Pope Francis announced that he plans to visit the Philippines in January next year.

In an Associated Press report, the Roman Pontiff told reporters aboard the papal plane that he will also visit Sri Lanka in the same month for two days before he heads to the Philippines.

Details of his visit, however, have not yet been bared. Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle had said he is “confident” that the pope will visit the country in 2015, earlier than the expected 2016 trip to Cebu City for an international Catholic gathering.

CBCP secretary has not yet received any official communication from the Vatican or Runciature,” Mejia said, in response to media reports citing Pope Francis’ announcement.

ZamPen under fishing banlAurA mAe t. mAlAte

Zamobanga City, Zamboanga Sibugay, The Bureau and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) will implement a five-month ban against fishng for sardine fish, Tamban, in the waters of Zamboanga peninsula, Sulu , Basilan and Tawi-Tawi starting in November, a senior official said.

BFAR Regional Director Peding MUnap said the ban, which was intended to allow the Tamban to breed and multiply during its spawning season, will cover most of western Mindanao and parts of the Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao.

“The spawning season last from four to five months,” Munap said.

Target of the ban is commercial fishing, which feed 12 canning factories in the town and cities such Dipolog, Dapitan, Sindangan and Ipil. About 30,000 workers will be affected by the ban.

Small fisherman is exempted from the ban. Officials apparently believe their operation will not adversely affect the Tamban population.

Munap said BFAR has sought the assistance of the Philippine Navy, Coast Guard and Maritime Police to help enforce the ban through intensified sea patrols in the spawning grounds.

BFAR Director Asis Perez, who was in Zamboanga last week and discussed the issue with the National Fisheries Regional Council, said a similar ban in 2012 led to a national increase in the Tamban catch to 90,000 metric tons, which was 30 percent higher than the catch in the previous year.

As a result, we can see improvement of the city’s cleanliness. Everyone actively

supported the said ordinance. Everyone holds responsible of his garbage. Having a clean city is a big step towards progress.

Boy and girl scouts of the Philippines, YES-O Club and the Supreme Pupil Government actively supported the Oplan Undas 2014 The said school organizations helped the community clean the tombs of their late relatives by collecting trash , empty bottles and plastics wrappers around the cemetery. They also segregated plastics bottles from papers.

The Oplan Undas is a good practice wherein children were taught indirectly the act of helping. At young age they are exposed on community service and the value of cleanliness. Thus, learn giving up their leisure time to help out the community.

Poverty Hinders EducationPoverty Affect Children’s

Education?Children growing up in poverty

are less likely to do well at school. This can put them at a disadvantage in later life which in turn, can affect their children.

Children’s and parent’s attitudes, aspirations and behavior play an influencing children’s attainment in school. It shows rising aspirations per se is unlikely to improve attainment, but good quality parental involvement programs can do so.

The program also looks at the other social, educational, and economic factors that affect learning and explores the role of education as a route out of poverty.

The hope that by understanding these relationship, we can influence policies and practice that wil break the link between and low attainment.

Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school-aged children that in values a real or perceived power imbalance. Cyber bullying is defined as bullying that takes place using electronic technology. Verbal abuse occurs when a person is threatened by words or action.

About 42 percent of students who are cyber bullied are attacked verbally more than once. About 58 percent of kids and teens have reported something mean being brought up online. Female’s probability of being is a physical fight with a bully is 26 percent as to men being physical fight with a bully is 46 percent.

We usually say things meaning to hurt someone, or to feel better about ourselves. We may say something, and it will be too late to take it back. These people who are victims of bullying, over half of them never tell someone about the abuse they receive.

For instance, there was a girl who moved from a big city to a small town. She didn’t want to feel like an outsider; she just wanted a friend. The first week she was in her new school, she was invited to sleepover. She decided to go thinking she would at least make a couple friends. She went to the sleepover and was having fun but, she was the first one to fall asleep.

When she awake, there was lip gloss all over her faces and chalk dye in her hair. She was very angry, but didn’t let it show. When the sleepover ended and she went home she just decided to tell her mom she had fun instead of telling her mother what had happened. Little did she know, that would be just the beginning of a terrible journey.

As grade school continued, the bullies got worse. As it turns out, the girls at the sleepover may not be the best choice of friends.

People who are bullied believe there is no way out. However, there is a way out of the situation every time. Those who are bullied just need a special friend who will be there through thick and thin.

The next time there is bullying don’t be a bystander. Stand up to the bully. Do that is right.

Rainy Days in DCEESPhilippines is one of the countries who

belongs to the typhoon belt. It’s been our natural experience having rainy days because of its topographical location. For this year we had encountered 17 typhoons and still counting. At Dapitan City Experimental Elementary School, rainy days are very hard, especially the physical location of the Marcus type building which is the lower part of the school. When rain pours down, water came flashing on the ground and later filled the classrooms. Ms. Zenaida D. Beldua, MT-2, one of our teachers, transferred her class on the stage to have her daily classes with her pupils. “It is a great burden in our part, during rainy days, having my class here

on stage, you cannot expect everybody would listen for they have plenty of things to see around,” teacher Zenaida said.

Concerning about this issue, this could be easily resolved if everyone would help, from the government, parents and the community to elevate the classroom grounds to resolve this problem.

5JUNE- MARCH 2015OPINION

An Eye for ImprovementThe school has a lot of improvements this

school year. First, the school currently constructed

3-unit comfort rooms. Second, the classroom elevation program, both through the effort of Provincial Governor, Hon. Roberto Y. Uy. Third, the school ground elevation funded from the collection of King and Queen of Christmas 2013, to help resolve our problem during rainy days. Fourth, the extension of perimeter fence specifically at the back portion, to minimize thieves who ransacks classrooms destroying instructional materials and taking anything that caught their attention. Finally, the perimeter fence re-painting was realized through the help

of the supportive parents, to make the school pleasing to our learners.

All these will sure give us a chance to help mold and educate learners and give comfort they need in the learning process.

We from the DCEES staff and pupils, our heartfelt gratitude to all those who have contributed to these improvements.

Homework: Is it helpful or harmful?

Homework is a concept that everyone knows about. When they hear it, some feel disgusted while others stand tall. Homework is a life changer for all students. It can help them prosper, or it can hinder them from achieving academic success. Is homework worth it? Is it worth the stress and anxiety most students have to feel accomplished? No, no it’s not.

Students have lives outside of their school day and most of that life is being flooded by homework. Sports, friends, and other non-

stressful activities are things that students look forward to, not academics. But when there’s too much homework, they are prevented from doing their extra-curricular activities. Many students stay up all hours of the night trying to finish their homework, only to fall asleep and not pay attention during the actual school day. They feel pressured to be the best and to eventually get into the top colleges. School and its workload are becoming extremely demanding. Students should not feel obligated to be perfectionists and should know that life will continue without that feeling of being perfect.

Any way you look at it, homework is eating away at the lives of kids and is steering their thoughts down a mistaken path of perfectionism.

POINT Of VIEw

Dear Editor,

I am a Grade VI pupil, who belongs to the severely wasted group of pupils in this school. An action was done to eliminate and o lessen the number of SW pupils. Hot meals are served every school days good for 120 days. Sad to say only few are chosen to benefit to the said program, I am one of those unlucky who did not received the mouth-watering and nutritious foods prepared by our H.E. teacher.

I believe, I also have the right and privilege to enjoy such program.

Dear Andrea Nina,

Your issue reached our concerns, we too believed that each of you must enjoy such unique program.

According to our division office, few are chosen to benefit this program so that it will fit its financial budget, but there is a motion from every school requesting that the next year’s budget will be extended, so plenty will be benefited.

Very truly yours,Andrea Nina Descutido

21st CenturyTeacher Education

For as long as there have been institutions dedicated to the preparation of new teacher, the endeavor has come in for criticism. Teacher education has long struggled both to professionalize and to fully integrate itself into mainstream academia. At the core of this struggle was a perception that there was no body of specialized knowledge for teaching that justified specialized training.

Over the last few decades, criticism of teacher preparation has shifted away from a largely academic debate to the troubling performance of the students. Shocked by teacher education’s refusal to train teachers to use scientifically based reading methods.

Almost all teacher educators acknowledge that the field has deep problems, but their concerns has seldom been about the issues raised by external critics such as lack of selectivity, an imbalance content and pedagogy, or the lack of value delivered. These differences aren’t always recognized because the insider critiques often sound a lot like the external critiques. In reality, insiders are more concerned about the chaos in the field.

Studying teacher education explains to disconnect between what teacher educators believe is the right way to prepare a new teacher and the unhappy K-12 schools on the receiving end of the effort. It happens that the job of teacher educators is not to train the next generation of teachers but to prepare them.

Filipino culture. Through good times and bad times, the fiesta must go on. Dapitan is not an ordinary city. It is incomparable in terms of beauty, tranquility, historical significance and most of all far more distinct from the rest of the modern cities in the Philippines.

It’s picturesque hills and beaches keep on magnetizing travelers to stay here and hangout for days or week.

My Teacher, My HeroIn life, people may come and go, some

Who did efforts for one to gain knowledge, the one who has been my guide for so many years, the one who scolds and corrects one when I am doing wrong, the one who has been there as I face to reach the stepping stones in my life. The one who appreciates my efforts, the one who criticizes and suggests to improve my work, the one who always there to feed me a bit-

21st Century LearnersLearners have changed radically.

Today’s learners are no longer the people our educational system was designed to reach.

Our learners today are molded by their environment. This twenty-first century environment is one which is electronic and digital. It I filled with various forms of technology, including cellular phones, computers, hand held gaming devices and the internet. As such students are twenty-first century learners-digital learners. They, in essence, understand the world through the use of varying computing devices and other forms of technology.

There are many differences seen in the twenty-first century learner. One such change is that today’s students learn differently. Today’s students think and process information fundamentally differently from their predecessors different kinds of experiences lead to different brain structure.

Trick or Treating:An Experience that never grows old

Dressed in a cheesy costume, you run up to a house an orange, pumpkin shaped bucket in your hand.”Trick-or-treat!”you say, and before you know it, your orange, pumpkin shaped bucket is full of candy that will leave you on a sugar high until thanksgiving.

It is Halloween, The holiday is full of spooks and fun, and people celebrate in different ways. Some like to go to parties, some vandalize homes, some go to haunted houses, and some people, including teenagers, enjoy going out to neighborhoods during the evening in hopes of getting treats. Even so, there’s a large number of people who don’t understand why a high school

or college student would ever want to spend their Halloween trick-or-treating. I say, why not?

That said, people complain that teens and young adults that go trick-or-treating are immature. Some say they’re too old, that they should go to a party or a haunted house. There are even people who refuse to give candy to those who look like they could be in 8th grade. Even worse, there are some cities in the U.S. that ban all teenagers from the activity.

Trick-or-treating is fun and free way for teenagers celebrate Halloween. It’s safer than going to a party and getting drunk, and for some, it’s more fun than a haunted house. Plus, who doesn’t like free candy?

Teenagers are people too, and they like to have fun. Teenagers are already being pushed to grow up too fast, and they are too stressed out; what with a long list of homework, standardized tests, scholarship essays, and college applications that they must finish. Halloween gives them a chance to have a good time and not have to worry about things. Halloween is holiday that should be enjoyed by all; not banned.

Pope Francis Mercy and Compassion

At the heart of the new covenant is over realization that, in Christ, we are embraced by God’s mercy and compassion, and that our lives must bear witness to his love for all our brothers and sisters.

full of information that I might use someday, She’s one who saves me and comfort me from this mysterious and unfair life, where everyone should be essentially be given the same experience of education. The person who is willing to give everything for our own good, and yet, we are too lazy, too weary to them.

After all, they never get tired, they never give up and they never stop to fill us with the knowledge and when we are going to fall us with the knowledge and

when we are going to fall, they are always there to reach our hand and pull us back and teach us how to pick up those broken pieces. Time may fly so fast, years might change, but never I forget my teacher, my hero.

Beginning a catechesis on the church shortly before breaking for summer, Pope Francis continued this line of reflection with those gathered in the Vatican’s Paul VI Hall.

“Prepared for in the Old Testament and established by Christ in the fullness of time, the church in a new people founded on a new covenant sealed with blood of Jesus,” he said.

The newness brought by Jesus “does not set aside what went before, but brings it to complete.” The Roman Pontiff noted. The importance of the figure of John the Baptist in scripture is also” very significant since it prepare the people to receive the Lord.” He said.

My Beloved TeacherPerson that I admire is my beloved teacher

who had taught me through my school life. My teacher’s energetic quality always refreshes the atmosphere in our classroom. Her enthusiasm and thoughtfulness still warmed my heart to this day, We had great fun each day due to her ingenuity to grasp what we wanted. She is the one that I most admire she is with a special personality with so much vigor that sometimes I can’t believe, that one person can have so much energy, intelligence and ideas beside being so good and humane.

All in one she is exceptionally humane and natural. She is the kind of person whom it is pleasant to everyone that you will say never a dull moment with Ma’am………..

DOST mosquito traps reduce dengue riskA cup, stick of wood and pellets

dropped into water make a simple mosquito trap that can help prevent dengue.

Distribution of the ovicidal/larvicidal (OL) mosquito traps to school nationwide started last year to prevent the spread of the deadly mosquito-born disease.

The target is to have one OL mosquito

trap per classroom, said Science and Technology Secretary Mario Montejo. The DOST has distributed 435,000 units nationwide.

The cup and solution is a safe, chemical-free alternative protection against dengue, said Crystal Oleveros DOST science and research specialist.

Researchers shut down a SARS cloaking system: Finding could lead to SARS, MERS vaccinesA Purdue University-led research team has

figured out how to disable a part of the SARS virus responsible for hiding it from the immune system; a critical step in developing a vaccine against the deadly disease.

The findings also have potential applications in the creation of vaccines against other coronaviruses, including MERS, said Andres Mesecar, who led the research.

“This is a first step toward creating a weakened and safe virus for use in attenuated live vaccine,” said Mesecar, Purdue’s Walter Professor of biological sciences and chemistry. “This also cold serve as molecular roadmap

for performing similar studies on other coronaviruses like MERS, because the enzyme appers to be common to all viruses within this family.”

Mesecar also is a part of a research team studying and creating potential treatment compounds for the Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus, or MERS, that recently arrived in the United States. There is currently no treatment or vaccine for the virus, which has a estimate fatality rate 30 persent, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Because MERS and SARS are relate, insight into one could provide a shortcut to finding a treatment or developing a vaccine for the other.

Mesecar and his team capture the molecular structure of a key SARS enzyme, papain-like protease, and revealed how it strips a hostcell of the protein ubiquitin and ISG15, which are involved in triggering an immune response.

A paper detailing the National Institutes of Health and National Institute of Allergy nd Infectous Diseases-founded work was published in PLOS Pathogens on May 22 and in available online.

5 Technology that disrupt climate changeDisruption is by now a commonplace

occurrence in the technology world. It means a new technology or business, to be disrupted may mean that they can no longer complete in the same way with new contenders that are using this disruption. We haven’t had any major disruption in the fight against climate change.Yes we are making great strides, but for the most part our win have been incremental, solar panels getting a little more efficient every year, wind turbines deployed more widely those kinds of changes.

Transport make up to 15% of manmade CO2 emissions and it’s just personal cars we’re talking about, freight trucks and buses are up to 18% of which pollution. Although we’ve seen incremental changes in the way we consume energy when we drive, thanks to electric cars like the Tesla , a radical disruption in the transport space would look very different. The first step in that direction, may be a fleet of small electric

autonomous cars like the ones unveiled by Google.

The diminutive autos are the opposite of high-performance, a small battery-powered electric motor pushes the cars to a top speed of 40 kilometers an hour. If you are car-enthusiast and you’re shaking your head at this, keep in mind that there is also no steering wheel. These cars are all about getting from point A to point B, without all of the car culture trappings that you would expect. In fact it’s unlikely that anyone would own these cars, instead they would be called up, on demand through your smart phone whenever you need a ride.

On the freight side, you may have seen Amazon’s recent move into “drone delivery vehicles.” Deliveries to the home may soon be accomplished by flying or driving autonomous vehicles bringing you exactly what you need when you want it. Roads and increasingly the

airspace over our heads may be seen more as a circulatory system moving people and goods around in a coordinated, automated fashion. Motor fans may find that they only get to practice their pastime on closed tracks, much in the same way that horse riders are not allowed to gallop down freeways.

Spotting the Gas Dwarfs“Gas dwarfs,” planets roughly

between Earth and Neptune in size, were detected by Lars A. Buchhave of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics and his colleagues. Buchhave and colleagues examined data from more than 600 planets orbiting more than 400 stars, classifying them by size. They saw an expected dividing line at about 3.9 times Earth’s size: heavier planets were the Jupiter like gas giant; lighter worlds were presumably rocky Earth-like planets.

But, to their surprise, they saw another division in this group, at about 1.7 times Earth’s size. The smaller words were indeed rockier. Earth-like a new class of planet the gas dwarf, with a thick atmosphere of hydrogen and helium but a solid rocky core. Andrew Mesecar, Purdue’s Malther Professor of Cancer

Structural Biology works in his lab.

Today everyone is as busy s an ant, Time is very important. Things are set specifically for a particular valuable purpose. People had less time for everything.

Instant food came in. This kind of foods offer hazzle-free preparing and coking. It is so affordable, and within reach of everyone’s budget. No cook. Heat and serve. Just add hot water. These are just few words to read that are found in their packaging labels. This is the first thing that they are promoting about their products. But wait, what other things these instant foods offered to us? Instant foods had one ingredient most common to all of them, the MSG, monosodium glutamate. Studies shows that taking plenty of his may lead an individual to some chronic disease like heart disease, hypertension, stroke, kidney damaged, diabetes, and cancer.

“To keep healthy, stay away from instant foods”, some words parents and teachers should always remind to the young ones, who are the easy targets of the manufacturers of these foods. Introduce healthy and nutritious foods for a better healthy body.

Sanofi starts dengue vaccineproduction for 2015 launch

Sanofi Pasteur is poised to produce the first validation batches of their dengue vaccine, at he company’s state-of-the-art production center near Lyon, France.

According to Antoine Quin, manager at the site in Neuville-sur-Saone, the plant has a design capacity of 100 million doses of the vaccine, tetravalent CYD-TDV, annually. Starting around 2015, Sanofi Pasteur expects to manufacture one billion doses over the following decade.

Investing 300 million euros in building and staffing the plant was a substantial gamble for Sanofi, said Guilaume Leroy, dengue vaccine head. The Lyon facility got the green light in 2009, when only Phase II data was available. Although promising this was far from definitive.

Confidence was boosted in September 2011 when researchers based in France and Thailand published data in The lancet from a trial which recruited more than 4,000 Thai schoolchildren. This showed CYD-TDV to be effective against three of the four types of dengue virus currently circulating. Phase III trials are now underway in Asia and Latin America with results expect next year.

The complete production cycle for the tetravalent vaccine takes two years. If the Phase III results fulfill Sanofi’s hopes, the company will be poised to launch in 2015 and hit the ground running to meet the massive global demand for dengue vaccine. It will also be comfortably ahead of competitors with pipeline candidates, such as GlaxoSmithKline, Merck & Co and

Takeda/Inviragen.Dengue is a potentially fatal viral disease.

Worldwide, at least 2.5 billion people are at risk of infection, 975 million of whom live in urban areas in tropical and subtropical countries in Southeast Asia, the Pacific and the Americas. Each year, more than 50 million people suffer dengue, of whom more than 500,000 require hospital treatment for dengue haemorrhagic fever, a serious form of this mosguito-transmitted infection.

Earth, make it a better placeSome people believe that the Earth is

being harmed by human activity. Others feel that human activity makes a better place to live. Nowadays, global warming is the most important issue in every country a large number of people think that any human activities cause damage to the Earth. However many people believe that the Earth is better than ever due to human activities.

On the other hand, some human activities make the Earth to change for the worse, For instance, using air conditioning, driving, and deforestation for furniture bring about toxic pollution to the air. Thos lead to climate change in the North Pole which the glacier is melted by effect of higher temperature from human activities. If people still do the bad activities, the Earth will be harmed and become to an unsolvable issue.

On the other hand, although some activities of human make trouble to the world, many activities help the world to be a better place.

For example, many people around the world enjoy growing the plants and reduce to using paper and focus on recycle paper and plastic increasingly. It decreases air pollution and make temperature to go down. Moreover, some people like to ride bicycle which decrease the global warming too. In the find analysis, human activities have both of benefits and drawbacks which depend on conscious of people that will choose to do which one. Human activities can made the Earth to be a better place to live of people think carefully before doing anything.

Two New Classes of Exoplanets DiscoveredThe universe, we’re learning, is a crowded

place which made it all the more appropriate that the latest findings about exoplanets were delivered today to a crowded press conference

at the American Astronomical Society’s 24th meeting. The most intriguing discoveries provide evidence for two new types of planets that don’t exist in our solar system gas dwarfs and mega-Earth.These two classes mix up the general rule of thumb that plants are either small and rocky or large and gassy-adding their mirror images, small gassy and large-rocky combinations respectively.

In so doing, findings overturn scientists’ assumptions about how a planet’s size predicts its composition, and thus about where we might find habitable worlds.

DCEES holds Taekwondo Summer ClinicPhilippine Taekwondo

Association of Dipolog and Dapitan City Chapter held a Taekwondo Summer Clinic at Dapitan City Experimental Elementary School last summer from April 16 to May 24, 2014.

The clinic was designed to give a taste of what Taekwondo is like. The clinic was offered for all young children who are willing to learn the sport.

During the clinic the young boys and girls were taught how to wear their uniform, and being introduced

to the Korean language and culture, the history of Taekwondo and the reasons behind different parts of the sports. The progress from the white belt through to the green belt. Once you are awarded with the green belt, then one chooses another to move to the black belt ranking.

The summer clinic was ended with a tournament held in Dipolog City Sports Complex last May 24, 2014, where Dapitan City delegates did their best during the tournament.A sumptuous lunch was also served during the tournament.

GREAT PUNCH:Nicholas Walter(L) blocking Donaire’s vaunted left hook.

Martinez, the sole Olympian of the Philippines in 2014, was the fifth to perform in a field of 29 other skaters from 21 nations.

The Pinoy teen was described in the Olympic broadcast annotations from Sochiasa “charismatic performer” who showed “good flexibility” and “great performance skill for such a young man”. The skating competition was broadcast live in the Philippines on TV5.

still appears to have plenty of quality fight headed his way in the near future.

The 31-year-old the best could against someone as rough and tough as Walters but didn’t have any answers one the “Axe Man” settled into his strategy of walking the smaller man down.

Walters was just too big for Donaire. His power kept Donaire from being able to let his hands go without significant repercussions, and his ability to block Donaire’s vaunted left hook made the outcome of the fight almost certain from the start.

Donaire has lost two of his last four fights now, and never his two wins leave something to be desired.

Good SportsmanshipSportsmanship is good etiquette

practiced in sport and is requisite not only…. Just as winning r e q u i r e s work in practice, sportsmanship.

Sportsmanship is a key part of all athletics because it brings out peoples’ character and leaves an honest impression on the spectators. Sportsmanship is how you act and respond the situations and off the playing field both in your favor and against your team. It’s about playing with determination and being a gentlemen or lady about it afterwards. In order to talk about sportsmanship, one needs to know what it is first. Most people feel that it’s just saying “good game” when that match is complete or not getting mad over calls and outcomes of events. But to me, it means a lot more than just that. It’s about playing hard against your opponent but being accepting of the result afterwards. it’s about not acting out or taking your anger out while on the field but more prominently as my coach says “ Playing with class”. Most importantly though it’s about always trying to play and perform to your full potential and never giving up, even when games are going in your favor or you know that you’re going to lose. Sportsmanship also has an effect towards other player on the field and the people watching. If someone displays poor sportsmanship throughout the game, the other team will.

Sportsmanship is an important quality in athletics because it shows your character. Most importantly, good sportsmanship shows that you play your best and never give up in good times or bad. It can be shown in many ways, shapes and forms including reactions, attitude and all around effect. Sportsmanship shows how devoted you truly and are playing the game.

The Sporting Spirit

Sportsmanship means the right spirit in which man should take part in any sport, or play any game. Analyzing “the sporting spirit”, we find its component pairs are fair play and no favour, enthusiasms for the game, generosity to opponents, pluck, and the ability to take defeat well.

It goes without saying that a real sports-man will never dream of cheating in a game, or of taking any unfair advantage of his oppo-nent. He will always “play fair” and honorably keep the rules of the game. And he will not expect any concessions from his opponent. he wants keen competition and fair play.

He takes the game seriously. He has no pa-tience with the man who plays at playing, and who does not care whether he wins or losses. He is keen to win, and plays with all his energy to beat his opponent. There is nothing luke-warm about his style of play and he expects his opponents to be as earnest as himself.

He will play a losing game with pluck and patience. An un sportsman-like player-like player will often get into a temper when he is being defeated, and throw the game away in a pet, like a spoilt child. But the true sportsman keeps in a good hum our even when he is los-ing, and shows the greater pluck the more the odds are against him.

The final test of a real sportsman is wheth-er he can take a defeat well. if when defeated, he can sincerely congratulate his triumphant opponent, and shows no signs of humiliation or vexation, then he has indeed the true sport-ing spirit.

Much of the public expects Manny Pacquiao to have an easy time in his next fight. The welterweight is a heavy favorite over Chris Algieri in their Nov. 22 bout, and Floyd Mayweather’s recent post-fight interview included questions about taking on Pacquiao, even though Pacman has another op-ponent in two months.

Algieri not among the biggest names in the sport, but he told Inter-national Business Times that he fully expects to beat Pacquiao in China. The 35-year-old Filipino icon is well aware of the challenges that Algieri presents, and he knows a win is no guarantee,

“I’m not taking Algieri lightly,” Pacquiao said, “He’s taller than me and moves around the ring with savvy. That’s why I started my training early.

Pacquiao is close to four inches shorter than the 5’10 Algieri, and he has a reach that is six inches shorter than his opponent. The champ isn’t accustomed to such tall fighter, taking on the likes of Timothy Bradley, Juan Manuel Marquez, and Brandon Rios in the last three years. None of them stand taller than 5’8.
