Why Tengkawang? 1〇Suitable area for palm oil plantation has already been exploited almost completely or permitted for exploitation, we can not stop its big stream.
〇Where tengkawang trees still remain in;1. transportation of oil palm fruit is difficult because of its geographical features.2. Far from palm oil factory, bad access condition.3. Because of soil fertility, farmers glow more profitable crops than oil palm, little incentive for oil palm.
Why Tengkawang? 2• But there are many farmers who plant oil palm in own farm to
get income → still going on & on• We want to save tengkawang before converted to oil palm• There are some Dayak people who will not convert their
tembawang (community forest including tengkawang) if their tengkawang nut can be sold in good price.
• Once converted to oil palm plantation, it takes very long years to come back to forest.
• When forest being disappeared, Dayak culture will disappear at the same time.

Tengakwang for Dayak〇Harvesting work of tengkawang nuts ‒when to start, whom is included, how to share the results among all participants including lady & children- had been decided conventionally but quite transparent and fair. But current generation does not know its tradition, does not utilize traditional wisdom.〇T. Harvesting work make people reconfirm the connection in the community, glow up awareness of mutual help in the community.〇The forest where tengkawang glow in, holds huge variety of plants and animals. Dayak can live in peace by blessing of nature even cash income is not so much. 〇Tengkawang is a symbol of traditional forest =chaos of life, an object for attachment, awe and respect to rich variety of living features.
