LEFT-side Communion Rail RIGHT-side Communion Rail

THE NEW COMMUNION RAILS were delayed from October, but have arrived at last.
Practical: Please start from the right-hand end of either rail (as above) thus, at the right-side Communion Rail, start from the far end by the large Marian Shrine (close to the altars of St Joseph and Our Lady of Sorrows). At the left-side rail, start from the nearest end (NOT the far end by the Sacristy door). Do not leave gaps (and also kneel or stand in the centre, to fill the space). Please move from the Communion Rail as soon as you’ve received the Sacred Host, so as not to delay others who are waiting to replace you. An increasing number of people choose to kneel to receive Our Lord in Holy Communion. To kneel or stand (as stated in our Sunday Bulletins and a recent homily) is entirely the choice of the individual Communicant. Those choosing to receive the Precious Blood will find a Deacon or Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion with a Chalice (at Sunday Masses) slightly further than before, in front of the Lady Chapel and St Joseph’s altar. Spiritual: The choice of kneeling for Holy Communion gives opportunity for a few moments of stillness before receiving Our Lord, and harmonises our body language with our spiritual disposition of showing deep devotion to Jesus who humbles Himself to become our Food. Perhaps try this, at least during Christmas-tide. With the Shepherds, the Wise Men, and many others in the Gospel, we “fall at His feet, and do Him homage”.
Padre Pio - on behaviour in Church: “In order to avoid irreverence and disrespect in God’s House, in Church - which the Divine Master calls the House of Prayer, I exhort you in the Lord to practice the following: Enter the Church in silence and with great respect, considering yourself unworthy to appear before the Lord’s Majesty. Then take Holy Water and make the Sign of the Cross carefully and slowly. As soon as you are before God in the Blessed Sacrament, devoutly genuflect. Once you have found your place, kneel down and give the tribute of your presence and devotion to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Confide all your needs to Him, along with those of others. Speak to Him with filial abandonment. When assisting at Holy Mass and other sacred functions, be very composed when standing, kneeling, and sitting, and carry out every religious act with the greatest devotion. Practice modesty of the eyes; not turning to look here and there to see who is coming and going. Do not laugh, out of reverence for this Holy Place, and also out of respect for those are near you. Do not to speak to anybody, except when charity or serious reasons make it necessary. Pronounce the words of the prayers distinctly, observe the pauses well and never hurry. In short, behave in such a way that all present are edified by it and, through you, are drawn to glorify and love the Heavenly Father.” From a Letter written by Padre Pio in 1915. Correspondence Volume III.
CATHOLIC CHURCH SHOP: If you don’t wish to have a full Nativity set (complete with shed) then consider a smaller Nativity scene figurine to adorn your home, depicting Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus. We have several beautiful inexpensive figurines to buy for a loved one or for your own residence. If shopping for a Christian Christmas gift, look no further than our shop. Buying from us helps support the work of the Oratory, at the same time knowing that you will not be able to buy cheaper elsewhere. Come also for Real Coffee and home-made cake. Open: on Sunday after 10.30am Solemn Mass, at the rear of the Hall. Also weekday mornings 9am until 12 noon, via the Parish Office in Post Office Road where Sharon or Alba will be pleased to help you.
THE DECEMBER MONTHLY NEWSLETTER lists pre-Christmas Confessions time, and all the Christmas Mass times. Take an extra copy for those whom you might bring to Mass here over Christmas.
St Philip’s Maxim: We must give ourself altogether to God, as He gave Himself totally to us.
CHRISTMAS OFFERINGS: The annual special envelopes are for your personal gift to the Oratory Fathers and Brothers (and our Permanent Deacon) and supports the work of the Bournemouth Oratory.
