We love our new Church …

Assistive Listening Device is now available here at the Church of Saint Pius XWe now have 6 Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs) to help parishioners who are hard of hearing so that they may listen comfortably to all that is said during the Mass. Approach any of our priests before Mass to request one of these user-friendly Assistive Listening Devices.

Holy CommunionDuring Mass, the priest will bring the Eucharist first to the elderly and those who have difficulty walking. Please raise your hand to signal the priest at the beginning of Communion if you wish to receive from your pew.

During Communion, to maintain the sense of reverence and worship, we ask that you come up to the altar by the center aisle, forming two lines, and go back to your seats by the side aisles. We ask that you approach the altar, row by row, beginning with the first pew.

Please help us keep it clean! Please remember not to bring food or chew gum in the church. Stanley, our maintenance man, has already found two bubble gum spots on the carpet and on the new wood panels at the back of the church. Also, please try to give your younger children a snack before mass begins, or wait until hospitality after the 10:30 Mass so we can avoid crumbs in the pews and on the floor. Thank you!

Upon Exit After MassAfter Mass, in courtesy to fellow parishioners, our Ushers request that you take the bulletin with you, properly return the Missalette book in the rack and put the kneelers in an upright position.

We encourage everyone to use the main door to enter and exit the church. The side doors (near the statue of Mary) are only for emergency exit.

Saint Pius has a new ministry called Pastoral Care. Our mission is to visit with the home bound of the parish and bring them our prayers, companionship, food and the Sacrament of Communion. If you or a loved one are home bound and would like a ride to and from Holy Mass, or would like a meal brought to you please call the rectory at (914) 725-2755 and speak with Elizabeth or Father Michael and tell us your needs. Pastoral Care is a team of parishioners coordinated by Debra Lupardo who have volunteered to reach out to our community in need.

Treasures from Our Tradition

There’s a different pace to a summer Sunday, especially on those days when we dream of air conditioning and wave any available paper to stir the air. Yet we persist in gathering, even with so many breaks from the usual routines. We distance ourselves not only from routines, but from schedules and familiar well-worn paths. These are playful days and contemplative days. We see long-lost friends and visit almost-forgotten places. We have more leisure than any people before in the history of the world, and we need it because our lives are so care-worn and tiring. More of us walk barefoot and look up at the stars or dip our toes in the lake or sea, sing around campfires, read novels on the beach, and eat comfort food with our fingers. We see how beautiful life can be, and are more aware than usual of how God is always breaking in with signs of love.

In Genesis today, Abraham and Sarah practice hospitality to their visitors, who turn out to be God dropping in. During the summer months, God practices hospitality in return, inviting us into a season of celebration. Keeping Sunday holy is a good habit to cultivate in these days when our spirits are especially receptive to God’s deep desire for us to know divine love.

THE NEW SAINT PIUS X CHURCH – PHASE IIBringing Our Vision to Life.

Phase II Highlights On June 26, 2013 the Scarsdale Planning Board approved our application for Phase II to renovate the kindergarten classroom and create a new Church entrance with a tower, canopy, chapel and office. On July 22, we will present the New Entrance Plans before the Scarsdale Architectural Board.

v A new, clearly identified Church entrance directly off the parking lot with a covered drop off area will be built. v A new Narthex, a dedicated Church vestibule, will be built through the current kindergarten classroom to the right of the current school entrance. v The Narthex will contain:

• a new Meditation Chapel to the Blessed Mother (The existing stained glass window of the Pieta that was in the vestibule of the old Church structure and the wooden statutes of Mary, Joseph and the Holy Family will be placed inside the Chapel. The Chapel will also serve as a Bridal waiting area.),

• the statue of St. Pius X currently in the school lobby along with his vestments and skullcap,

• a gathering place for receptions, including the reception after the Family Mass, with kitchen facilities,

• a dedicated Memorial Wall that shows the history of the Church of St. Pius X and an honor role of current and former donors,

• a new Religious Education office to accommodate our growing program,

• two new handicap-accessible bathrooms, • storage rooms to house donations dropped

off for food pantries, Midnight Run and other outreach programs run throughout the year,

• a new announcement and communication board,

• a designated wall for bulletin holders, and • a new closet for collection baskets.

v A new outdoor Meditation Garden with seating will be created in the space currently occupied by the parking circle facing Palmer Avenue. The blacktop will be removed and replaced with lawn and beautiful plantings. The Meditation Garden will contain a life-size marble crucifix with marble statues of Mary and Saint John the Beloved standing beneath it as well as marble statues

of Saints Anthony, Therese and Francis.v The Stations of the Cross from the old Church will be housed in individual structures along our property for a walking devotional to simulate a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. v If we have a donor, we will replace the refurbished organ with a pipe organ.
