital. Now all he
had to do was take medication intravenously for
four weeks, 24/7 for 4 long weeks!
So they moved Del to the VA assisted living
wing. The first week was long and boring. Then
came Sunday, the 17th. He remembers: "I knew
my wife, Jan, and the Thompsons were coming and
I was looking forward to seeing them. Jan, Kathryn
and Ivan moved the curtain back when they came
into my room. They were followed by Jeff and
Jeannie Weiss and then Donna and Andy Alves
and then Natalie and John Mamola and Tom and
Teri Sulser and Craig Kamansky, our OCMC
President!!!!
I was so overwhelmed and from the look in their
eyes, I think they thought I was going to have a
heart attack. My happiness soon turned to
gratefulness for these amazing friends I found in the
Orange County Mustang Club."
As told to Teri Sulser
Mike Spradling owned and drove trucks most of his life
but the childhood memories of riding in his uncle’s
1967 Mustang we’re always in the back of his mind.
Fast forward years later, he was finally ready to start
shopping for his own Mustang. The first dealership had
several choices from Eco to GT PLUS one very, very
special car...a 2019 Dark Highland Green BULLITT! It
was love at first sight and he loves driving it every
single day.
