Indiana official will return flag to Mississippi
INDIANOPOLIS, IND. (UPI) — One of Mississippi’s Civil War battle flags will be re- turned to the state Friday as
Indiana marks the 100th An- niversary of the Civil War.
Gov. Matthew Welsh is scheduled to return state bat- tle flags to Mississippi, Tennes- see and Arkansas this week. He will be accompanied by an Indiana Natipnal Guard dele- gation.
Friday he will be at Vicks- burg, where a Mississippi Flag captured at Vicksburg July 4, 1863 will be returned to Gov. Ross Barnett.
The flags were found stored in a wooden box in the indi- ana World War memorial re-
cently during house-cleaning. They apparently had been in the box since 1910. Flags of Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, North and South Carolina, al- so found in the box, will be returned later..
