• Many examples of even the most famous Greek sculptures, are known only from Roman Imperial or Hellenistic "copies."

• The strengths of Roman sculpture are in portraiture, , they were less concerned with the ideal than the Greeks or Egyptians, and produced many very characterful works, and in narrative relief scenes.

painting• The Romans painted directly

on the walls of their rooms, and also on portable panels.

• wall paintings, we can even see imitations of portable paintings , these are paintings of paintings. Domestic interiors were claustrophobic, windowless and dark, so the Romans used paintings as decoration to visually open up and lighten their living spaces.

• A wall would be prepared with the application of 1-3 coats of mortar (lime and sand) followed with 1-3 coats of lime mixed with powdered marble, colored pigments were applied while the wall was still damp. Sometimes tempera and liquid wax were added after the wall had dried.
